KotoR 3: Ideas, Suggestions, Discussion, Part 25
Jediphile replied to SteveThaiBinh's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
How uncommon a power is that? Besides, if Revan was just there for a few months, he wouldn't even need such a power. Indeed, "using the force to drill basic into the heads of the Rakata" can simply be interpreted to me that he zapped them with lightning if they got it wrong... As much as I like Kreia, she is scarcely an impartial source given her personal relationship with Revan. Besides, if Kreia told me water was wet, I'd immediately check with a least three other people before I believed her. The 90th rule of acquisition applies more to Kreia than to anyone else: "Hear all, trust nothing." Agreed. That's my point. Revan was clever and insightful, but it doesn't follow from that observation that he must then have been some uber-force user. Like I said, I consider Revan among the more powerful jedi/sith of his age, but I see nothing to suggest he was more powerful than that. Powerful, yes, but in relation to the force? Heck, by that estimate you could even call Tarkin or Thrawn powerful as some of the highest and best officers of the Empire. As for the jedi saying Revan is powerful, well, they have to, don't they? I mean, they could scarcely call him a weakling after he kicked their collective rears... Agreed. -
Which works great in theory, only it's never been my experience that's how the system worked out. In a game like D&D that has lots of combat, the vancian system tends to reward a constant supply of Magic Missiles, Fireballs and similar combat spells because with all the combat, a wizard can always be certain to use those spells. Attempts to be foresightful and memorize other spells invariably meets with getting it wrong and being useless, thereby punishing creative thinking. In a different game, this might have been okay. A system like that could work in Call of Cthulhu or similar, since that is an investigation into identifying your enemy and then confront him on the basis of what you've discovered. Going up against the opposition without knowing it in CoC is suicide. But D&D is very much a combat game, and with 3e, the game insisted on returning to the roots of Hack 'n Slash and dungeoncrawling. It insisted on focusing om mapmaking and monsterslashing, effectively turning away from RPG toward boardgaming. If the game had focused on investation, that would have been okay, but mention one dungeoncrawl that gives clues to what you'll find there. You almost never get that, because the game insists on surprising you with your next enemy, and so memorizing Detect Undead or similar is chancy at best, while you can use those extra Magic Missiles whether you face zombies, orcs or trolls. That being the case, for D&D at least, the vancian system ended up rewarding conventional use magic in the game over creative use. It may not have been the intent, but in my experience it was always the effect.

Obviously because they aren't done yet. To quote Team Gizka: "...Coming when it's done." And while I'm eagerly awaiting TLSRP with anticipation and a sense of impatience, I appreciate that they take their time - rushing stuff is what got TSL into trouble in the first place. No reason to repeat that experience, thank you very much.

Double saber guardian build in KoTOR 2
Jediphile replied to Commandercup's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Neither can I. Seriously, as a Soldier/Guardian ARMOR BUILD, I had no trouble with the game. It's just so easy. Well, the fight with Malak could be tough. The Starforge was challenging mostly on a basis of constant waves of opposition. The one hard fight I recall is the showdown with the trandoshans on Yavin station, which is - of course - completely optional. I don't know, maybe I just didn't handle it correctly, but I was never able to finish that without at least one crewmember biting the floor. -

How so? Looking at K1, Revan built only those powers you chose to according to the game rules. The One mentions Revan using force lightning on his first arrival on Lehon, but that's scarcely a surprising display of DS power. Indeed, most of Revan's powers seem very conventional, and it was more his choices and tactics that set him apart. He was a good strategist on the basis of what the Mandalorians, especially Canderous, tell us, and you could conclude he was a good duelist since he defeated Mandalore and Yusanis. However, neither of these speak to his force abilities. -
KotoR 3: Ideas, Suggestions, Discussion, Part 25
Jediphile replied to SteveThaiBinh's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Why? None of them have suffered injury that would make that relevant last we heard. Besides, KotOR already had that with Malak. But nobody says the exile must follow either choice for good, and given that the first one is the same as for the LS ending, which one is the exile likely to have taken by the time KotOR3 begins? My point is that TSL tried to reconcile why Revan had chosen to go and seek the true Sith regardless of whether you chose the LS or DS ending in K1, even though those endings were pretty different. By the same token, the exile ends up in a similar place in TSL, setting the stage for a KotOR3 plot where the starting positions of Revan and exile are already in place. I thought Saul Karath, because his child would be hated in the Republic for the sins of the father. I mean, if this child was force sensitive, how would even the jedi respond? Surely even they would be reluctant to teach the child, fearing it might take his or her father's path. What better ironiy would it be to have a such a person become pivotal to the fate of the galaxy - will this person save a galactic republic that hates him or her, or will he or she against it out of revenge for the treatment. Lots of character potential right there, I think. Well, yes and no. Kreia says Revan was powerful, but then she's not exactly the most impartial source, being his old mentor and clearly very proud of it. It's almost as if regardless of al the terrible things Revan did, she prides herself on how significant Revan has been to galactic history, perhaps because she is bitter over how her own teachings have always been scorned by the jedi and so never allowed her to achieve her own goals, so now she takes pride in the accomplishment of the "child" she has raised. Kreia is a mother-like character and very proud of her "son" Revan. Berating the exile for his or her missteps frequently comes with ill-hidden references to how much better Revan did things. Not that I disagree Revan was powerful, mind you. I consider Revan among the most powerful sith/jedi of his age. As for hearing about the childhood of Revan and exile, no thanks. I agree with qt-pi (heh - just got that ) that their pasts is whatever you want for them as pc of their game. This is especially true in Revan's case because his motives for "falling" to the dark side is for the player to decide. Was Revan seduced by the dark side or did he, as Kreia speculates, never fall but instead made a choice to become something terrible to serve a greater good? That goes to the heart of who Revan is, and you can't delve into that without interfering with motives that are for the player to decide. This is one thing that TSL handled really well by letting characters speculate about it but not giving evidence for. It has created a few problems too, though, like some fans who now insist that Revan is so powerful that even the dark side itself cannot control him, that he is beyond corruption, and than he only took the mantle of sith lord to gain more power and only did horrible things to the republic in order to prepare for the coming struggle with the true Sith, who would have done worse to the republic anywat (insert unspoken 'so who cares what evil he did to the republic' here). -
'Cause they have an army. Look what happened when the Sith had a bigger one. Sidious took over the galaxy. Revan would have if Malak wasn't a complete and total idiot. The Sith did not have an army when Sidious took over - he simply swindled the Republic's army, which included jedi, to turn against them. As for Revan, that's like saying the Sith would be stronger if they didn't do, well, Sithy things. Of course Malak betrayed Revan - he was supposed to as his apprentice. It's not like that's the first time it happened, or even the last. Evil always turns on itself. But I'd agree if you argued that's why the dark side will always lose. The nature of the dark side is destruction. The strong survive (Revan, Bane), the weak die (Malak, Retard). And Revan (captured and reprogrammed by the jedi), Palpatine (killed by his apprentice), Plagueis (ditto), Naga Sadow (again, ditto). The list goes on and on. We don't know about Bane only because his story isn't finished yet. But no, the strong don't survive among the Sith - they are killed by the jedi or betrayed by their own who want their power or both. Based on what? The sith seem to be the one thing they are highly wary of and never underestimate. Tell that to Palpatine or Borsk Fey'lya. Wookieepedia tells a very different story with reference to Darth Bane: Path of Destruction http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Rakata#Post-Civil_War

Actually, you're right - the HK-47/G0T0/Remote ending doesn't work without the HK factory, and since that is central to the ultimate fate of Malachor V, we need that back in the story too. Strange thing is that even though the part was cut from the game, LA still confirmed it as canon, given that New Essential Guide to Droids mentions G0T0's "death" on Malachor V.

KotoR 3: Ideas, Suggestions, Discussion, Part 25
Jediphile replied to SteveThaiBinh's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Ehm, except throughout all of K1? LS/DS is "eliminated" by the common stance against the true Sith (whoever they are), because they are either a threat to the Republic that LS Revan must stop or else a threat of DS Revan's dream of an empire. But the same is just as true for the exile. As for mask, sure, you can fix the gender/appearance by having both Revan and exile wear masks, but why bother? How many different faces do you have for Revan in K1 and exile in TSL to choose from? And they all worked out just fine, even though that's probably the most seen face in each game. It's a total nonissue. Voice is actually more challenging, but not really a problem - TSL has lots of cut Traya dialogue by both Kreia and Atris, depeding on who turned out to be Traya in the originally planned plot. So having both male and female alternatives for both Revan and exile is not really a major problem. Some argue that exile never spoke in TSL (whereas Revan does make "ready"-comments in K1), but frankly I'd rather have a fixed voice for exile than not have the character speak at all. Kreia: "Instead, I remained here... and now show others the way.But the way lies past me. If you wish to go, then you need to stop me.It is your choice. I had hoped you would follow Revan's path, but you and Revan are... different, and your path is your own.You may take one of the ships that orbit Malachor and depart this place. Or you may remain here on Malachor, and wait for the others, those touched by the Force, who will come in time.Or you may return to your exile, where your presence will no longer affect the actions of others. There is no dishonor in any of these choices... I only ask that you make the choice without regret." Well, I'll admit getting that mask is optional and only if you don't sacrifice Visas. Obviously she was human, but are there even any of the Mandalorian species left? Didn't seem so to me. Besides, Mira tells the exile she is of mandalorian descent. A slave? Sure, but all the neo-mandalorians were until they decided to join. That's true of all mandalorians we've seen taking their masks off in the games, though I'll admit those numbers are few. We didn't, which is why exploring that is a viable option. Didn't say you were. That comment was not directed at you. But there are fanboys out there who have a very exaggerated opinion of just how powerful Revan was and is. Satisfied? -

Unlike Revan? Again, this is just as much an argument against Revan as against the exile. Did Revan's alignment from K1 matter to what role he/she played and had gone in TSL? No. The same will be true of Revan in K3 and is actually even more appropriate for the exile, given that there is very little difference in where the character ends up at the end of the game regardless of LS/DS choice. LS choice: Revan needs you, go and help him. DS choice: Revan needs help, you can go yourself now or you can stay on Malachor V showing others the way before you go yourself later. Plotwise not a lot of difference IMHO. K1 had far, far more different LS and DS endings for Revan. Exile kicked way more and had people taking numbers by the end of TSL. Revan's alleged abilities are mostly in the minds of fanboys. He was a powerful jedi, sure, and a excellent strategist, according the mandalorians, but there is nothing to confirm him as the ultimate force-god that some people seem to perceive him to be. Besides, if LA wanted it, Revan could be killed by a pack of gizka. Yes, but no more so than the exile. What, the exile cannot wear a mask? I certainly remember the exile getting a mask in TSL Yes... though only in theory The idea of a jedi of mandalorian origin is not new. Indeed, we already had one in TSL if you trained Mira. It's been speculated about before, but there should be a better plot reason for it than "OMG, Mandalorians kick ass, so a Mandalorian Jedi must ROXXR!!!" (sorry, not quite into all that jargon). If there is a plot reason, why not. I've yet to see one that looked compelling to me, though. Indeed, playing the son or daughter (gender choice) of Saul Karath or such would seem far more intereresting IMHO. -

Waste of talent IMHO. I mean, have you seen Patrick Stewart as the bad guy in "Conspiracy Theories"? Brrr... -

Jediphile replied to qt3.14159's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
McKellen was Gandalf in LotR, yes, and has expressed interest in reprising the role for The Hobbit, which now thankfully looks like it might actually be made with McKellen in just that role. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0903624/ Heck, he liked Gandalf so much that he turned it down when they offered him the role of Dumbledore in Harry Potter, which may be the reason why you heard wrong. Richard Harris played Dumbledore in the first two Harry Potter movies before he passed away, which was the point at which it was offered to McKellen. He turned it down, however, because he did not want to be a associated with two old wizards, and so it instead went to Michael Gambon who has played Dumbledore since. McKellen himself, however, is fine and still working - http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005212/ -

Jediphile replied to qt3.14159's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
We'd have a lil' of a problem, since dead people can't act... And if it could act he'd be amazing as a force ghost Whoa, who died? McKellen and Stewart are both fine last thing I heard. Still, they'd be wrong for those characters. Morgan Freeman would be better as Jolee, and Stewart is way, way too cool an actor to play Mr. Cheesy. Merely being bald does turn Stewart into Malak. Vin Diesel would be far more appropriate. -
I'm not so sure about that. Sure there is a lot more to the end-game now, but I'd say that Nar Shaddaa would have about the same amount of added content as Malachor. Though I must admit the additions to Malachor help it actually make sense, which it never did before. I meant more in the sense of plot structure and story development. Sure a lot was cut from Nar Shaddaa, but it did not hurt the game to such a degree that it wounded the plot IMHO. So while I look forward to restored content of Nar Shaddaa, I don't think the game needs it for the plot to hang together. I cannot say the same about Malachor V.

Double saber guardian build in KoTOR 2
Jediphile replied to Commandercup's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Lots of advice here: http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/game/920601.html I don't recommend the guardian, though. I played a guardian in KotOR1, but since skills are far, far more important and useful in TSL, I prefer the sentinel. It's fine either way, though. Unlike K1, TSL is easy with very few or no truly difficult encounters, even at the highest difficulty level. And the exile tends to be rediculously uber-powered by the end of the game anyway. -
Well, obviously the endgame is the part of the game most harmed by the rushed deadline, so naturally that would probably be what most of us look forward to. Certainly I do. Malachor in the released version is terrible plotwise - long and boring slashfests in rocky terrain or pointless corridors with the NPCs disappearing into thin air with no explanation. Basically the plot goes into suspended animation from the moment you hit (!) Malachor V until you get to interact with Sion or, more appropriately, Traya. Restoring some actual plot to that dungeon crawl would indeed be a high point in my eyes. That's not to say I'm not looking forward to other stuff, though. The HK factory and Genoharadan bit is stuff to look forward too as well.

KotoR 3: Ideas, Suggestions, Discussion, Part 25
Jediphile replied to SteveThaiBinh's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Agreed. This is exactly the reason why playing as Revan or exile again would suck. You cannot start at level 20+, because progressive development of the character is one of the most engrossing parts of the game. For a d20-derived game like KotOR, that means gaining experience levels and building powers, so you must start at level 1. And we already did that with both Revan and exile. That's not to say they are not essential to the plot, however. They must both be in any K3 plot, and not merely as names that are conveniently killed off in the background. I'll be truly disappointed if they turn up dead in the plot. -
After illegally downloading their work? DW, some of your posts were retarted enough in Codex to generate lulz for coming generations. Please do not continue it here Ain't that the truth. Please cool it down, guys. This is not leading us anywhere positive. I'd hate to see this particular topic turn into a flamefest and have it locked by the mods. Besides, any generalizations against DW is strictly off topic and neither interesting nor constructive IMHO.

KotoR 3: Ideas, Suggestions, Discussion, Part 25
Jediphile replied to SteveThaiBinh's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
That LA/Bioware project is NOT KotOR3. In fact, it's not KotOR at all. See my sig. Meh... until something's ACTUALLY been announced on LA.com or Bioware.com, I'm not giving up hope. There've just been too many articles that have been released contradicting the one in your siggy. So I've learned over time not to believe anything that doesn't come straight from the horse's mouth, be it good OR bad news. We've seen lots of articles speculating about KotOR3 or KotOR MMO for the purpose of peddling their articles, since they know full well that fans hungry for news about KotOR is no small crowd. It's precisely for that reason I point to my sig, since it links to an article where IGN actually spoke to a LA representative who said the LA/Bioware collaboration has nothing to do with KotOR. Now, I may not credit IGN with being highly believable when they speculate about games, but in this case they quote LA directly, and I do trust IGN to be accurate then they refer to the actual company as their source. So in short, either the LA/Bioware project is indeed not related to KotOR at all, or else either LA or IGN is directly lying to the public. I doubt LA or IGN would do that, because the consequences of doing so would be devastating. Nobody would ever believe anything IGN wrote or said ever again, so they can't afford to do so. And it would be pretty bad for LA as well for pretty much the same reason. And note that it's a quote directly from LA in quotation marks, which means it does indeed come straight from the horse's mouth. If that is incorrectly quoted with LA as a source, that's grounds for legal action by LA against IGN. I doubt IGN would risk that, too. So no, there is no LA/Bioware KotOR3. It's not under development. It doesn't exist. These aren't the droids you're looking for. Move along. Besides, how is saying Bioware is not doing KotOR3 giving up hope? Frankly, I'd much rather have Obsidian do it, and it's been a while since I've heard Obsidian deny they're working on KotOR3. Even if they're not, that doesn't mean KotOR3 is not being considered. LA had better get it right this time, though, which may explain the delay. -
No need to be a sith lord for that
