Christmas Patch is out

 

Only got to play for 5 mins because I have stuff to do today (will play more tonight) but initial very quickfire thoughts are

 

  • new Pale Elf Portrait is cool
  • Character sheet is much better
  • Talent UI and Skills UI is much better
  • Inventory has finally improved a bit
  • The same chick noticeably did all of the female voice sets :(
  • BB Characters all have different class builds now and new gear
  • New monk unarmed animations are pretty cool, only got to see a couple
  • New targeting art for movement and in combat is a lot better than before, glad they went back to the four triangles and the Engagement UI art is actually fine, it's just a thicker circle
  • Medreth's group has been changed again, new gear - actually drop all of their stuff now although I may have ran into a loot bug
  • dicked the lot of them with Priest's Holy Radiance lol

Played a bit, got the same problems with mah framerate.

Is the Priest's Holy Radiance bugged, I killed them immediately with this skill lol

It was like that in v333, there's a Talent that makes it damage Vessels. I am not sure if Humanoids are considered Vessels or not, but for the purposes of this spell, they appear to be.

They got rid of the backer NPC icon original.gif Hopefully they give them some ambient VO or something too.

 

Also right click move now functions the same as left click move as requested, much more useful when navigating the map.

Tooltips are now transparent, like Icewind Dale. A good change in my opinion.

 

Characters now start at level 4, which might mean that they've tweaked exactly when you can access the Dyrford in the game, not sure.

@Sensuki: Difficulty? Settings (Options/Resolution/Auto-Pause etc. etc.)? Which areas? Party comp? What were you doing? Many things happening at once? Abilities cast? etc.

EDIT: I only fought Medreth, but I had no slowdowns whatsoever (Nothing in character creation, nothing in running around, nothing in the inn or leveling up). Hopping in again. My resolution is 1366x768 btw.

Aumaua got a pretty nice make over. I barely got a chance to touch the last build, but it seems like per battle/encounter XP is in, as well as the codex XP. It's definitely feeling better overall.

Is it just my imagination or have they made the enemy AI disengage now and again?

 

I prefer the Aumaua's head in beta V333 tho

So much for attributes all being needed for PoE. We just replaced maxing Str, Dex and Con for Might and Perception.

But in IE games, attributes were more realistic and less gamist so now PoE system is crap when compared.

I'm uploading a video reporting stuttering issues with characters dropping, and I recorded the frame rate into the video, so you can see for yourself how poorly the game is running compared to previous versions.

 

I'd say it's a combination of more creatures in areas (and since no 3D Optimization has been done, that makes the frame rate terrible) as well as code changes I suppose.

So much for attributes all being needed for PoE. We just replaced maxing Str, Dex and Con for Might and Perception.

But in IE games, attributes were more realistic and less gamist so now PoE system is crap when compared.

You're talking about a system where you could make characters with the mental capacity of animals (3 CHA/INT/WIS) and they would have the same dialogue as a character with 18 CHA/INT/WIS. And a system where your physical strength determines the accuracy of your attacks is far from realistic.

You see a screenshot of someone maxing those two attributes and conclude everyone does. Nice logic you have going on there. Does the screenshot also imply that no one plays any classes beside the monk anymore?

And you are talking about putting a feature into a game that was already huge, a feature that outside of F1/F2 was not seen anywhere. You got no case here, only empty talk.

 

As for Strenght, of course Strenght decides accuracy in a system where armor reduces hit chance. Strength of the wielder decides its speed and power. You need both to punch through armor. Still no case here, only empty talk. Return once you understand what you are talking about.
