Politics - Episode 9: The Lurking Fear

Also, because Trump mentioned it, it's not true that the counter-protesters didn't have a permit - they did.

Plus, to say something I've said many times in this thread, the protesters on Friday were not peaceful - they attacked peaceful counter protesters without provocation while chanting Nazi phrases. I'm very curious why Trump thought they were peaceful (I suspect that he confused the Alt-Right Nazis and the UVA Students who were standing around the statue before they were swarmed with fire wielding ****s).

That's socialism 101.

It's basically any extremism - communist or fascist. It's just that the alt-right are a bit better at the polite robbery of rights, property and liberty - and using their violent supporters more indirectly than anti-fa groups etc.

Fortune favors the bald.

Even the Russians, according to some reports, don't have a very good grasp on it, judging from Kuznetsov's track record.

They have a poor grasp on it, and I don't think even the russians would claim the Kuznetsov to be a successful ship. When it sailed to Syria it was the other big ship (Pyotr Veliky) that was far more significant though ignored by the media, and the Kuznetsov was there just for training and evaluation even after all its theoretical time in service. They did have the unique problem of the Black Sea transit and the Montreux Convention barring aircraft carriers though, so it had to be designed oddly so they could claim it wasn't an actual carrier.

BLM should definitely do more to distance themselves from extremism, but their message is pretty dang tame compared to Neo-nazis and the KKK.

Here is a look at what they say they stand for: http://blacklivesmatter.com/guiding-principles/

As I said, not exactly crazy stuff. Now when that message gets overridden by violence and vandalism, they need to respond better. Just like I want to see Trump respond better.

Only problem is without actions they are just words. They discussed here how Hitler was perceived still as one way bc of what he SAID but his actions showed something completely different. Until the words and actions line up, actions speak louder than words.

Also I agree it's a slippery slope bc while it's ok and feels right to **** up a Nazi/KKK member, by the same standard the same outrage and actions directed at them should also be directed towards anyone who has said "death to whitey/cops/Muslims/Christian's/etc".

Hate is hate.

At least whoever came up with PC ideology was smart enough to impliment a "victimhood" and tried to change the meaning of racism to give themselves a way to do the same actions and intent without the penalties.

I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiene"

Funniest thing about that spiel he gave was saying that he needed to wait for facts before speaking.

Woah, talk about pouring gasoline on fire!

Baltimore removes Confederate statues (CNN)

Just like ISIS. Somehow. They're moving some to cemeteries for the rebel dead, so BFD.

I don't think ISIS moved anything to cemetaries for the rebel dead? They pretty much destroyed them outright.

The fate of those statues seems unclear, some say that they might put them in cemetaries and one councilor wants to destroy them outright.

You can just feel the economic anxiety that led to Trump being elected oozing through their pores.

same as a lot of black people voted for Obama just because he is black...

That argument doesn't really work because every other president has been white. Unless I'm misunderstanding your point.

I know but am seeing that reaction by some as if they compare well. Sticking them in cemeteries is the best.

The historical facts of the nazi state was that it was totalitarian; with the government controlling all industry even if they didn't formally own it as in the SU.

Controlling all industry isn't historical fact except from Goebbels 'total war' speech which was Feb '43 just after Stalingrad, from memory, and after which they were on a, well, total war footing. The UK had total governmental control of the economy far far more so than Germany up to that point- anything could be requisitioned, you made what you were told to, ration cards were in effect etc etc. That's why war production in Germany peaked not in 1940, 41, 42 or even 43 but in 1944 despite all the allied bombing and them starting to lose all their mineral resources plus wasting huge resources on dreadful return pie in the sky wunderwaffe; because up to 1943 companies had happily been producing luxury items and the like alongside the tanks and planes.

That's right, one of hitler's biggest strategic mistakes was not mobilizing for war until 1943. But Germany was a totalitarian dictatorship unlike Britain, thus could control anything at any time, war or not. He also prioritized supplying the Navy while his army was being destroyed in Russia, but so what?

"Moral indignation is a standard strategy for endowing the idiot with dignity." Marshall McLuhan
