Yeah, the movement of the character is just too slow to play it as an all out shooter. I guess that has to do with the gaming engine itself? If your character, in this engine, moved as fast as real FPS, I could imagine it being very crazy and sloppy. I guess it's about the best that it can be done, without tearing it down and rebuilding the mechanics.

True enough. Funnily though, with the games bland textures, the dirty environments look a lot better than the few clean ones do.

I just got further into the main story and lol..Mathew Perry's voice work is some of the worst I've ever heard in gaming history. I guess the idea was to bring more life into the characters by adding Chandler Bing, but it failed hard and that should've been picked up by the team at the beginning of the session. Ignoring that, though, a lot of quests and decision making opportunities are opening up and so the game looks like it's going to be getting fun again. And oh, as I thought, I just added +1 points to my Luck and I'm pretty deadly with Guns now. I don't really see why Luck should play such a huge factor in hitting/damaging a target when your actual gun skill is already so high, but ok.

No..I'd just prefer something that didn't immediatly scream "STILTED CHARACTER/DIALOGUE". A good voice actor pushes the story on their own. I find myself clicking through most of the New Vegas dialogue. It's just poorly done. Maybe this is an unfair comparison since Obsidian had more to handle since NV is such a big game, but look at Bloodlines, that's how it's done.

Really? I'm one-shotting Deathclaws! And I haven't even found/bought the worst weapon yet! I think the weapons is one of New Vegas greatest strengths. Powerful, imaginative, well-balanced, good looking, varied, weighty, fun. Well, in comparison to F3...I was murdering everything in sight from the beginning. My guns are a 90 right now and Deathclaws are f'n me in the A. I think my criticals/luck is average though and its what's keeping me down.

I finally got the game and it's been pretty fun. It feels like a better realized game than F3 so far. Pros - Environments have more identity and aren't all cut from the same cloth as F3. - Exploring is better because of said environments. - Sound design is improved. - Less amounts of clutter, fewer items, fewer ammo(but more guns). - Quests are more involved, and there's more of them. - A better sense of importance(for lack of a better word), and at the same time the game doesn't take itself too seriously. - Larger scope of choices through a bigger variety of factions. - Pretty useful companions. Cons - Voice acting is still pretty boring. - Dialogue/story telling isn't that great. - Poor framerate. - Inner corridors tend to resemble mazes and there's little payoff. - Guns feel a bit underpowered. - Pipboy light is too saturated and ugly. - Still not a fan of Karma. - Radio gets to be almost annoying. - Slightly buggy, but that doesn't bother me.

That stuff looks minor. If you're having fun with the game, those type things shouldn't really bring it down, unless you're the type to nitpick. The last one was kind of funny though.

The quality of video games has declined over the past 10 years.

No, it won't be a problem if I recall correctly. Strange bug, are you using Qwinn's Planescape: Torment Fixpack? If not, I highly recommend it. Also take a look at the other mods too. Eh, seems I can't get the "Fix" mod to install. It keeps giving me errors. How annoying..everytime I start to get immersed in this game I have to quit. -

Thanks for the reply. I'll try that mod. I'm using several mods off this fully modded blog site someone posted. The widescreen mod is great. Using Ghostdog's UI, Ultimate Fix pack(possibly the same one you posted, not sure yet) and Unfinished Business as well. -

I don't know where else to put this but since this is an old games thread, and everyone here seems to have played PS:T. I'm getting a bug that turns the iron pry bar found on the 3rd floor of the Mortuary into a mace when I equip it - so I can't use the iron bar to crack open anything. Is this a known issue and is it much of a problem, i.e. going to make me miss XP points or an item or keep me from leaving, etc? -

There's just too many games out where every company is trying to make money off of what everyone else is doing. Too many sequels of the same game and too many sequels of the same games that copy the other guy's games. Most games are just redundant, with the tiniest gameplay or feature enhancements. I just installed PS:T for the first time, and even though 99% of the dialogue isn't voiced, the characters have so much more character in them than any game of today. It seems story telling is pretty much a lost art. Vampire:Bloodlines is about the only more modern game that had truly great dialogue, that I can really remember, and the game is replayable as hell because of it. Mass Effect 2 was presented really well, but it was so flashy, the story and characters leave very little lasting effect. Everything is just too immediate and in your face nowadays. Boring.. -
Glad you guys and gals are having fun. I'll pick up the game sometime in the future, it's fun enough just reading peoples' experiences with it.

I wish I would've waited and not got Bethesda's Fallout 3, and instead chose Obsidian's. I'm sure Obsidian's take will be better but, after I beat Fallout 3, I really couldn't get back into that type gameplay to do much of a second playthrough. Unless New Vegas is just so much better, but it's probably not different enough for me to get it. Oh wells, I'll just wait for the user reviews on this mofo board.

You come across as a tool in most of your posts.

I didn't play the first one since I don't have a 360. The sequel comes out on PC/PS3 so I'll be able to see if it's fun like the other's have posted. The whole custom weapon thing has me interested.

Dead Rising 2, Fallout Vegas maybe... Nothing else really. I'll probably pick up Alpha Protocol at some point. Just looking for something different. I'm going to install Planescape after I get back from a trip, so that will be cool since I've never played it before and it's supposed to be the ****.

Seems kinda awesome. -
Well it's boring to me. Open endedness is overrated as hell. I didn't come close to finishing GTA IV. I just played the Mafia 2 demo and the controls are definetly better than GTA IV on PC but there just wasn't much else to it other than the 50's skin and possibly a better story.
-
I love the gangster genre and the 50s but I'm pretty tired of the GTA type games. I'm assuming that's all this is, but with a tighter narrative? Basically, I think the world looks nice, but the gameplay just bores me by looking at it.

Dead Rising 2, for PC. Seems like a fun game to screw around in and cause havoc.

Nice vid.. looks like I'm gonna have to reinstall the first one and redownload the updates and play it again. It's funny what hype can do, but these folks behind the Witcher seem to have integrity behind them enough to make a pretty unique game.
