I believe Hurlshot has said he can't take anything with kids getting killed in it, perhaps I'm giving Mister Unicorn-dancing-on-a-Rainbow too much credit but I don't see how giving him a warning that violence against children happens in a movie makes him the equivalent of a fatass. It's not a big deal and will at most take 30 seconds out of your time, and if you can write long replies on an obscure video game forum you can sit through a 30 second viewer discretion warning.

But no, because some empathy-deprived **** on the internet are mad at a bunch of overdramatic misandrist **** on the internet, something that is as simple as a short freaking "may contain traces of rape" message becomes this huge deal to everyone because ****ing internet. Because mental trauma is a good enough reason to not go to jail if you killed someone, but it's not enough of a reason to put everyone through a bit of text they can safely ignore and doesn't even ****ing affect them in the slightest. To that I say, **** those people. And if they can't deal with that bit of text without getting triggered, maybe they shouldn't be the one throwing stones.

Trigger warnings would be extremely helpful in her recovery to get her to that point. Do you think trigger warnings can be narrowed down enough? Because the lists of things that require trigger warnings that come out of the community that typically pushes for them are long and vaguely defined and derived often using capricious and frivolous interpretations. For example rape is rape, but a "trace of rape" can be lots of things to lots of people. And to comb through something for any traces that may trigger somebody doesn't sound like a realistic task. Can you really track all aspects that may remind someone out there of something they've experienced?

It seems like practically speaking you can only cover the big things that are already covered by most content warnings like violence, sexual violence, etc. And for the rest content has to be checked by someone for a specific individual and their specific case.

snip snap

Call me crazy, but how the hell is a cop show with depictions of rape in any way "all-ages"?

It's a tangential issue, but I'm thinking that someone failed at their job there. I'm not against a "viewers discretion advised: contains depictions of XYZ" notice, but if something like that got an "all-ages" rating, it's not much of a stretch that they would have failed to add any such disclaimer as well. And conversely, I have trouble imagining how a show with a fictional rape depictions disclaimer may get an "all-ages" rating.

And yeah, the salient point here is the larger social stigma facing people with mental health problems. Hell even the phrase "mental problems" sounds somewhat dirty (cf. endocrine problems, cardiovascular problems, etc...).

Somehow my sarcasm and derision of the poor little dears being unable to read Titus Andronicus without needing therapy morphed into being against safety warnings and movie ratings huh? You never know where the conversational road will go around here. But the ride is entertaining.

I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiene"

Could be worse, we could follow you and post things people unrelated to us are doing that are wrong. I think some guy on the corner here was wearing a Nickelback shirt today.

Hold up guys, gotta get my TRIGGER list out for the day so I can cover every possible eventuality that I, or anyone else on the planet, may or may not have issues with:

Sure. If you can get a CAT scan to show that your brain is actually damaged and reacts to each and every of those stimuli in certain, predictable and measurable ways, I'd guess you'd have the full support of the medical community.

I mean, they've been using CAT scans to screen PTSD-afflicted vets in the US for, what, a decade now? You don't believe in magnets either?

I have always found it quite ironic how biblical movies get either 16/18+ rating or they have censored some of the content from the bible, make it to be more fitting for younger audiences, but still they make people start reading bible as soon as they can read (ages 6-8 ) (although these days they only give New Testament for elementary school students before they go in confirmation school at age 15 [Finnish Lutheran tradition where people go in camp like thing to learn about Lutheran faith and become full members of Church]).

I understand that people don't want to watch certain type of content for multitude of reason, but I wonder why people just don't read reviews for movies or plays before they go to watch them instead of asking complex lists of content descriptions. I have pondered if such behavior is because of new media, where media companies try to analyze their content in order to create word clouds and similar things to offer additional content for their users and users have adopted use of these content lists so thoroughly that they don't only look new content to consume but also content that they don't want to consume and therefore they disdain services/products/productions/etc. that don't have them.

Not really, it's the same theme. Though I suppose there's a joke here about recursive triggers.

Wait, every single TRIGGER issue has a doctors note too? Otherwise were just pissing into the wind.

I guess that depends on how you define UPPERCASE TRIGGER. If you mean something like your reaction to this discussion, I don't think so. On the other hand, my understanding is that depictions of rape can cause a rape victim's PTSD to lowercase trigger. I don't know how reliably and consistently though, and there's not much research on it as far as I'm aware. Then again, smoking doesn't reliably cause cancer 100% of the time, but that's no reason not to have warnings on ciggy packs -- it's just that someone[who?] agreed that the risk was significant enough to warrant those notices.

No one's saying that the A-Team should include a TRIGGER WARNING: MAY CONTAIN BLACK VANS because it may be problematic for people who were once molested in a black van. That's rather absurd and unfeasible, and by beating on that straw man, you're kinda falling into the same hysterics as the "snowflakes" you think you're poking fun at.

Who are we to decide which mental trauma is worthy and which is not? Why just yesterday Harry Styles got groped just like I was groped. What if I cant go to his concerts anymore? Did you ever think of that?

BTW, every time one of you turns around and uses TRIGGERED as an insult, an irony meter explodes somewhere. Probably also mentally scars someone.
