I'm not sure what you refer to as "female super model", but when it comes to a hooded rogue, there can be *plenty* of personality in the portrait. But ... but ... it doesn't jiggle. -

Note that the debit payment system is location-specific. Last time I checked, debit wasn't offered by Steam in germany (only indirectly via paypal). I'll take another look today just to go sure. EDIT: Did a quick check... yupp... only paypal if you want to pay via debit. Steam doesn't like germans. -

Yeah even playing games like Skyrim I can't make myself use the mods that make your characters look like super models and such. I always go for a little more realism. I don't mind them looking good, but with dirty skin, realistic colored hair and eyes, and hair styles that don't look like they just came out of a salon. Let's be totally honest here: Skyrim character models just looked totally alien and I rather play as a supermodel than those uncanny-valley abominations of Skyrim. -

So does Poland and yet almost everyone here own either a credit or debit card - both of which you can use for paying on GOG (I actually pay with my debit card, not a credit card, if you want to know details like that). Banks give you a card to the account, regardless if you want it or not, it's automatic. It's the first time I hear someone saying that cards are not popular in Germany and every German I know of has a card (probably because they travel a lot?) - that's why I'm surprised. But never mind me Debit and credit cards are not the same. Every german has a debit card. But definitely not everyone has a credit card. I don't know why this is but this is how we roll. But yes, people that travel a lot will have one, simply because cc is the default payment in hotels. I haven't checked out GoG's payment methods yet. If they actually offer debit, then that will be my first choice obviously (3 hours to go, btw). -

Believe it or not; but credit cards are not as common as in other countries here in germany. This is because germany has a pretty powerful direct debit transfer system for national transactions. That makes having a credit card only important if you want to do international purchases. Ebay, Amazon and all major international companies also allow debit entry here, so that's even less of a reason to have a credit card. I don't get why Steam hasn't upgraded their service with that option yet, considering even Blizzard offers debit entry for WoW) Also with the recent law changes of EU-wide banking which makes direct transfers within the EU free of charge, the incentive to have a credit card gets even weaker. I won't sign up on paysafecard just for a single game if I have a steam account already anyway, even if GoG is better. Paypal is an option, though. -

You guys know that metacritic doesn't consider user-scores that stroll too far from the average score, right? So 0 and 1 votings will get ignored in the meta score. That's why it's a "meta" score and not an "average" score after all. -
I disagree with all of the points mentioned. I think Obsidian did a phenomenal job with this KS. But just to go into more detail why I think so: 1) Backers already got the game much cheaper than any regular customer plus all the additional benefits. You got to experience and be part in the backer beta WAY before previewers and streamers got a hold of this game. I don't get the butthurt about reviewers and media-representatives getting the game some days early. It's essential to get day-1 media coverage. We, as the customers, benefit from that. Denying Obsidian the possibility to send out preview versions to media would in the end just hurt everyone, as day-1 sales are important. Stop being so entitled just because you backed this when it was still a high-risk operation. You definitely got your money's worth already. 2) Community management has been decent. Come on, which company has not only the devs but also topic-experts come to the forums personally? We got questions answered directly by the professionals, not through a shady community representative that got his intel second hand. If anything, that's a good thing, not a bad one. I appreciated getting tech info directly from the artists and programmers, not from a community manager who has no idea what he is talking about. 3) You answered this yourself: it's just that some backers felt like they are more than they actually are. You are micro investors. Not shareholders, not pre-orders. You are not entitled to have a say in any decision if it wasn't part of your pledge. Obsidian cared and considered the forum feedback even if they weren't forced to by contract. Be happy it turned out like this. It could have gone way different. I consider Obsidian's effort on PoE as a rolemodel for how a kickstarter project should look like. Was it perfect? No, but in the end, both sides - the consumer and the developer - won big time and that's what matters.

I tried ironman mode in my first XCOM playthrough. All was good until the almighty teleport bug screwed my group. So, on topic: I won't play ironman on my first playthrough. Simply because bugs happen on release version and I would hate to be screwed over by a bug. I'll play ironman a couple of patches in. However, PotD it will be on my first play.

So it's mostly a "soft" ironman mode that allows me to just copy and paste the autosave file in some other folder to effectively cheat the system? Disappointing, but I can see why it would have been difficult to implement otherwise. Even the Ironman mode in XCOM that saved every game round wasn't cheating-proof (if you miss a critical shot, just Ctrl+alt+del out of the game and reload).

I will pickup steam for the simple fact that I can buy steam credit at the local grocery store. With GoG, I need to have a credit card which is not that common here in germany. -
Think about this from a game-design and writer's point of view: When you write a dialogue and write the default content, you will encounter certain lines or situations that make only sense for a male lead. In that case, you take up the tag and write special lines for the female alternative. So whenever you do that, you are basicly "reminded" of that possibility to add more RP-specific lines. So in a way, the need to rewrite certain dialogues for the female point of view keeps the writer constantly aware of the possibility to add gender-specific choices. Which leads to two possible outcomes: 1) the writer gets annoyed by it and leaves it at the absolute minimum, keeping everything unisex 2) the writer gets inspired by it and adds new options No matter what; if the female dialogue is the extra and the male is the default, then chances are you will get more options playing female. Simply because the male choice is mostly the unisex choice.

Please let's not move this discussion towards gender equality. This was absolutely not the point of this thread. This thread was about roleplaying options. I've personally found it interesting that the female text is basicly "extra" in the code. Again, not from the gender equality side of things, but from a pragmatical point of view: This means, if you play a female character, you basicly have special flavour text that deviates from the default. I find that extremely interesting, as it means that basicly, female characters get more tailored RP content, whereas male characters only get the generic default lines.

Well, that's pretty much what I expected. And honestly, I don't even blame them for that. We got the awesome character trait reputation AND attribute/skill based responses. And those are already plenty (judging from the BB). I don't think it would be fair to blame them if they haven't written extra dialogue for every possible combination of gender/race/skills/attributes/reputation. So, yeah, umm, at least that means I can freely play what I want. But it might be an option for expansions to add when PoE becomes a success.

Blame the decision-making process that made Perception useless for Wizards. Racial and Cultural bonuses. You can get Might up to 21 with an Aumaua with the right culture. no no you didnt understand mate, what iam saying is how they can have + 19 additional stats. when everyone else have 18 and the char u create has 18 aswell ( 15 + racial +2, culture + 1 ) There's a long tradition of companions in these types of games having ridiculously overinflated stats. I'd be disappointed if some the companions weren't cheating. Haha and then there were also characters with stat distributions that looked like someone forgot to add sidestats after the initial draft. Hello 10-in-four Edwin. Good thing he made up for the terrible stat distribution with a borderline cheating amulett. ... and then there were characters that were bad from the raw stat distribution, but became unstoppable killing machines when equipped with certain items. Hello Korgan with 18 DEX gloves... So I wouldn't value the initial stat distribution of NPCs that high. They probably get some story-boosts to certain attributes via user-restricted items.

I know we haven't seen much of the game yet except for the backer beta. But since streams are out, I think some people might know more about this (I still resisted watching the streams because I don't want to get spoilered): Do my race and gender choice matter in the game? I can see a heavy emphasis on the reputation scores (benevolent, clever, etc.) and attributes/skills, but are there also meaningful choices based on race and gender? For example, is it possible to select "flirty" choices depending on the gender of the NPC you're talking to? Or are the dialogues mostly indifferent of race/gender choice? I could imagine being a godlike could unlock some dialogue options here and there; but what about the "less conflict" races?

I have to say that, while at first I was against the endurance/health system, I can see it's benefits now and I'm glad that Obsidian didn't drop the idea after the initial feedback. It just fixes a couple of problems RPGs in the past had in an elegant way: 1) mistakes in battle being extremely punshing due to permadeath mechanics 2) mistakes in battle having absolutely no consequences due to characters magically being revived after the battle is over 3) Major plotholes caused by the existence of ressurection means. I call it the "Phoenix Downer" ... I think PoE found a sweet spot here, combining the auto-res mechanics of modern RPGs with the permadeath mechanics of CRPGs. Especially with an Ironman mode in place, it's a neccessity that there's a "soft death" mechanic in place.

I wonder why anyone would find swears in a medieval setting immersion-breaking. People in the middle-ages weren't exactly known for their politeness... You probably face more trouble today calling someone's mother a whore than you did, let's say, a thousand years ago.
