  1. Pretty clear example of being stuck in a loop concerning the past, which could be solved by self reflection, learning a lesson and becoming more secure, instead of the negative route of blaming others and being insecure of it happening again in the future.
  2. Sounds about right. They're very story oriented, and I'm also bored by their generally stoic main character meanwhile the world which surrounds is a circus. Very odd mix that always felt off for me. Just can't get into it despite the great settings they choose. But I'm glad people here are enjoying it. Makes no difference to me.
  3. That statement can pretty much apply to every good game developer. But the answer is probably somewhere in the range of 30-60 hours for me. Hard to say so early on. Point is, their games aren't replayable. I know that's not their aim but I really just like to stick to replayable games from here on out.
  4. Many pc eletists seem to have this mentality and because Rockstar treats pc eletists as a second-thought I kinda understand any bitterness that comes their way but the hype has been backed up quite nicely. As others have said on this forum, the horses alone have more depth than any rpg npc you can name. Fishing and hunting in the game equally have more depth than stand alone hunting/fishing games. Companions are written with meaning, a maturity. All these things are lacking in your usual rpg. To answer your question directly though, like I said, the open world is lively and the story is great. Honestly, I think I have another hundred hours or so befor I stop playing. And that's okay because by that time either Red Dead Online will be released or I'll be buying another game anyway. Either way, it's one of those few games that I am happy I paid over $60 for. Definitely not elite, their style, as said before, is done in the dirt for me.
  5. Rockstar hype never ceases to snag influx of attention. How long till the drawn out story/missions have you putting down the game for good?
  6. "Throw-away games" by your standard, (in reality better written, better developed games with more love.) I'd be scared to ask what your particular definition of "keepers" would be. My definitions of keepers would be Nier: Automata, Dragon's Dogma - Dark Arisen, Super Meat Boy among others. Feel free to tell me how they are throw-away games (of you've even played these) vs the overrated nostalgic crap we tend to so highly covet and tote as "revolutionary to the industry". As games took lower steps to progress the industry then, they are taking huge leaps now. This goes with any and every characteristic of a game whether graphics, writing, story, sound, music and so on. We can pretend this isn't real only if we possess the great occultic mindset of "I grew up with this so therefore it's the best - I had some great times with that one!" And the like. Personalized memories and preference does not affect the truth to state in reality and what is happening in the world around us. Anyway, I don't feel guilty at all, what gave you that impression? There's no guilt for me to feel in just telling the truth and nothing more. If the rest of/majority the forum believes it is about opinion or somehow I am out of place just because they're older, doesn't mean any one of them is right. Hell, I was alive in the "golden era" of gaming so it's not like I do jot know, regardless of how a few members may wish that would be true. Do I feel attacked? Nah. It's all good, the evolution within the gaming industry whether writing, hardware, games and art-styles is a reality. Cyberpunk 2077 by most member's authority in mindset os the perfect example of this - IF they actually believe it is as good as they think it will be. Hehe Same can be said with hardware, but that's even more troublesome variables. Most people still expect a modern game to support DX9 or an older game to support Win 8.1/10 or Win 10 to be compatible with some older games. Whatever the case, sometimes this delusion even stems from entitlement. I mean, I have my 9800 Pro 256mb agp and X800 XL as well, I don't expect nor want developers to comply to those low standards in the games industry today, no matter how legendary they once were. Legacy means nothing today, as it shouldn't. To be honest, I'm not even going to read all of that. It's a non issue, or should be. I see games today designed behind better tools and coders, not so much designers or writers, though a an exception will always exist. Yup, that's about it.
  7. Dunno what I said to make you feel guilty. Sorry that you upgraded to play a lot of throw-a-way games, that you hopefully enjoyed? Really a non issue here, but clearly have some ongoing drama, and that looks to be the source of the issue.
  8. I guess this is in response to my post? If not, my bad. Can't say I've had any issues with many games, but the select few, and the compatibility worsens with older games as newer systems are built, not the other way around. And lastly, so few games strike my interest these days that I'll gladly stay in the dark until something gives me a reason not to. CP2077 might be it, but also maybe not. Regardless, not sure why that's your concern other than being bugged a little by nostalgic gamers.
  9. Last time I even thought of a new PC build was with the release of GTA V, and eventually it just couldn't entice me enough. Still haven't bought it nor upgraded outside an SSD. CP2077 looks like the next game to test me, but if I do bite I'll be late to the party. Too many old games that are still fun to play.
  10. I'll agree with you there as far as flare is concerned. I prefer gunplay stripped down but with good feedback that actually gives you some sense of the weapon, as well as quickish lateral movement, etc. CP 2077 has some of the former but misses with the rest it seems, but anyway, it seems somewhat of a moot point if the rest of the game is good.
  11. Shooting looks a lot better than any Deus Ex to me. I guess I can see it being rigid, but that just reminds me of Source engine games with their low levels of recoil which for me makes for better gameplay. I don't want a real person's arms simulated in front of my mouse, I want my mouse to pass straight through to the game-loop. It also seems like it's pushing the genre more than anything. If not it will hold down the fort for a new generation seeing as Square is letting Deus Ex hibernate. That one character "Stout" had some really dry and forced VA. Which contrasted weirdly against some of the more grounded performances. But open-world voiced game get's VA right all the time. I agree about the interactive environment being the best thing. I'm excited to navigate this world with different kits. It's better but still pretty rigid, though can't really expect much more for an apparent big game. Can't say I'm a big fan of Source shooting either. The characters and voice overs have a Starbreeze meets Mass Effect feel, which is another plus. Interaction as a whole is well done.
  12. Shooting looks so rigid, like Deus EX HR. Not really into it so far. Seems just like a retread of the genre. Narrative is also all in your face, trying too hard, but that's more a personal gripe. The interactive aspect with environment is by far the best thing going for it.
  13. Yeah, a sort of intellectual hijacking driven by pretentiousness. Too many bad decisions with that series for me to care, but the frequent releases doesn't help either. DICE is a Swedish chicken with it's head cut off at this point though. Not even sure that'd make a good meatball. They're done.
  14. Yeah. I've always preferred those photo realistic textures of that era, along with the GTAs and such, especially for urban environments. It's simpler but more effective and immersive and it just plain looks better.
  15. I wouldn't even blame EA here. DICE has been a bunch of clueless Swedes for years.
  16. That image is so slow to load. Feels like 56 kbps up in here. Cool though - did you recently play it or do you mean back in 2007? The steam version has no game breaking bugs for me that people say is the reason you must install the fan patch. Just the thing needs to be defibrillated back to life to get it going, plus resolution and texture tweaks or it's just a blurry mess.
  17. You could alter the power options of your SSD drive (device manager). If your unlucky, you might have to reinstall Windows. Had a similar issue with an old installation and new drives and mainboard, but I couldn't fix it with new drivers or different settings. No luck. Seem to be stuck with the issue as well. Not a big problem, as of yet though. Thanks for the reply.
  18. A bit late. Just checked and 48hrs from Aug 13th is over.
  19. Didn't take long - on the exact day I planned to back up data, Windows got corrupted and wouldn't boot nor restore. Have an SSD now, much faster but does an odd freeze after some time of idleness. Also, reinstalled Bloodlines, and got that working, finally, this time a slightly different fix from a slightly different problem than before. Fun. Now onto trying to save data, if possible.
  20. Same. Best way to actually see if gameplay is worth putting any time into without being subjected to people selling their goofy, obnoxious personalities.
  21. It had to be done. Steam makes being a slop dirt cheap.
  22. Oh that's right, I did pick up the GOG version on one of those sales. Good reminder. Definitely need to make the move to SSD, as I'm due for an HD crash one of these days.
  23. Got the Atari Vault so now I can lock myself inside a dark room with beer and cheetos, forever complaining about generic modern gaming. Also somewhat interested in getting the Steam controller as the tech is pretty cool, but eh, it's no keyboard n mouse, and the Xbox analogue sticks would probably be a better fit for the few games I'd want to use a controller with, i.e. the Atari Vault. So, probably just a waste of money/space but it does seem like a neat toy.
  24. Yeah, I'm not into fan created content. Even the few changes in the bare bones Bloodlines patch made little or no sense to me. Luckily the Steam version is bug free for me, as long as I'm able to get it running that is.. Since it works now, I'm kind of reluctant to do a fresh Windows install, it was that much of a hassle to get running, and when it finally worked it was random, so yeah, not much luck in replicating that.
