  1. So does this game have any city building aspect to it, or is it more the Age of Empires/more typical RTS sort of thing, if that makes sense?
  2. I was mostly thinking I might want a new GPU...the 590 is still great but it's kinda reaching that point where my "want a nice fps buffer" speed-freak nature might want more powah. Especially when a game doesn't utilize both the 590's cores. The fps mark drops at even 2540x1440 still worry me. Although those are usually tested with AA really high I guess, which I wouldn't do. Edit: Oops...it's even worse, I was mistaking the 2540 marks list for the 4k ones... haha. Yeah...no.
  3. So looking at fps marks for 4k runs of this (and other cards), I see that they don't fare all that well (solo, not sli'd, I mean). This card gets around 55fps, which is actually ok, but most cards below it are dropping to the 40's or even 30's. Be a while before lower/mid-price cards get there, I guess, eh? Not that I'm personally planning on a 4k monitor any time soon ... but it's interesting. 50ish fps is fine, but I wouldn't want to go back to 30fps. And I'm not sure I want to spend $700+ again, either. At least not with the whole 4k thing on the horizon.
  4. This. Most of the time it's better to grow/support the friendship, and to hope that if she wants help/support that she'll know you're there for her. Just diving in with unexpected/unsolicited lecture/concerns isn't usually the best way, especially in a work environment. If you're buddies with her family and they ask you to help with some kind of big intervention-like thing because her family is that concerned, that might be one thing, but if you're not ... I'd leave it alone.
  5. Hubs brought home a 2540x1440 (or whatever it is...) 27" IPX (IPS? heck I can't keep up anymore) monitor that was super cheap because it has no built-in monitor color settings/on-screen displays or something. Which is poo, but if it looks good enough maybe I wouldn't care. I think it's HP. Going to try it and see what kind of fps drops I get playing games, haha. Keep thinking about a new GPU but not sure it's worth the prices at the moment since the gtx-590 still seems plenty fine. But I've also been feeling rather down, which sometimes equals me going on a shopping spree. Maybe I should hold off for the 4k revolution, tho.
  6. Kangaroo rat, right? I want one of those. They're so cute.
  7. Today I am exhausted, but extremely restless. Still going through a de-motivated "I don't really like anything" phase and unable to shake it, which makes me cranky as well as restless. Good thing I have Mr. Black. Oh and my hubby. He's all right, too.
  8. After ignoring it for a while, I downloaded the most recent alpha .752 of Planet Explorers. Didn't really play it yet, just sorta ran around the start area a little. Apparently, one can now collect water in a pitcher - why, I don't know. Another health boost item I suppose? But the farming is now available, so I thought I'd check out what the means. I've already gotten some seeds by picking the plants. Graphically it mostly looks the same, although the new water effects are kinda nice I guess. Hope they slowed down the weapon degradation by now, because that was really annoying. I still don't like the new "dig here" bubble indicator feel, vs. the long ago original alpha.
  9. Being someone who is very against "colorizing" old movies and likes black and white photography even in the digital age, I have no problem with a monochrome game, if the atmosphere is there to go along with it. But I'd like the monochrome better without the color bits. I understand artistically why this is done at times, but for some reason I never like the result.
  10. Spent the day doing various stuff with the spouse while grousing about the April showers. It was so nice/warm for a couple weeks, now it's suddenly (California winter) again. Mentally, I rebel. And at least when sitting in this unheated room at 4am, I have to put on pants. Boo. I saw the beginning of "Commando" on TV earlier this evening, which made me guffaw. I personally never thought of that as Ahnuld's best action film by any means, but I remember finding it enjoyable enough when I saw it way back when. But it has not, imo, aged well at all. Note I'm not saying it's terrible - only that it now makes me giggle uncontrollably more than get excited about the stunts and action.
  11. I just meant it wasn't about Rick being a failure. It was, like you said, to juxtapose farmer Rick (and his struggling morality) vs. the emerging Rickanator. Rick has never been a real Rickantor before, imo. Acceptance of what he's always thought of as the monster inside himself - that he's capable of these awful things and a loss of his civilized humanity in order to protect family - wasn't really there. Unlike the Governor, Rick always felt guilty, or conflicted, even as he was aware he had to do stuff sometimes (cop-mode). Like how guilty/horrified he was re: Shane. So in the finale, I think the flashbacks are to show how he tried to be like Herschel (Farm Rick was all Herschel's fault, apparently ), for the sake of his son (who if you recall was on verge of being an unfeeling killer), but in the end, now, he finally accepts that loss of (civilized) humanity/doesn't feel the guilt anymore. He's comfortable with himself and what he has to do in post-apoc. reality, instead of moralistically agonizing over it/hating that he has to, but also hasn't lost ability to bond with humans. Realizing it isn't either/or (monster or humanity). You can embrace the savage (instead of fear it) while still maintaining a level of your humanity. eg, he's not the Governor, or Herschel/Dale, or even Shane/Merle or "Joey's simple code" group, and Rick can finally move forward without being afraid of himself or letting self-doubt cloud his personal judgement. Hence his total angry (over?) confidence at finale end. In the finale, when Carl is asked if "he deserved it" and said yes, and Rick gives him that glance, I saw that as Rick realizing that Carl understood (vs. Rick being afraid that Carl is frightened of dad, now). eg, they're starting to be on the same page.
  12. I think my chair just moved! ... no, wait, it was just my cat rubbing it's chin against the legs. Never mind.
  13. Here's another one where you can better hear Freeman going for the accent - plus Bob Odenkirk saying "oh geez" = me lol) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHnwlnYbioI
  14. Watched the first 4 eps. of "Resurrection". I sorta liked it. I can tell I'll eventually get tired of the "why are they back and what small-town buried secrets does everyone have?" angles but, well, I'm used to that and it's enough to keep me watching for a while. It feels a bit Stephen King-y, I mean. That 70's Show's dad dude is always good, imo, and I liked that the actor from House was ... bouncing a ball against the wall. Haha! Missed that post....I've seen that commercial a few times, definitely didn't make the connection. I didn't realize he did that Skyrim song bit, either. And finally ... sorry if it was mentioned before a while back or something, but today I saw this and went wtf? Then "well, but Martin Freeman! (and Billy Bob Thorton) ... It might be ok...maybe" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jFU0r0xG_c
  15. Even if I was rich, I'd have no desire to pay $3000 for a personal-computer GPU. I'd rather build a 2nd puter for $2000 with a $1000 GPU in it, instead.
  16. But that wasn't what the flashbacks were about/wasn't their purpose ....
  17. I know some people hate it when people post replies that consist only of smilies, but ... ...I haven't watched the KS video yet, but the still image is pretty funny.
  18. I'll sometimes notice stuff like that, just like I'll notice how everyone in movies can survive falls from great height onto cars and parking lots with barely a scratch, let alone a broken ankle, but most of the time, as long as it's fun to watch, I just don't care. Oh but that random-glasses guy being eaten by zombies does illustrate why I find zombies unto themselves pretty boring. I mean, he wasn't totally surrounded when you first see him .... the guy couldn't run away? He's just standing there crying and waving his stick or whatever ... run, guy, run?
  19. Raining again. Which means I could put on a raincoat and go outside with an umbrella and plastic-baggied camera and take cool shots of raindrops and puddles, or I could stay indoors lounging around in my underwear whilst playing games. Hm. Tough choice.
  20. All I noticed was one of the games has "The Cat" in the title. Which I'm guessing is "The Cat Lady", which sounded like fun to me when I saw it on GoG, until I read the description and realized there were likely hardly any cats to be found....
  21. Fave omelet - mushroom, onion, bell pepper, linguica or sausage (no cheese...), extra garlic slices is always nice Spaghetti - tomato paste/water/spices, 1/2 to 1 cup super-hot salsa, tons of garlic, lots of sliced mushrooms and sliced olives (none of that "can barely see any 'shrooms or olives" stuff), half/half hamburger and mild italian sausage. Edit - I once forgot the sausage in my spaghetti and when our friend ate it, he was all "where's the sausage? Did you stop doing that?" My lasagna is heart-attack on a plate, with zero ricotta cheese, but it sure is tasty.
  22. My palate finds 1 or 2 topping pizza's really boring. I like at least 3 toppings. My limit for pizza would probably be about 6 toppings. I also make "junk" spaghetti, lasagna, omelets, and so on. There are of course flavors I may not like together (teriyaki sauce and Caesar dressing would not go together, imo ), but having way more than a few flavors I do like all smashed together doesn't "ruin" anything, for me. If anything, it often enhances the experience. At least...for meat/vegie/salt type flavors. Sugary sweets is the one where I don't like mushing flavors together. eg, I don't like the "3 flavors in one bowl with candy sprinkles and bananas and nuts and whip cream and cookie crumbs" type stuff. I don't even like fruit on my cheesecake.
  23. But can he armfart yet? A father's job is never done!
  24. Yesssssssss ..... it's Rickanator! Well, it wasn't an "omg what happens next/wanna know now!" major cliffhanger type of show, but I enjoyed it quite a lot and don't mind the lack of immediate suspense. I guess some didn't like the flashback parts, but I liked them, if only to see Scott Wilson again (the flashback scenes were new-shot, not actually taken from previous episodes). My only two minor complaints were: Andrew Lincoln on The Talking Dead was awesome. First time I've ever watched more than 5-10 minutes of that after-show.
  25. I'm not a major fan or anything, I just 80's remember him from Ordinary People, Taps, Falcon and Snowman etc and then he fell off my radar. Then I occasionally see him in something obscure (to me at least) and wonder what he's been up to. I think I made myself watch The Dark Half largely because I recognized his name. If netflix has it I'll check the Nero one out too, thanks.
