European parliament grants itself Ipads to all its members

http://www.techinfospotlight.com/2010/05/a...for-apple-ipad/ Taxpayers will pay for this of course. Do you wanna know how much it will cost for each MP to download/stream each GigaByte? Me neither. -
Let me do that for you - you can't have one currency and twenty-odd different monetary policies, just like you can't have an automobile moving in the same direction with twenty-odd steering wheels. Thank you. I knew that it was somehow a too simplistic idea.

That was a bit...unexpected

Oh, i forgot. No federal tax should be levied from the individual to the EU. It should have a separate charter in the constitution. The EU should be funded by the governments in the member states.
-
My opinions: - Euro: should stay but in a completely different form, but with each country having their own monetary policy. This means that while the member states trade with the Euro with each other and even price according to euro domestically, the prices in each country is still reflected to the local currency in form of price index. There would not be any drachmas for practical use in any other way than to define pricing. Greece can for example devaluate for all that it cares within its borders, and its value against the euro would plummet. No other countries would be affected by it, and the ordinary greek wouldn't afford to import anything, but tourists and exporting industry would boom. Maybe there's a big flaw there, but i am too lazy to pick it out. - Power: The commission should be abolished with the EU-presidency and Foreign minister. No common standing army either. The parliament should stay and be able to veto anything that the european council of ministers decides. There should also be a european constitution where the powers of the parliament, council and states are clearly defined. Everyone in the seat of power in the parliament and council are elected through the democratic process. The supreme court, or european court, will work as the last protector when the council, parliament or soverign state implements laws that go against the charter of human rights against the individual. Corporations will be defined as a corporate entity and not individuals in the eyes of the law. The emphasis of the courts, councils and parliament should be on human rights, liberty, and free commerce between the member states. Back to work.

I'd send them home for having an awful taste in music. So they learn that they have to adopt to the wishes of authority. In what way is that beneficial in a society based on freedom of expression? That was a joke, you dunce. Jokes that are as bad as Dane Cook are not jokes

Considering it can't even get past the language filter here, I'm going to go out on a limb and say it isn't appropriate apparel for school. Feel free to wear it elsewhere. Students are learning how to act in a professional environment when they attend school. While there are some jobs out there where you can wear whatever you want, many employers have expectations of a dress code. Schools are not quite as strict as a major corporation, but it isn't a free for all. What kind of message do you think that teacher and the school give to the children by doing that? In what way is that beneficial for them? - "You may dress differently, but not too offensive" (a lot of room here to interpret what 'offensive' means) This actually goes back to free speech. Within what kind boundries are the students allow to express themselves? Where does the professional environment collide with the freedom of expression? Also, what is more important in your school-district? Critical thinking or submission, sorry, respect for authority?

Apparantly, someone tried to burn Vilks' house down last night. Windows were smashed, molotov ****tails were thrown in, and someone tried to put all the curtains on fire. Still though, the house didn't burn down, since the fire was not substantial enough and burned out by itself. Vilks himself was not at the house while it happened. The police are investigating the matter as arson. More to come.

But what if the students wore t-shirts of Cradle of Filth's "Jesus is a c***"? For them, the t-shirt represents the band and the music that they love. If you demand them to change t-shirts or wear them inside out, what are do you expect them to learn from that?

The Poet vs. Prophet.

That's what she said. Now she has learned to enjoy it.

Yeah, pretty much. "Being nice" can be very lofty, and is up to a lot of interpretation.
-
Because it's your obligation as a human being to be nice to other people. That is a personal philosophy that i wish that many would follow, but alas not many do. That is why there is a system of laws to begin with. But since it is a personal framework for social conduct, it can not be made mandatory to others. Honestly, have you even worked in the private sector? And i do not mean the local supermarket, i am talking about multinational and global coorperations here. There you can most easily see the manifestation of this. You would be surprised how fast this obligation is thrown out of the window. The only obligation to be nice (mostly to customers) is in the self interest of the person/company to get more money/power/influence. Not by a sense of altruism.

A game influenced by the ideas of Nietzsche
Meshugger replied to Meshugger's topic in Computer and Console
Thanks for the replies everyone. Some of my fears seems have been true though, even partially so. I can live with superficial references to philosophy as long as they are not silly, same with judeochristian mysticism. But a 45-60 minute cutscene, in one sitting? Yikes! How intertwined are the games with each other? Is it a direct story line that continues like a red line, or are they simply three separate games that only share the same mythos or universe? -

I think it the first time a single song has got me interested in a game. -
Well, not just one game. But a trilogy of them: Xenosaga I: Der Wille zur Macht (The Will to Power) Xenosaga II: Jenseits von Gut und B

No, he was sent to the doctor. As the article points out, several of the people in lecture hall and later on facebook celibrated that "they had stopped him". According to the same article as well, it seems like swedish media doesn't want to stand by his side either, since they think that he was a provocateur and had to face the consequences. Even the head of the swedish publicist-beauro agrees that it is not a threat to free press or speech. Another article also points out that during the skinhead-phase of the 90's, everyone including politicians, journalists and swedes in general joined together on to denounce racism. Everyone knew who the victim(s) were. However in this case, the "victim(s)" are the wrongdoers themselves.

What's is this "muslim" race that you all are talking about? I am talking about a belief system and culture here.
