Hi everyone. While this forum contains a lot of interesting builds, I noticed that a blantant majority of them dump resolve. With the exception of one or another paladin or barbarian all of them have minimum resolve. Is resolve really such a bad stat or does it only work with standard builds while the interesting, exciting ones need to minimize it? I thought maybe we could start collecting some exciting builds that don't dump resolve. Mind you, I'm not limiting this to builds with maximum resolve ... just NOT single digit resolve values. What do you say?

Ydwin/Ydwen (spoiler?)
Stargazer55 replied to tid242's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
In fact, MANY people in our own world are named after saints (using variant spellings) without sharing any characteristics with that particular saint. They bear their name because of fashion or their parents liking the sound of it. I remember when I was in high school a lot of girls were called Katherine, Katrin, Caterina, etc. One day a teacher came in and asked them if they even knew they were named after a holy woman who was tortured to death in ancient rome. They looked at him in pure shock. So, what I'm trying to say is: Naming Ydwin after a saint (using a variant spelling) makes the world Eora with its history and languages feel very much believable and alive ... at least in my eyes and ears. -
Romance

I think the most important thing is to have a romance plot that fits with the overall story and tone of the game. Planescape Torment's romances were sad and heartbreaking, they showed how love can make or break a human being. In Mass Effect the romances were sweet and heartwarming, almost like Star Trek episode. (Yes, I liked them, sue me). In Dragon Age: Origins the romances were epic and tragic, like in some grand tale. In NWN: Hordes of the Underdark the romances were fierce and emotional. So ... what I'm trying to say is: the most important thing is that the romance plot is in tune with the general mood of the story. At least in my opinion. -
What even is a "real" tank? This is no MMO, there is no such thing as forcing enemies to attack a certain character ... and did I mention that it is no MMO? I love characters that work like fighters/paladins/rangers in BG, i.e. tough combattants who protect casters while at the same time dishing out solid melee damage. The beautiful thing about PoE is that you are not limited to the above mentioned classes to fill that role. I love my sturdy melee druid to pieces (not calling her a tank though, as this is not WoW).

It's easy... Island aumaua rogue using ruffian weapons and 1h style, wearing padded armor, with eye patch and an amulet. You start the fight with Fellstroke and Runner's Wounding Shot, then switch to Bittercut/Purgatory (in 3rd slot you can keep Bleak Fang/Azureith's Stiletto or Silver Flash - not sure what damage bonuses apply to the procs, but it would be interesting if they can benefit from deathblows). I tried something like that and it sucked. What did I do wrong? Should I have done dual wield? Better stat distribution (I didn't min max). Is the third weapon slot the key (I played orlan because ... fuuuurrrr).

The highest requirement I've seen was 20, somewhere late in the game. My recent character started with Per 14, Int 15, Res 15 and was able to pass every conversation check. Yes, some required putting on a certain item, getting a certain rest bonus and (once or twice) eating a certain delicacy but all in all it was no trouble. I would say that all stats are equally easy/hard to raise. You can get +3 by selecting the appropriate room at the inn, +2 to +4 from items, +2 from food and (if all else fails) +2 from a prostitute at the brothel. In other words: As long as don't dump one of the mental stats, you'll be fine. Don't let the min-maxers, steam guide authors and self-proclaimed Youtube experts tell you otherwise.

Okay, do you think this party might work? Myself (front line druid, weapon/shield, not as tough as Hiravias, though, because I can't squeeze out more than CON 8 ) Kana (front line, weapon/shield) Edér (front line, two-handed weapon) ... maybe he'll be swapped for Devil/Zahua/Menhea Pallegina (back row, blunderbuss and missiles, 2nd set weapon/shield in case the back row needs protection) Sagani (back row, hunting bow) + Itumaak (front line) Aloth (back row, implements and Minor Blights)
