RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS

Pet peeve: why would they issue two different directions within 10 seconds of one another requiring you to walk ten feet, interact with an object, and then do the same with another object? Especially with a 3D HUD, they could just as easily have the quest giver tell you to do both things within the same sentence and let you carry it out to make it feel less like you're being told what to do. The last gameplay video had the same problem, rather than conveying information and letting the player preform the action, they have a voice over telling what to do at every little step along the way.

Edit: I thought you embedded this video:

The video does look interesting, but I can already sense your typical open world chores. Get to a new location, perform checklist activities to increase a value that will allow you to upgrade stuff, wait for the next main story event to happen.

That is pretty explicitly what the video is about, with the space station thing points and the planet viability.

What remains to be seen is whether the "chores" are enjoyable or at least entertaining, or simply variants of "gather 6543519347 more elfroot to upgrade our krogan tapestries". If it's MMO-lite garbage like that, I probably won't be able to finish it, much like Inquisition. Here's hoping they learned the lesson, though.

Considering that sandboxy open world garbage is all the rage right now I find that highly... unlikely.

It's just the way the big publishers are making their games these days. Analyze what sold well in the past years, create lists of buzz words describing these really successful (in terms of sales) games, pick the 10 highest matches, look which one of your studios fits the description most and have them produce a game with some hefty corporate interference.

And it is only going to become worse with the proliferation of fast and easy "big data" analysis tools.

No mind to think. No will to break. No voice to cry suffering.

Great, seeing Timo Tolkki in that video is sure as hell going to make me wander down the nostalgia lane tonight. Even had to look twice considering he looks a bit like Meat Loaf these days. :dancing:

Heh, if anyone has been consistently faceplanting from incorrectly reading or interpreting their "metrics" it's Bioware (Austin). You'd think they'd be the first to want to take conclusions gleaned from big data with a grain of salt.

DAI sold like hotcakes, received (critical) acclaim, but was equal parts loved and hated by players. I'm just hoping they have learned something from that, and aren't simply aiming for Mass Effect: Inquisition. Then again, lots of people would probably dig that, so perhaps not.

Just save some for the drought that will undoubtedly come (or the disappointment when a bunch of them turn out to suck)

So you can get such exciting upgrades for your Mak... Eh, Nomad as better shields, better boost or better armor. These cost as much as 120 elfroot. This is fantastic.

Yeah, my interest in ME: Andromeda started at around 0 due to ME3 (and no, not because of the ending) and DA:I (I like my MMOs with other people in it) but it's dipping into the negatives now...

Will be interesting to see what people (= you folks) have to say about it after release...might be more entertaining than the game itself to boot :p

Well thankfully I have pretty big backlog, but I have now real issues with what to buy now, and for what to wait until the sale. And also PoE 2 came into it... and I have to fund my Pathfinder RPG hobby as well :'(

I really can't remember when was the last time, when there was so much games up to my taste released in such a short time span *shrugs*

The only game which I own, and I am affraid that it would suck is Final Fantasy XV. For this reason, I have decided to not start the game, before most of the patches Tabata-san promised will be released.

On the other hand, ME1-style ammunition/heat management is back in the form of moddable heatsinks. For only 200 elfroot!

As for the controller-only previews, IIRC it was like that for previous games too, but I may be wrong. The ME games have always been rather console-centric anyway. Remember that they didn't even handle the ME1 port internally, they handed that to Demiurge.

Doesn't look that bad in the video.

No Man's Sky never looked bad or boring in their videos. The final product was both.

Regardless, I'd say those exo-vehicles are a step in the right direction, assuming its not a total pain to get them. Not that they would have been necessary if we could just, well, fly below the enforced minimum altitude like shown in past trailers. *cough*

No mind to think. No will to break. No voice to cry suffering.

No idea, i never bothered much about the game. I guess with more experience in game dev, you start to set your expectations more in line with reality and not hopes and dreams and hype. Therefore will be less likely disappointed.

When a construction project manager approaches you and tells you that he'll build something wonderful that's never been built before, answers "Oh just two okay houses" when asked about what his previous construction experience was and then replies with "Sure, why not!" when asked on details on how exactly does he plan to do that and what will this building contain, you don't need a lot of construction experience to tell that he's full of ****.

It still astounds me that the opposite applies to videogames.
