DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.

How does that guy keep getting his projects up?  Doesn't KIckstarter look at them and notice they are ridiculous?  He tried to raise 5 million for a farm.

They've had perpetual motion machines on there aswell if I recall correctly, I'm not surprised. I'm quite amused though. :)

Civilization, in fact, grows more and more maudlin and hysterical; especially under democracy it tends to degenerate into a mere combat of crazes; the whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary. - H.L. Mencken

Reminds me of the "Your World" Kickstarter that was around a while back.

Maybe we all should pitch in $1. That way if it ends up getting funded we can get in on a good 'ol class-action lawsuit against the guy.

“Political philosophers have often pointed out that in wartime, the citizen, the male citizen at least, loses one of his most basic rights, his right to life; and this has been true ever since the French Revolution and the invention of conscription, now an almost universally accepted principle. But these same philosophers have rarely noted that the citizen in question simultaneously loses another right, one just as basic and perhaps even more vital for his conception of himself as a civilized human being: the right not to kill.”

"The chancellor, the late chancellor, was only partly correct. He was obsolete. But so is the State, the entity he worshipped. Any state, entity, or ideology becomes obsolete when it stockpiles the wrong weapons: when it captures territories, but not minds; when it enslaves millions, but convinces nobody. When it is naked, yet puts on armor and calls it faith, while in the Eyes of God it has no faith at all. Any state, any entity, any ideology that fails to recognize the worth, the dignity, the rights of Man...that state is obsolete."

Becase they are thinking about their 5% of the 43 $ he has raised so far ?. Or it's more calculating. KS has been getting some negative press about how you never hear about the failed projects, about how they get stigmatised in what is sometimes a crapshoot of PR luck and management. Perhaps seeing projects that 'deserve' to become nothing will help.

Slokes and Snitch ate their Thanksgiving meal high over the peaks of Pakistan. Before the sortie they had stocked Styrofoam carryout meal boxes with drumsticks, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie—there had been quite a spread in the mess hall. Neither had wanted to eat a big meal before setting out on a nine-to-ten-hour flight. But with their bomb racks empty, Slokes put the F-15 on autopilot, muttering his thanks into the thin air of dawn, and the two feasted, finding the food by the fingerlights on their gloves. By that time the meal had grown very cold, but Slokes says, "It was definitely the most memorable Thanksgiving dinner of my life. Sorry, Mom."

There is a plausible theory that no IKEA employee has ever actually applied for the position. Instead, they were all once mere customers looking to buy reasonably priced furniture… But they got lost in the store, unable to find an exit. Each night after close, smartly dressed office people sweep the aisles for poor, aimless souls. They tenderly dry their tears, hand them a t-shirt, and whisper, “Welcome aboard.”
