Oter2k Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 Just wanted to suggest something I feel is missing from most RPGs today, and something I know was discussed (post launch at least) with PoE1: one-handed swords as only weapon. No shield, no off-hand, and certainly no two-handed log of a weapon My reasoning is that if you look at most fantasy books (and movies), many of the characters opt for a one- to one-and-a-half (bastard?) handed swords, instead of wielding a huge lumbering claymore. This would be a master swordsman, who strikes with speed and precision, relies on parries and dodge (to some degree), though not neccessarily the "ninja" style of a rogue. Think in the lines of Al'Lan Mandragoran from the Wheel of Time. Linux ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
hilfazer Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 one-and-a-half (bastard?)Longsword. Wait... you're talking about fantasy. In this case, yeah, that would probably be a "bastard sword". This would be a master swordsman, who strikes with speed and precision, relies on parries and dodge (to some degree), though not neccessarily the "ninja" style of a rogue.Ninjas were not about combat. Vancian =/= per rest.
Leferd Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 Single wield one handed weapons (such as a sword) receive an accuracy bonus in PoE. 1 "Things are funny...are comedic, because they mix the real with the absurd." - Buzz Aldrin."P-O-T-A-T-O-E" - Dan Quayle
rjshae Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 A bonus to disengagement attacks with fast weapons would be a nice additional benefit. You have better control of your facing with a single-handed weapon and no shield, so you should be able to back out of combat more easily. Let that dagger-wielding rogue make hit and run attacks all over the battlefield. "It has just been discovered that research causes cancer in rats."
PK htiw klaw eriF Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 I believe it gets an accuracy bonus which translates into more crits if I understand the system. Not as useful as two-handers in practice, but that's because of the DT system. "Akiva Goldsman and Alex Kurtzman run the 21st century version of MK ULTRA." - majestic "you're a damned filthy lying robot and you deserve to die and burn in hell." - Bartimaeus "Without individual thinking you can't notice the plot holes." - InsaneCommander "Just feed off the suffering of gamers." - Malcador "You are calling my taste crap." -Hurlshort "thankfully it seems like the creators like Hungary less this time around." - Sarex "Don't forget the wakame, dumbass" -Keyrock "Are you trolling or just being inadvertently nonsensical?' -Pidesco "we have already been forced to admit you are at least human" - uuuhhii "I refuse to buy from non-woke businesses" - HoonDing "feral camels are now considered a pest" - Gorth "Melkathi is known to be an overly critical grumpy person" - Melkathi "Oddly enough Sanderson was a lot more direct despite being a Mormon" - Zoraptor "I found it greatly disturbing to scroll through my cartoon's halfing selection of genitalias." - Wormerine "I love cheese despite the pain and carnage." - ShadySands
teenparty Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 You could make very effective tanks/damage dealers in Tyranny with a one handed weapon. Almost every hit becomes a crit. A percentage of misses are retaliated. Bah! No fun!
draego Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 POE1 one handed builds were possible especially after the one handed talent change. I guess this post should be 'can you make one handed builds better than other builds' for POE2 because it was a viable choice.
molotov. Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 Introducing the HEMA in a RPG would make the fighter class much more enjoyable and one handed styles much more reliable. 1
Vizera Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 That was already a thing in poe, and will undoubtedly be introduced in poe2 as well. 1 handed was actually the best dps option for a while when poe was in beta.
