  1. I guess I got away from it for two reasons. First it's just a habit. When you are doing it you want to continue doing it. When you're not doing it, it gets difficult to get back into. When I was lifting regularly I was spending 10-14 hours a day either sitting in a cubicle or commuting back and forth to work. So I really needed it as exercise & stress relief. Now that I'm self employed so to speak I can spend more time doing work outside the house and I don't miss out on the exercise. Plus when I was going to an office everyday the gym was right there and convenient. The nearest gym to me now is a hell of a long drive. So instead of weights I lift firewood, repair fences, carry fertilizer/feed/seed bags and instead of running I push a lawn mower & weed whacker.
  2. Those were great trucks. I wish Ford had never stopped making them. I used to have on myself.
  3. Rather than pull stumps which is hard work, I dug out around them, packed the trenches with split kindling, doused the suckers with gas and lit them up. Stumps - 0, Me -1.
  4. Another week, another heartbreaking loss for the Pewter Pirates. I hate Sundays!
  5. I don't lift or run any more. I used all through my military service (obviously) and after. I got away from it and now that I have extra hardware in my legs I really can't. But I am vary active and spend almost all of my free time doing outdoors stuff like hunting, fishing, farming (sort of) and, like this weekend, cutting and moving trees. I think I'm in pretty good shape for my age. I don't eat junk food and I don't drink like I used to.
  6. Don't blame us... the Brits started this one. We just commercialized the hell out of it.
  7. The sixers got on them 19-0 to start and the Heat never led. The score made it look close but the highlights on ESPN didn't.
  8. Anyone who comes to my place would have to be desperate indeed. i live at the end of a loooong dirt road.
  9. Working on the house this weekend. I'm going to start clearing some trees to make a pasture. I'm going to try cutting my own fence posts from the felled trees. I've never done anything like that before. Should be interesting. It would definitely be efficient. Whatever is left over I'll split for firewood. I try not to waste if I can help it.
  10. Sixers pummel the Heat! Hahahahaha!
  11. I guess I can really start watching football now!
  12. Wow, great day for Red Sox nation, and certain cat loving & rodent loving board members! One thing about this season, the best team did indeed win.
  13. I just re-read my OP with all my predictions. I suck at baseball prognostication!
  14. Oh they don't replace everyone, but do do replace the management!
  15. It was no surprise, the knew thew were screwing everyone: http://investigations.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/10/29/21222195-obama-administration-knew-millions-could-not-keep-their-health-insurance?lite
  16. Bah, arguing the government needs to be reduced in size is like climbing a greased fire pole these days. About 60% of Americans want the government to be their mother & father and take care of them. But it can't be that. All it can be is their servant or their master. And they have elected to give up their freedom a little at a time to the latter. I'm sick at what I see in the news everyday. And what i read from the Americans on this forum and others like it. I am beginning to think the libertarian argument is lost, and real liberty will soon be lost with it. I know i won't live to see it though. They will have to kill me when the time comes. As for the topic at hand, while the President may not order everything that is done in his name, do not kid yourself that he is unaware of most of it. And don't forget, the bureaucrats who DO implement policy are picked by him to carry out his agenda. It all goes back to the top.
  17. I seriously doubt he had any input into the internal operations of the air force academy. However, I know there is no way the spying happened without his knowledge. He is briefed everyday and told of the sources of information. There is just, no way he was unaware. Just like the health care debacle. Millions of people are losing their insurance and not only did he know all the way back in 2010, it was by design. But he keeps having Jay Carney plead ignorance. Same thing with the website. They were briefed well ahead what was going to happen.
  18. Thanks guys. I'm not terribly worried about it. I've made some inquiries at the company I worked for before this. i think they would be favorable to having me back if there is an opening. One important rule about the workplace. No matter how miserable a place is to work, don't complain to management (exception in the case of discrimination & illegality) and don't air out your grievances when you leave. Shake everyone's hand, tell them how much you'll miss them and how great it was to work with them. Even if it's a lie. Hell, especially if it's a lie. Clearing the air will rectify nothing and just leave a bad memory of you. But Crown Castle wasn't like that. I only left to work for myself.
  19. Yes, it's a thing. And it looks like I'm going to be hosting my lesbian friend and her gf for sunday at least. Simply because they don't want to be around my friends ex I just can't help but see endless possibilities for how that situation might turn out Calax. If you could make something happen there you will have officially knocked Ros off his throne as the party king of this forum!
  20. All my partners voted to accept the buyout. I did too but I don't know how I feel about it. This is my third attempt to start a business and the first time I didn't go it alone. Its the only one i'd call successful in that I'm walking away with more than I started with and made a living off of it while I had it. But I wanted more than this. I wanted to build it into something. But the cold realities are he had no assets other than customers and therefore no means to expand. And the bulk of our customers were municipalities and they only came to us because we were the cheapest because we underpriced our labor. It was not a sustainable model I guess. So I've got a year of so of consulting work in front of me, then I'll be looking for work. But I can't complain. Being out of work with money in the bank is better than being broke. So I guess I'll pour a drink and toast what might have been... and then watch Hell on Wheels or something.
  21. With two games to go, both in Boston, I wouldn't call it a lock but it's the next best thing to it.
  22. Today I am drinking a fine 9 year old Kentucky bourbon. Three fingers in a highball with ice. I just poured my third glass
  23. The Patriot Act is what has damaged this country. I blame him for not appealing it, but it existed before he got in office. The guy couldn't even get an assault weapons ban to go through after Sandy Hook, he's no mastermind of political power. The only other thing he even has going on is the health care system, and that is totally overblown as an issue. I also am not going after Bush about the Patriot Act. It was a response to a terrible incident. It just shouldn't be a permanent measure. Do you know why we (speaking for all gun owners here) will not tolerate a "reasonable" gun control bill to pass? Because there ultimate goal is to take every gun away from us. That is why we will fight every single one tooth and nail no matter how "reasonable" it sounds. As for the Patriot Act, every member of Congress who voted for that should have been dragged out of the Capitol and the end of a rope. The day that passed is one of the darker days in our history. More so for the way it is being used against us today.
  24. No Wals, he is not motivated to achieve public good He is motivated to advance an ideological agenda. If we have ever had a president who actually gave a damn about the public good I sure couldn't name him. What Obama wants is to create a permanent underclass that can be made dependent on government handouts and can then be exploited for political purposes and ensure electoral victories for the left. Case in point, his next "big thing" will be immigration reform. Or in other words amnesty and citizenship for illegals. If I were congress, and I offered him a bill for signature that gave him amnesty and instant citizenship for every illegal immigrant in the country with the only caveat that they would not be permitted to vote, do you think he'd sign it? No, he would not because he doesn't give a f--k about them except how they can be used for electora; proposes. Not only has he not cancelled the surveillance programs he's using them to spy on his own people n now. He's spying on reporters, raiding their homes, seizing their notes. He has the IRS persecuting his political enemies, especially the Tea Party. He has practically turned them into his own secret police and to date, despite being caught red handed at it, there has not been a single firing or resignation. He's been caught spying on the leaders of Brazil & Germany and his administrations response has been the height of arrogance. And that is not even getting into the domestic "data mining" that is going on right here at home. Instead of Big Brother we have Barack Obama watching us. His DHS puts out a memo stating them me and people like me, veterans and patriots, were likely terrorists deserving of special scrutiny by the police. Meanwhile he refuses to call actual terrorists what they are. He sat on his ass and watched an embassy get sacked and ambassador and his security staff get murdered by people he won't call terrorists and then blames, arrests and imprisons an American citizen who had nothing at all to do with it. Then he stonewalls the investigations and threatens everyone who knew anything about testifying. He wants to negotiate with Iran and refuses to negotiate with his own countrymen when it came to the budget. He has certainly made enemies, and most of them are right here. And I can happily count myself among them. I would not piss on that despicable man if he were on fire. Everything I've listed is true and while he may not be the one responsible for doing it all, it was all done in his name and 95% of it with his personal approval.
