A government warns school not to not celebrate Christmas

"However for the past 1700 yrs or so its been crammed down our throat as the birth of the biblical jesus." I dunno about you, but I haven't been around for 1700 years so it hasn't been'forced' down my throat nearly that long. -
"dungeon crawler but for an RPG.." Umm.. dungeon crawlers *are* rpgs.... "Whereas the approval system I thought was clearly an element of this that I did kind of like. It illustrated the companions as having their own sets of values, while allowing you to interact with that in a choice/consequence fashion." There will still be an approval system as every BIO RPG since BG1 has had an 'approval' system. Just because the numbers aren't flashing in neon lgihts doesn't mean it don't exist. "i dont care either way so long as it fits the game. planescape torment for instance would still have worked imo if you couldn't mess with your npc's gear. Final fantasy 7 or baldurs gate would not." Disagree. It hurts the rpgness the more power you give the player over companions. Makes them more automations than actual characters even though I dunstand the 'funness' of it hence why dungeon crawlers are enjoyable.

"Anyone want to take bets? North Korea starting a war with South Korea or "pre-emptive strikes" from all the lighthouses of democracy in the world starting a war. Which side would you bet on?" You do realzie that, technically, the war has been going on for decades right? Also, NK has been engaged in acts of war for a long time already including attacks on SK multiple times. The only thing there hasn't been fullout engagment yet is because of the restraint of the side youn seem to hate on in your post. Anyways, if a full scale war starts, it'll be bloody for everyone, and it'll be 100% NK's fault.

A government warns school not to not celebrate Christmas
Volourn replied to Humodour's topic in Way Off-Topic
Banning Christmas in 2010 based on religious religions is bogus anyways since it's largely a holdiday meant to celebrate family not really the birth of Christ. *shrug* "Perfect example of how some people are so afraid of insulting other that they actually end up insulting everyone.. If I lived (for instance) in a predominantly Muslim society I would be pretty upset if the local politicians cancelled Ramadan out of fear of how it would affect my minority." Exactly. -
Except 'pirates' (thieves) have been caught, and prosecuted. And, legal authorities are dealing with the issue. It *is* a crime to pirate or purchase pirated copies in any modernized civlized nation. As will it should be since it's pure theft. Now matter the lame excuses defending it.

"Games 'such as' PST? Come on Volo, name another game like PST? Alternatively post something like roofles or similarly enervating." I believes PST as an example was all that is needed to smackdown about whining about DA2's 'lack of choice' because you can't choose your race when in that game you can't choose race, name, gender, and only have 3 classes (only one of which you start with) yet PSt gives you lots of important chocies throughout the game so mega fial on your part. Not saying DA2 will be as C&C heavy as PST was but whining about the inability to choose race because of it is silly. And, this is coming from someone who would love to be able to play a dwarf. Espicially since DA2 will likely have lots of player choices just like DA1. But, oh noes, you can't your race, so it will be just like Super Mario Bros. LMAO
-
The only thing you can't choose is race and last name. *shrug* You choose a lot more than you do in such games as as PST. R00fles!

My Super Pyscho Sweet 16 - Weird movie. Is this a sequel 'cause otherwise really weird how it played out... Overall, typical horror movie that couldm have been made better if it took some more chances. Solid acting by an unknown acting despite the obvious low production of the thing.

Nowhere did I say it was at the same level. But, nice way to try to avoid the topic.

"The fact of the matter is, Piracy will happen" The fact of the matter is, murder will happen.. so we shouldn't do anything to try to stop it. Don't you see how silly thata rgument is? Stealing is wrong, and piracy is theft. This is simple fact. To say otherwise is an attempt to spin things to easy one's concious in order to make stealing games morally acceptable when it is not. P.S. Saying publishing books is different than publishing games 9don't remmeber who said that) is silly. It's pretty much the same thing. IOn both publishers' cases they put a lot of money and effort to sell soemthing to a lot of people. They should be compensated for it espicially since as Di mentioned, she wouldn't be able to reach such a huge audience without their help. Both sides benefits. One could make ana rgument that the publisher-artist relationship is too unbalanced in favor of the publisher but that's between the publisher and artist not the thieves.

"and we're back to "every download is a lost sale". it isn't" I didn't claim that so don't stuff up. i said, quite clearly, takinmg something that does NOT belong to you without permission is theft. That's EXACTLY what piracy is. That's why it's theft. Did id you know,. btw, that bother armed robbery and shop lifting are theft? Two different types but still theft. Piracy is just another type of theft. "but in third-world countries you either pirate games or don't play games at all." Boo hoo. Cry me a river. If you are living in suchn tough places, you have muych bigger worries then whether or not you are able to play video games. " and most people actually don't play (they can't afford to upgrade their PC or console every few years)." Tough ****. I cna't afford to upgrade my PC every couple of years either. Your point? " I don't believe a game developer would rather have them never see his game, than know that they had a chance to appreciate his work without buying a copy." Balony. One shopuld be rewarded for their work. You know, thank god my customers at work don't feel the way you do... partake in my services but not pay for it. LMAO " (and I don't give a rat's ass about publishers. I'd rather see them disappear completely from the scheme). " Without publishers fewer people would be able to enjoy developers' works. There's a reason why publishers exist, and it's ebcause there's a hole to fill. But, stop making excuses. Thieves steal games for one reason - selfishness - they wnat something and they don't want to pay for it. Period. Trying to paint publishers as evil because they want to get paid for their work is insulting to all those employees who work their butts off. Cut out the publisher, and that's THOUSANDS of jobs lost. And, a lot less games to buy and a lot less games will be able to reach a wide audience which counters your silly point.

"this is true to an extent." Not to an extent. That's all there is to it. " but it doesn't change the fact that piracy isn't that big a deal" yes, it is. Not as big other things but sitll a big deal. ", and it's certainly not theft. " It is theft. theft = taking something that doesn't belong to you without permission which is exactly what piracy is. Therefore it *is* theft.

"What I'm saying is the US can't just come with couple of bomber squadrons and take out NK missiles and artillery in one or two strikes and yeeee victory for the US!!!" Who claimed they could?
-
If NK's army was as powerful as you NK propagandists would ahve us to believe, they'd have already conquered SK . Afterall, the US and others are no match for them right? RIGHT? So, why can't NK just take over the world sicne they are so unstoppable? Huh? I mean, having the ability to sink one modern sub, and lob some bombs is just amazing proof of one's military dominace. I guess.
-
"In NK things are much more different then people tend to believe." You don't know what I may believe about NK army since I haven't really talked about it. The point I wa smaking is that the actual size of an army is nearly irrelevant nowadays. This ain't the 1500s. Or heck, it's not even the Amerikan Revolution Era where the British cried about the 'lack of hnour' of their Amerikan foes because they didn't stand in ptretty rows to be mowed down by the 'superior army'. I'm sure NK's elite soliders might very well be well trained, and capable. But the common foot soldier? The nobodies? The ones treated like crap? I seriously doubt they'll hesitate to surrender the moment they realize that things are going bad. "They are going to the military," They are going to the military elite. HUGE difference. NK may have millions of soldiers but I bet a small fraction of those get any worthwhile training and are treated well. NK simply doesn't have the finances to support such a huge army in the same manner other countries do. Even the 'common soldier' in the US army is treated reasonably well with state of the art equipment.. nad, when they aren't, the complaints are loud enough to make the changes needed. " most of the people there do not have the same perception on what is right and wrong opposite to those like let's say people in the west have. To them the US is the enemy, not only in the regime but amongst the people themselves, and when you look NK and their society which is like no other in the world, it comes as no surprise." Man. The NK gov't propaganda really brainwashed you. If you think the common NK civilian has time to worry about the US enough to hate on them you are delusional. They're more worried about starving. The fact there are constant tales of NK fleeing the country says their hatred of the outside world is just not true. There's a reason why NK makes it illegal for the typical NKean to travel says everything I need to. A country's military strength is fueled by the population. If the population is poor, trust me, the typical part of the army is also going to be poor. "you won't be waging war against an army with low morale and ill equipped, you'll be waging war against fanatics who have been preparing for war with you for the last 57 years. I personally hope there won't be a war, because it would mean large scale civilian casualties, likely use of WMD, not to mention a possible scenario of this war going out of proportion and spreading to other countries. This war would bring only misery and death, and no good to anyone." Totally brainwashed by NK propaganda.

Piracy is stealing. That's a fact. Theftb is taking something without permission that you don't have the right to. That's what piracy is. It's immoral, and people using the excuse of being is poor are pieces of crap. This isn't survival ala the fabled 'man steals food for starving family'. Games are not needed. If you can't afford them to buy them and don't play them. I don't care if you think they're too expesnive. there are plenty of things I want but can't get because they are out of my price range. Guess what? I don't get them. Stop making excuses for scummery.

"You do realise that North Korea has the fourth largest army in the world?" Irrelevant. Going by numbers, Iraq had more soldiers than the US did during the war.. it didn't help them when the majority of said soldiers promptly surrendered. The same would happen with NK soliders. Outside of the elite trained loyally brainwashed, the run of the mill common foot soldier will likely choose to not fight. "Bombing their government back to the stone age solves nothing, we have seen that time and time again. " We've also seen that strategy work as well. It workedm in WW2, afterall. Just ask Germany and Japan. It also worked in iraq since guess what? The former dictator is no longer in the powerand that country is slowly working its way along. Nobody said change was easy. Not that i reccommend such an approach except as an absolutely last resort. Besdies, nopbody is saing that the NK peoplem are evil. If anything, people are saying that the NK people are the NK's government victims. Their prisoners in their own country. That's sickening, and its sickening that some people want to keep the status quo because it doesn't effect them directly. It's verys elfish to want freedom for yourself but don't want others to have freedom. I enjoy freedom in my country, and I believe NK civilians DESERVE freedom too. Nobody is gonna go around bombing NK civilians for fun. they're gonna likely target military targets. I do love the whole 'US is evil, and anything the US does is evil' propaganda, though. It's hilarious! All the while approving a country like NK's actions. of murder.

BIO's weakest games are KOTOR and Sonic RPG. JE is one of their best. Period. Two Worlds is NOTHING like The Witcher and I doubt the sequels are any similar.

"Witcher 2 isn't even out so saying it's trash is just stupid." The hilarity of such a comment being posted in a DA2 thread where people are bashing a game not even out is just flat out cool. "Personally I think we just have to suffer thru bad graphics in Dragon Age games (at least 2 and 3 )" You know what's cool? It's called this thing we call freedom. freedom to play or not play whatever games you want. Don't like it, don't play it. Problem solved. It's why I didn't buy Sonic RPG, LV, or won't buy W2. But, i bought DA, NHL 11, and will buy Two Worlds 2. *SHRUg*

The Witcher 1 and 2 is trash. Plain and simple. And, disucssing that trash in a DA2 thread only serves to prove that those two games are trash and will always be trash. As for DA2. Graphics - Meh. Whilem DA2 graphics don't look to be the best ever, they are nowhere near as bad as the usual suspects claim. New Armour/Weapon Rules - Seems a little too conoluted for what they are trying to accomplish. The old system is fine. Mages *should* be squishier for the most part than warriors and the system doens't really change their so called issue. So.. what's the point other than to be different? That's my biggest issue with DA2 9and ME2 for that matter). Is that BIo seems to be changing things up just because they can not because they need to. And, I blame that desire of BIo on guys like Boo who are always whining that BIo games are always the 'same' (even though they aren't). Tsk, tsk.
