My question is who's gonna be the white man who has to start suing and getting people fired because of racism and sexism?

 Its a good question because in most places that would apply but we handle these things apparently differently in  SA...the article was retracted and Huffington apologized ?

Is that sufficient in your view?

They handled it very professionally.

Tbh Thanks to this liberal sjw crap, I really wonder if they consciously know they doing the exact same thing that I grew up with here in the south about blacks and Mexicans.

Ann Ravel and Ellen Weintraub have to be two of the most evil people on the American left. I can't imagine anyone has done more so suppress free speech in this country or been in a position to do more. Except perhaps Obama when using the IRS as his "thought police". Those two are two of the three democrat appointed commissioners on the FEC. In the past they have tried to shut down web sites who they claim express political opinions (that they disagree with). Chief among those has been the Drudge Report which just links news articles from other sources rather than produce content on it's own. But if you look at what she is suggesting here they are not just looking to "regulate" news content but the posts of individual people posting in a political discussion thread. They could force Obsidian to no allow political discussions here in WoT for example. Especially if opinions are being expressed that are deemed "inappropriate" (meaning not left leaning).

That's why it's critical that there's a conservative Supreme Court.

Populism vs. Corporatism:

Most traditional conservatives reliably serve large corporate interests, and can be counted on to ignore the basic interests of middle- and working-class voters. This has been clear in the recent health care vote and on internet privacy legislation, and may also soon be obvious in the GOP’s tax reform efforts.

So true.

Then why do you support parliamentary democracy? ;)

I don't. I do support republican democracy with strict limitations placed on the powers granted to the body politic.

GD you a good person and a man of integrity but you have to attempt to see things in a more nuanced light or least realize sometimes what is needed to protect us is exactly what concerns you

For example in 2002 I remember was when I first became aware of the advanced interrogation techniques being used by the USA. I supported them at the time and I still feel they were effective but nowadays I would have to analyze the justification for them

For some the treatment of extrajudicial prisoners was considered unlawful and abhorrent, they could argue your point exactly :)

Yet they served a greater purpose at the time that was to protect the USA and its allies troops

Making America safe for wife beaters again: http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2017/04/17/silicon-valley-ceo-pleads-no-contest-to-abusing-his-wife-and-is-offered-a-deal-for-less-than-30-days-in-jail.html

The prosecutor in the case, Assistant District Attorney Steve Fein, described the plea deal to The Daily Beast as a fair outcome, noting that accessory after the fact is also a felony, though not a violent one that would place Gattani at risk of being deported back to his native India. Fein indicated that his boss, Santa Clara District Attorney Jeff Rosen, seeks to avoid such deportations.

Quote
“Political philosophers have often pointed out that in wartime, the citizen, the male citizen at least, loses one of his most basic rights, his right to life; and this has been true ever since the French Revolution and the invention of conscription, now an almost universally accepted principle. But these same philosophers have rarely noted that the citizen in question simultaneously loses another right, one just as basic and perhaps even more vital for his conception of himself as a civilized human being: the right not to kill.”

Quote

"The chancellor, the late chancellor, was only partly correct. He was obsolete. But so is the State, the entity he worshipped. Any state, entity, or ideology becomes obsolete when it stockpiles the wrong weapons: when it captures territories, but not minds; when it enslaves millions, but convinces nobody. When it is naked, yet puts on armor and calls it faith, while in the Eyes of God it has no faith at all. Any state, any entity, any ideology that fails to recognize the worth, the dignity, the rights of Man...that state is obsolete."

Love Steven Pinker.

I think you often see horrific "modes" of public engagement by people who are fundamentally well intentioned. But it's really hard to analyze what just is being done wrong, and how to correct it. Typically you just have to wait for people to burn enough bridges that they eventually learn the hard way and grow up. But it does help that people have these countervailing outlooks to help launch them on their way to a better mode of being.

Imo, you'll never sort through opposing arguments if you don't know how to properly engage. Watching the Berkley anti-fa just a few days ago is quite eye opening. Typically I'd see protest in history books and think they were largely made of the most well intentioned and noble people. But I'm starting to realize it's always the most spiteful and least productive people, that don't actually want to have the responsibility of ushering a better future. They revel in having a social currency that allows them to make demands.

Seriously though, if this is the best the American left has to offer, I am ashamed. Comrades, we used to be critical theorists with masterful analysis of capitalism and it's ills across multiple subjects, we were major contributors to sociology, Philosophy, economics, politics.... and THAT is all you got to offer?

Oh I don't know Ben. In some aspects they are splitting the uprights in terms of socialist thought. With few exceptions (all of them fairly recent) the socialist nations of the world have not been known for embracing or encouraging things like free speech or independent thought.

Very true, however, I'd argue that no matter what your political stance is, the criticism of capitalism from left winged theorists is spot on

Here is a little media bias on display. This article is from the San Diego newspaper: http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/military/the-intel/sd-me-gibill-tax-20170419-story.html

Now here is the same story from Stars and Stripes https://www.stripes.com/news/proposal-in-congress-would-require-servicemembers-to-pay-into-gi-bill-for-benefits-1.464199#.WPikaGe1uUm

To summarize there is a movement in the House Veterans Committee to ask military personnel who participate in the GI Bill to pay $2400 (probably $100 a month for two years) into the program. When I was in the service I participated in that plan. For me it was $100 a month for 12 months. After 9-11 they dropped the pay in apparently. The GI Bill is an outstanding benefit. It paid for my first 72 credit hours of the 127 I earned to get my degree. I was over half way done before I paid the first penny out of pocket.

Now, the San Diego Union Tribune went on at length about how terrible this is and how veterans groups are going to fight this new "tax on troops". But read the Stars and Stripes version and you'll see the San Diego paper never mentioned that it used to be a "pay in" benefit. That it currently limits the institutions you can use it at. That it is not transferable to survivors. The proposed changes by the HSoVA will change those things and pay out more money to boot. So yes, military members will have to pay more but they will get more. Why didn't that San Diego paper include that info? I don't know. I guess it didn't advance the narrative they wanted to tell.
