And there is Madeleine Albright that thinks the sanctions placed on Iraq after the Gulf War that has killed 3.3 million people (half a million, or more, of which were children) is... And I quote... "We think the price is worth it." The price of punishing a dictator is worth 3.3 million lives... Children and all. May have been an Einstein, or a Bach, or a DaVinci in there, but we had to spank Saddam for being naughty. Makes you wonder if his evil deeds would have had similar death tolls... Maybe, maybe not. However, we do know what our interference cost the world.

Stupid, nut jobs, morally bankrupt, etc are things that transcend party lines. They are things almost every human is guilty of at times or capable of. To think one political party is without moral or intellectual faults is something that defies logic to the point of indoctrination. Humans are human no matter their political ideology, and we are capable of truly horrific things.

 

Another observation: the statement that "more people have died in the name of God than for any other reason" is pretty true. However in the past 100 years... I give you Mao (49-79 MILLION), Stalin (56-62 MILLION), and Hitler (about 50 MILLION). They killed more people than is truly believable. Hitler could be argued as being somewhat religious, but WW2 killed a lot more people than just the Jewish people of the time. All 3 have one important thing in common: a centralized government run by psychotic despots. Those governments arent the same, but perhaps their isn't a "right" way to build a centralized government. Fascism, Communism, Monarchy, Theocracy, etc. it doesn't matter... centralized power means it only takes one person to tip the dominos. It is only a matter of time before some powerful country really does vote in another person of these 3's moral caliber into an office without any checks and balances. Woe to the world when it occurs. Even our founding fathers believed Government to be a necessary evil, and today... In our hubris, we think their ideas antiquated. It's sad.

 

Adding those 3 dictators death tolls together is half or more of the population of the US. Food for thought.

 

That's my issue with Socialism. Well, communism didn't work because they did it wrong. We will do it right this time. Failed experiment failed. In more current news, Venezeulans are hunting dogs, cats, and pigeons because they are starving.

 

Government is ever changing and evolving, and the system that worked 5 minutes ago isn't working now because cronyism and new laws have ruined it. Time will destroy every government. Our best course of action is to ensure that these systems falling into disrepair is spread out as much as possible and not allow it to coalesce into a single mass. Don't put your eggs into one basket. If the states had the power and a few started becoming corrupt and overbearing then people could move to other states very easily. Eventually, the state would suffer from lack of a population and be forced to right itself. A giant country is much harder to leave, and when it starts to fall... The world suffers.

I'd bet for Trump now, but then I trust that Clinton is hands deep in some less than clean contracts and those will surface. If that won;t happen, then she will probably win due to election magic and media coverage

The one thing that does strike me with the coming US election.. The potential first female President isn't going to elected for her merits as a President, for the belief that she's a good candidate, or really for the principles for which she stands. She's going to get elected because she's seen as a "lesser evil" and because of her opponent, not because of the things she stands for. That's not a great historical mark to have for breaking that "barrier".

And I'm saying that because I know a whole bunch of people who have pretty much said "Hilary is corrupt, she's a lesser evil, and I couldn't vote in any other way that stopped Donald Trump having nuclear weapons... so I have to vote for Hilary."
