Putin will invade germany in that case. Given the desolate state of our military, the russian army will be at the Rhine in no time. But maybe it's not for the worst.

Nah, he'll take Sweden first, giving you time to get your bratwursts in order. Official projection is that Sweden would fall within 48 hours. GG.

First white march is late, then suddenly russia invades sweden and germany.

Well, that escalated quickly.

If this is to happen during springtime, there's a chance we get a red March. Red March! Got it?

Man I was really hoping we would get a beta patch but I don't think they will do it now. The last update was #99 so it's pretty obvious they will throw the build changes and expansion in #100 given how much time has passed. I was really hoping there would be a beta log for us to see beforehand but I guess they might prefer just working on it themselves and see how people react on release since public discussion would open up another can of worms.

I also don't think they'd throw up a beta now and make us wait 3-4 weeks for it to be finalized since they split in into two parts so it wouldn't take 6 months and it's nearing that amount at this rate for part 1 alone. Wouldn't be surprised if they just showed up with part 1 any day now.

is not a problem for Gromnir, but obsidian creative impulses has gotten them into trouble in the past.  making games is a business.  traditional publisher and developer dynamic requires that the developer reach certain milestones if they wanna get paid.

...

a creative endeavour that gots literal dozens o' folks working on bits and pieces over a considerable span o' time is kinda a wacky notion to Gromnir.  our limited managerial experience makes us at least sympathetic to the problems o' keeping a group o' different persons and personalities working on the same project while needing meet uncompromising deadlines.  am guessing that games is more like big architecture projects wherein your creativity better shine bright and big early in development 'cause thereafter the process o' realizing the concepts is dirty and ugly and requiring much toil and sweat. some guy on a big building project realizes halfway through construction that there were a better and more elegant way to do X?  tough.  is likely too late.  you got schedules to keep and people to pay and many sleepless nights ahead o' you w/o even contemplating making major changes once the actual building is well under way.

the thing is, obsidian, as is typical o' creative types, has a tendency to wana make their games better, and they seeming tend to underestimate just how much effort their changes is gonna impact their schedules... or they don't make sure they get changes in writing.

am not doubting that obsidian thought that white march would be further along than it is, but keep in mind, poe itself were set for a 2014 release.  the obsidians, in an attempt to make game better, add and change features and content and whatnot.  those changes have ripple effects.  given that there ain't no publisher or milestones to concern themselves with, we suspect that the obsidians is even more concerned with getting things right as 'posed to meeting initial target schedules.

am not the least bit concerned or surprised that an obsidian project w/o a publisher is seeing some slippage insofar as meeting initial deadlines.  let 'em take their time and add/change features that they believe will make the game better. we want good.  a few extra months for good is a cheap price to pay.

HA! Good Fun!

I guess the problem is not the delay but the total lack of new information. If they said the expansion will take at least another x weeks, I would be more relaxed and focus on other stuff in the meantime. This way I expect them to just release the add-on anyday now, especially since I'm in dire need for some distraction from work recently.

I know its stupid, but hype works that way.

No, that's not stupid. There's even psychological theory to back it up in the form of Operant Conditioning. Specifically the idea of intermittant reinforcement.

Basically, because you have no idea when the "reinforcement" of new information is going to come, you're more likely to want it and act on the behaviors that might generate the reinforcment to occur (in this case, checking these forums and other news sites) than if there were a regular schedule to follow or a thoroughly updated single source of info that published at exactly 2pm on Thursdays or something. Because then you could plan to show up at 2:01 on Thursdays to get your reinforcement and move on with your day. In this case you can't, so it kind of drives you a bit mad with desire.

All this is basically the cause of psychological addictions (and is heavily used in MMOs and casinos [and well, to some degree or another, most video games]).

It may be a lot of things, but it sure ain't stupid!

While that'd be cool and everything, I think that particular art is already used for a player portrait, and I think they'd want to both avoid taking PC portraits away from the player, and have art that is inconsistent between the games.

That said, if there's a Barbarian CNPC getting added at some point, I don't think it's going to be in White March. They've not even hinted at a third CNPC being added, afaik.

...also, I find the exact class distribution to feel extremely forced, like there's some requirement that we need exactly one of each class and nothing else. I really wish they'd tried to avoid that, either by having more and more CNPC:s so it didn't come across as as obvious, or simply had different characters at different points of the same class, built in different ways. Or something.

Yeah, can confirm that's Barb PC player portrait art being cannibalized, so I'm doubting that that particular character would show up as a CNPC in any future expansions.

Yeah, it would be cool to have multiples of the same class as CNPCs with strong variations based on the character of who they are.

I mean, you can spec one average fighter very differently from the next, so it's a system that would make sense, especially for expansions, where it has to be assumed that you'll be encountering these characters at higher levels with their initial level progressions at least somewhat "filled in" so their particular spec path is already pre-determined for them.

Well either that, or going forward they're going to have to make a couple new classes in order to make the class tokenism work, since by the end of White March part 1, there will be a CNPC of every class except Barbarian by my count, and I think it's a safe assumption that White March Part 2 will come with a Barb.

I certainly hope not. It'd be really nice to get a female companion who isn't some kind of angsty, magical snowflake with a tragic backstory from an exotic, far-off land, and the barbarian is the last obvious bet for that.

Dark green, on the other hand, is for jokes and irony in general.

When the guys making the card game revealed the Zahua and Devil of Caroc cards as part of the White March booster stretch goal, they also mentioned a third NPC they couldn't reveal yet. Because only two new NPCs have been revealed for part I of the expansion, the general assumption is that one more companion will be added in part II. Nothing is known about this third companion, however: not the sex, not the class, not anything.

Yes, that is true, but we can assume that its pretty obvious the new companion will be a barbarian. It is a safe bet.

somebody suggested that they cannot read linked SA posts.  is anybody having difficulty?  we can post the text if there is a genuine problem.

Me, perhaps? If it was, it's no use asking if it's working : back when I was only a lurker, the SA boards would randomly be closed off for reading to not-goons.

I like it. I always disliked how only a few base classes would be represented in BG2.

I agree, but I also know that that isn't going to happen. The symmetry of one-CNPC-of-each-class is all too clear, to the point where I think that there'd actually be a plebeian backlash if the next CNPC wasn't a Barbarian.

HA! Good Fun!

I find his logic flawed. Like he says himself, once the Kickstarter was done, going back on the Stronghold was never an option. So between creating a token Stronghold that barely appeals, has poor support, broken mechanics, and is badly integrated into the rest of the game, and creating a worthwhile stronghold that is a given, special part of the game that is fleshed out and feels like it belongs, why would someone opt for the former, rather than the latter?

I understand the argument that some people don't like the Stronghold, or the idea of strongholds, even though I've never heard about aversion towards the idea anywhere near the level of opposition towards romances (since Sawyer brings that up), but once it's been decided to be part of the game, shouldn't it be all it can be, as much as any other part of the game? At the end of the day, it is just another line of quests in the world, and as optional as any side-quest.

I never heard anyone complain about the Strongholds in Baldur's Gate II on the basis of them being strongholds, or on some demented principle.

Not that this'll be seen or cared about, on the other side of the paywall.

But I'm not bitter.

After PoE, I don't see how anyone can still have faith in Sawyer as a developer. It could've been so infinitely better, if not for his hangups.
