KotoR 3: Ideas, Suggestions, Discussion, Part 25
Jediphile replied to SteveThaiBinh's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
1. Then it will not happen, since it would require far too much work for the programmers to develop all those progressive "trees" of plot it would require. Look at the two games so far - you can take LS or DS or whatever route you wish on each world, but the net outcome is effectively always the same. The difference lies only in how you get there. Why is that? Because the overall plot needs to remain unchanged by your choices. Revan can go LS or DS at the end of KotOR, but he still has to go to the Starforge and fight his way through hordes of dark jedi and droids and then kick Malak's rear... The major difference are the cutscenes. 2. No. But I can slice you open with my lightsaber, take them, and then say thank you 3. Qui tacet consentire videtur. 4. Ah, but then you're talking about the descendants of the Sith Empire, not the Sith species, since they have long since been interbred with the human dark jedi to such a degree that none are left. In that case we would agree. I think the true Sith might be descendants of the Sith Empire, which both Kreia and Sion refer to, though Sion puts its existence way to long into the past. I've always noted with interest that Kreia mentions the second Great Schism in relation to the Jedi Civil War - the formation of the Sith Empire was the direct result of the second Great Schism. 5. Eh, the race on the unkown planet was the Rakata. A force-sensitive race like Miraluka's who used the dark side to build their technology, their most famous invention being the Star Forge. True Sith is another race... Sith is a race.... thats the name of the race... Sith. Search Rakata on Wookieepedia. 1. Agreed... 2. Huh? I thought the level caps were the same in both games... I haven't played one as much though. Whats level caps? 3. Not sure how trhis could work but yeah, should happen. 4. Mentioned earlier, so agreed I guess. 5. Ofc 6. Yes please :D 7. yeah. We don't know who the true Sith are. We just know who they are not. They are not the Sith species - they have long since vanished - descendants of the Sith Empire would be a different matter, but they were all human/sith halfbreeds by the time their empire fell. And the true Sith are NOT the rakata. It's true the rakata were powerful DS users and went to many worlds, including Korriban, but they were never on Malachor V, the mysteries of which were founded by the true Sith. 1. I had no trouble killing her off on the highest difficulty levels. She's not a pushover, no. You have approach her with care. But she still went down like she was supposed to. Especially easy if you're DS and have taken care of her floating lightsabers - just spam the Force Crush power... 2. KotOR1 level caps at 20, while TSL does it 50, meaning your character cannot be above level 20 combined (like level 5 scout + level 15 jedi guardian). TSL allows up to fifty total levels, which completely redundant - unless you exploit bugs and opportunities in the game, you'll usually reach the endgame by level 27-28. I tried to push my character upwards, but by the time I reached level 43 I just couldn't bother anymore. 3. It can. Valid plots have been suggested in this topic several times already. 4. Still - canon should be optional in the games. Always. 5. Trouble is how to pull that off dramatically. 6. Obviously. 7. Hah, I wish... -
Actually, a real Sith would pay the money, say thank you, then slice the beggar in two and take his money. No, on second thought, he would slice the beggar in two and taken his money, and then say thank you. You might just as well argue that they only put the effect in the game and that powers like Force Shield are used constantly in the movies, only we don't see them. There is no visible signs of Obi-Wan using Cure on Luke in Ep. IV, yet one moment he is on the ground knocked cold by sand people and the second he recovers as Ben bends over above him. For example, in the Star Ward D20 RPG, which KotOR is based on, force powers are skills, not granted powers, and some are sublte. Battlemind, for example, gives the user a bonus to his attacks, while Force Defense gives him a bonus to saves against force attacks, making it similar to Force Resistance in the computer games. I think we can assume such powers are used in the movies, yet we never see visible evidence of them, only the end effect. If Windu had a recording, then why didn't he just leave and present that to the senate instead of trying to kill his "prisoner"? Policemen are not allowed to execute murderers - that's for the court to decide. Policemen may kill, but they are permitted to do so only in obvious defense of their own life or that of others. There's an important distinction there. And when Windu persists to proceed to use lethal force, he oversteps the limits of the jedi because he tries to effect political change according to his own wishes in a system he is sworn to protect. If you want political change, then you join the next election - you don't sneak up from behind with a dagger. Now, of course Palpatine is evil and manipulative. He calculated this would happen. He needed it too. He thought the jedi would not be able to resist trying to remove him by force, which he could then later use to infer that they attempted a political coup d'etat to take power in the republic, effectively throwing liberty and democracy away. And he was right too. And Windu also violates the jedi code - the jedi don't kill their prisoners. That's exactly what he tried to do. The above sentence about Obi-Wan makes no sense to me. Yes, he was less skilled in combat than Darth Maul, but certainly not less skilled than Vader - Obi-Wan trained Vader and years if not decades of experience before that. Indeed, Obi-Wan won the duel on Mustafar exactly because he had greater experience with which to match Anakin's greater power.

Where do I get my personal lightsaber crystal?
Jediphile replied to russr's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
The solari crystal is LS only, but unlike the qixoni, it is found only randomly, meaning you could play many times without getting it. But you can use the qixoni even if you're LS. You just need the <FullName> crystal from the Kinrath cave on Dantooine. It is whatever alignment you are if you let Kreia 'adjust' it, so it is LS if you're LS. And if you put a LS only crystal in a lightsaber along with a DS only crystal, their alignment restrictions will neutralize each other and you can use the saber, even if you're LS. but do you get the benefits of both then personal LS crystal and the Qixoni one? Yes. They are all cumulative. -

1. I don't understand. You say you have to start over, but then point to difference in level. If you mean for Revan and exile to start over, then no. Just plain no. Having either or both of them become amnesic and lose all their power AGAIN would strain credibility beyond belief. It would just be too stupid an example of game mechanic. Besides, just because a new character begins at level one, that doesn't cause a problem if you don't encounter Revan and/or Exile until later in the game when you have achieved an at least comparable level. I'd make them both the new character's level +2 and then either not let the character meet them until he/she was level 18 or else not make them playable and thus their level immaterial. 1a. Revan's gender and alignment is optional in TSL, so you can choose the one you had in K1. I hate the idea of a Revan/exile relationship, but it doesn't matter because it won't happen, since a good portion of the fanbase would reject a fixed gender/alignment for either character and not buy the game, and LA know that. For example, I will always consider the exile male no matter what anyone tells me, and a good number of female players insist Revan is a woman. Add in the DS-fans, and you'll have a split fanbase that you can sell the only to a portion of then moment you force gender. Heck, even the KotOR comic books have steered clear of the gender/alignment can of worms for Revan. So no, no Revan/exile romance. Period. *Influence lost* 2. No, I don't. What, do you think you're a jedi, waving your hand around like that? 3. Gray jedi, yes. D20... Well, we're stuck with it now whether it sucks or rocks 4. Oh, not that again. First, by the time of the Great Hyperspace War, which is more than a millennium before the KotOR games, the Sith species was practically extinct through the inbreeding with the dark jedi exiled by the republic and then jedi after the Hundred Years Darkness. Second, apart from the rakata having been on Korriban, which is just as true for Dantooine, Tatooine and Manaan, there is no evidence of there being any connection. Third, they are NOT particularly attuned to the force. They have no great force powers or ancient dark force heritage. The Sith Empire was founded when the Sith species were conquered by and then began learning the dark side secrets FROM the dark jedi exiled from the republic by the jedi. The Sith were the slaves of the dark jedi rulers, but they interbred so much that by the time of Ragnos, Sadow and Kressh, there was only a mixed species left with some being more or less human - Sadow being closer to humans than most. The Massassi do not count as this "oh so ancient uber-Sith" either because they were both the warrior class of the Sith species and created through Sith Alchemy, which - again - has it's origin with the exiled dark jedi and not the Sith species. We don't know who the true Sith are, though they could be descendants of the Sith Empire. 5. No. -
Freedon Nadd and Marka Ragnos would beg to differ... And not politely, either.

1. I would want a new pc. You cannot start the game at level 20, because building the character from zero to hero is one of the fun parts of the game. And having Revan or the exile conveniently suffer amnesia and/or lose all their power AGAIN would suck royally. 1a. Revan/exile romance Besides, how can you argue respect for alignment for those characters and then deny choice of gender? 2. I don't care. I don't care about hoods either. And we don't need no stinking customizable lightsaber hilts either. Nice, yes. Important, no. 3. I'd favor a skill based system, but I guess KotOR is stuck on rigid, inflexible d20 mechanics 4. The jury is out on who the true Sith are. I still think it's the remnants or descendants of the old Sith Empire of Ragnos/Sadow/Kressh, but people have said Obsidian intended the true Sith to be totally unrelated to them. Those people haven't provided sources to support that claim, though, so... the jury is still out. 5. Thanks. Influence gained -

Nah, I don't think so. There are some truly manipulative, underhanded options along the way, but nowhere near the Kreia/Palpatine level. I don't think "thuggish" would apply - as I would agree it mostly did in K1 (except in the ending, where Revan and Bastila manipulated Vandar and the other jedi) - but others have disagreed with me, so you might be disappointed. A very special DS power called Force Crush. I think it's a game-hoser, because you can kill any one enemy with it. Basically it creates a huge hand that grabs the enemy and squeezes him/her/it for one round for 250 or so points of damage, no save, no chance to resist. Which means that if you have enough force points by then (which is more than likely), you can kill any one enemy by simply spamming the button to use it, even Sion or Traya. Still, lots of DS players seem to like it.

Yep, I called it Must that 3-0 was a lot more than I expected. Too bad for the russians, who seemed to just lose faith as Spain scored. A lot people I've talked to thought Russia would be deadly, but while they played a great match against Holland, I think the dutch are a great team on the offense with a so-so defense, which is what Russia exploited. And naturally Spain had read their game and taken their precautions - Arshavin was totally absent in this game, kept in check by the spanish defense. The russians have played a great tournament, and I have no doubt they'll be a major force in euro and world championships for the next decade. The spanish goals were marvellous, though. Especially the last one was high class and showed the vast ability of Iniesta to read the game - with one pass he totally destroyed the russian defense. Now, Spain vs. Germany in the final. Well, considering who made it to the semi-finals, it's the final I wanted. And Spain will own Germany!
-
Wow! 0-0 between Spain and Russia by half time, but very exciting. Actually, compared to the Germany vs. Turkey yesterday, this is a primary example of why you cannot measure football by the goals scored. Yesterday it was 1-1 by half-time, but the game was just terrible. Today the first 45 minutes flew by with excellent play from both sides, but no goals. But I think Spain will win. The russians seem to think they could just go in and continue the game against Holland, but of course Spain has watched and won't be caught off guard, which is the chief reason why Arshavin (Russia's no. 10) has been very anonymous in the first half. Pavlyuchenko is still deadly in his raids against the spanish goal, though - what an excellent forward. Torres has been pretty dangerous too, though. A shame Villa had to be taken out. No bookings, though. Surprising, because it's a game where neither side pull their punches, and there have been some nasty fouls already. If the ref doesn't put his foot down hard from the beginning of the second half, this could become a truly ugly, nasty game, considering what is at stake.

Where do I get my personal lightsaber crystal?
Jediphile replied to russr's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Sure I use it. It can be "leveled up" by Kreia eight times or so IIRC, and at the highest is is without doubt the most powerful crystal in the game. I always use it along with the Qixoni in one lightsaber (I always use dual sabers, because you can put crystals in both of them granting obscene buffs to the exile), though sometimes I put it in the short lightsaber, as they primarily buff up the stats, then put whatever other good crystals I can get or buy into the other sword. -
Yea that will never happen vader and palpatine were close but no dice The Light cannot survive without the dark and vise versa Yeah. It's just vain hope for the sith that they'll ever succeed in destroying the jedi and rule the republic, which we all know, of course, that they never will.

I didn't think stealth ships so much as republic ships. The true Sith are far away in the unknown regions, so they have little or no specific information about the goings-on in the Republic. I mean, since they allegedly staged the Mandalorian Wars, they do know something about the republic, but it would not be very specific or current information. Besides, their ships would be easily identifiable as alien. So they'd seek out more nefarious groups working within or near the republic, like Czerka or the Hutts, to acquire both information about current events in the republic as well as ships that don't arouse suspicion. My original idea was to find sith ships on both worlds that had information stored, only it was either missing bits (on Myrkr) or it was encrypted (on Sleheyron), so you'd need both to use the incomplete but unencrypted information to decode the complete but encrypted information. Once did that having completed both worlds, you could pinpoint the location of Nihilus2's fleet. But I see no fault with your logic. It's just as viable if not more so. Good thing you don't know where I live... Actually, I did let Nihilus2 destroy one world in my plot, and it needed to happen for the plot to begin, since the jedi would sense it and think "uh-oh - Nihilus is back somehow - we must leave Coruscant before what happened on Katarr happens here". For some reason I always envisioned that doomed world to be Vjun, perhaps because I like the idea that the world where Vader later has his castle is arid because Nihilus devastated it. Don't know much about its history, though, so it might not even be possible. But I can still like the idea, right -

Repeatedly, I might add. Which means every time you level up. -
Three blackouts during a Euro semi-final? Scandal! Heads will roll and should! Well, at least Turkey is out... They played euphoria and didn't seem to bring much else. Hence I didn't want them to make it to the finals. That said, the germans managed to severely underwhelm today. Was Ballack even in this game? And where was the rock-hard german defense? I suspect the german newspapers will not be fun reading tomorrow... I mean, I can accept that it's to Turkey's credit that they managed to take out Ballack, but he also let them in that he didn't move around a lot making it difficult for them. The germans were strangely off-standing. Again, I must say, it's a shame either Spain or Russia must leave the tournament tomorrow - they both deserve to reach the final far more than Turkey or Germany did. And frankly, whoever wins tomorrow, I hope they also beat the germans in the final.

1. Just because Malak or Sion are blunt instruments lusting for power, and Nihilus too in his own way, doesn't mean that all sith are. Revan's measure of control is not unique. Palpatine is about as wary, and Kreia is far more so than both of them. Besides, it's not like lightsiders don't resort to DS powers. And it's not a problem as such, if they do. The lies in whether they get tempted by the power. As Belaya puts in in KotOR1, "You should be proud of your accomplishment... but never forget that you still have much to learn. As your power grows you will constantly face temptations to slip to the dark side. This is the eternal struggle of the Jedi." Using DS powers is not a problem as such. The problem is that they usually give power to those who use it, and they then become tempted by that power. 2. Actually, that the jedi would both sentence and punish the man is part of their problem, as it makes them both judge and jury as well as the policeman. That's too much power for anyone. And who are the jedi responsible to in the end? Only other jedi. Nice little vicious circle, isn't it? The jedi did better in the prequel movies, because they acted as policemen, but did not meddle in politics. But of course, Palpatine skillfully used that against them, too... 3. Anakin is blinded by power BECAUSE he has a high medi-chlorian count and so is powerful with the force. He has all that power thrown on him, and that makes it far more difficult for him to resist the temptation to use it. After all, if you have power to stop the suffering of the innocent, but are told you can't, because it will corrupt you, then what would you do? I see Revan in a similar manner. I don't see him as the ultimate uber-jedi/sith like some fanboys do, but I do see him as one of the more potent jedi/sith of his time, and with all that power, he could not bear to just sit and watch the innocent die on the Outer Rim while the jedi order did nothing. He knew he could make a difference, and that pushed him to act. That gave him power, which eventually corrupted him. Yes, Anakin is overconfident, but that's not all there was to it IMHO. 4. I disagree. The fight was very evenly matched. Sure, Sidious has more posturing and "you cannot win"-comments. But come, the guy is THE sith lord - of course he has to brag. He just destroyed the jedi order and fooled the republic into becoming HIS empire. Surely that gives him bragging rights And it was evenly matched until Yoda lost his touch and lost the fight. 5. Hmm... "Qui tacet consentire videtur."

KotoR 3: Ideas, Suggestions, Discussion, Part 25
Jediphile replied to SteveThaiBinh's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I would like to see those planets in K3, so I just invented a reason to go there, arguing that they got ships and supplies from the Hutts on Sleheyron and used the Myrkr as a staging ground with the support of Czerka who had a hidden base of operations there. Hence there would be clues to where they came from on both worlds. But you're right that they could easily be replaced or cut from the plot. Because Revan wants to rule those worlds, not destroy them. "A true victory is to make your enemy realise he was wrong to oppose you in the first place." Revan is hungry for power, and he is confident enough that he thinks he can get there without having to shred part of the empire he hopes to rule in order to get to sit on the throne. He might have "Nihilus" destroy one or two worlds just to demonstrate their power, though, mirroring the threat of the Death Star in the original movie. But sure, cutting back on the power of "Nihilus" would not harm the plot. -
Converting Others to Jedi?
Jediphile replied to Jedi Master Bumfluff's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Most of the NPCs will respond to conversation alone. Heck, you can max influence with Visas in one conversation... Mira isn't that much harder, really. Some, like Kreia, almost always require you take DS points to build influence, but can still be done almost entirely through conversation. Bao-Dur is the tough one there, especially if you play DS, because there are very few places in the game, where you can build influence with him through simply conversation. Generally he gains influence only if he is in the party to see you perform acts that give you LS points, though only in some specific cases. If you're really interested, I advice finding a walkthru or influence guide, where all these are listed. For example, check here: http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/game/920601.html Don't worry if it says Xbox and you're on the pc, since it's still the same game. I play the pc version, and it all worked out as it should, IIRC. For the walkthru, I recommend the one by DSimpson - it's very thorough. -
It was intended that if you build influence with Mandalore, he would eventually remove his helmet and reveal himself as Canderous. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Canderous#Personality However, like so many things in TSL, it was cut when LA pushed the deadline. Team Gizka will bring it back when TSLRP is done, though. Kreia mentions subtle refers to Revan's relationship with Mandalore, hinting that she knows who he is, in a cutscene just before Mandalore takes the exile to Onderon from Dxun. Mandalore also mentions Clan Ordo in this cutscene, further hinting at his identity to those who played the first game. At the end of the game, when you can ask Kreia about the future of your companions, asking about Mandalore will lead to Kreia eventually saying "...and Canderous is a loyal beast", proving who he is. And although the influence options are mostly cut content, you can - if you build influence with Mandalore - get him to reveal that he met and traveled with Revan during the Jedi Civil War, which naturally refers to the events of KotOR1. You can do that whether LS or DS, though naturally the choices that will let you build influence with him tend to come with DS points.
-
Hmm... "drivethrubuddha does Korriban"... That just sounds wrong somehow
-
Whao Wait am I not supposed to be able to do this?
Jediphile replied to Albion72's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Bao-Dur can only be trained to be a jedi guardian. In fact, the jedi classes of all the "jedifiable" companions in TSL are completely set - they can all be only what they being as or one pre-fixed jedi class for those than can be trained. Only the exile has freedom of choice in classes in TSL.
