Pope Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 I loved IWD, but the only way I'd pay for it again is if it were 3E like IWD2. 1
Bester Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 (edited) am understanding it would never happen, and clearly beamdog wouldn't be the folks to do it anyway, but the game that would genuine benefit from an enhanced edition is toee. troika had the beginnings of an excellent d&d, squad-based, tactical combat game. unfortunate, troika complete dropped the ball on execution. they chose mediocre source material and then treated the module as if they were thirteen-year-old dms who had never actual dm'd a d&d session. troika did almost nothing to flesh-out the source material save for adding a brothel and a gay pirate... and then troika got angry 'cause brothel were predictably removed. toee coulda' been a great game if the folks designing the role-play encounters were even the least bit competent. toee coulda' been a great game if it weren't so complete buggy. toee coulda' been a great game if troika had finished what they started and made a great d&d combat simulator... but they half-arsed it with questionable spell/feat implementations and poor AoO and reach weapons mechanics and similar such mistakes. it would not take a great deal o' effort to transform toee from a buggy mess with after-thought role-play elements into an excellent crpg... but it would take more than the simple community bug fixes we has seen. toee would be a fantastic candidate for an enhanced edition, as implausible/impossible as that kinda project would be. HA! Good Fun! Yes, TOEE story has made some people fall into a coma. You seem to be somewhat of an expert on Troika and I've always wondered something. Here's what I'd like to know or at least get your opinion on. How could the same studio make VtMB (10/10 story-wise) and TOEE (super bad) at almost the same time? Volourn Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 (edited) BL is not 10/10. Neither is TOEE 'super bad'. So, your premise is wrong and so your question is illogical. Edited September 1, 2014 by Volourn DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.
ManifestedISO Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Is there a widescreen mod for Icewind Dale. I made a party yesterday after reading this thread, and it just won't work on a 1080 monitor, not in windowed mode or fullscreen ... super jaggy, can't see the charcters in the inn very much at all, they're so tiny. All Stop. On Screen.
Majek Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 There is only one Widescreen mod and it's for all IE games. You do have to have all the content for each game though. So if you have IWD plus HOW ( TotL is optional as always ) use it, if you only have IWD then you're stuck. link http://forums.gibberlings3.net/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=896 1.13 killed off Ja2.

Also in the GOG forums on the IWD forums there is list of the best Mods to use in a topic right in the beginning of the post list. I played IWD recently and I recommend the suggested list, its only about 4-5 Mods and most of them are bug fixes. ManifestedISO Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 (edited) Thanks. I can't get the widescreen mod to install, even with HoW. Tried re-installing the game, the only hitch was "Unable to rename override file." The game's file name doesn't say HoW anywhere, and the mod's dos box says it's "unsupported." A search didn't help either. Bummer. Can't get it to go for IWD II, either. Edited September 1, 2014 by ManifestedISO All Stop. On Screen.
IndiraLightfoot Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 (edited) A minor word of warning about IWD1 and the GOG mods package that you get with it. Like four months ago, my anti-virus program did a search, and found one of the files to be so dangerous that it quarantined it immediately. That was a first. :/ Edited September 1, 2014 by IndiraLightfoot *** "The words of someone who feels ever more the ent among saplings when playing CRPGs" ***

Bester Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 (edited) No. Something is preventing the program to write/overwrite. Either the lack of privileges (solution: run as administrator) or an antivirus (solution: disable antivirus). (and by run, I mean run the widescreen.exe in your IWD directory, not the installer) Edited September 1, 2014 by Bester IE Mod for Pillars of Eternity: link
IndiraLightfoot Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 That routinely happens depending on the zeal of your antivirus. But that's the thing, though. I had all the IE games installed, with GoG mods and all, and I had Circle of Eight's mod for ToEE. The AV program never pounced on those. It was a bit weird, that's all. *** "The words of someone who feels ever more the ent among saplings when playing CRPGs" ***
ManifestedISO Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Has to be the retail. Tried installing to a new directory other than Program Files, disabling AV, as admin, nothing. I'll just wait for the EE. All Stop. On Screen.

Zoraptor Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 The widescreen mod works perfectly on retail IWD, that's the version I have and used earlier this year. Or maybe last year. Either way, it was an easier install than modding BG2 retail was. Which was still far better than wasting $20 on Overhaul's version. I did install Tales of the Luremaster as well as HoW, since that wasn't specified. But that's the thing, though. I had all the IE games installed, with GoG mods and all, and I had Circle of Eight's mod for ToEE. The AV program never pounced on those. It was a bit weird, that's all. Heuristics update, most likely. That's the 'predictive' part of the AV package that is designed not to catch known viruses but to catch unknown ones by behaviour or code snippets. If the heuristics have been updated too broadly all sorts of new 'threats' may be found in existing files, and they entirely deserve the ' ' around them. I've had gog installers, gamersgate installers and very well known mods flagged, Bioshock multiple times, all sorts of things, some after they've been on my computer for years and have been checked dozens of times previous. They were all false positives. If you've only had one of those you're lucky. 2
ManifestedISO Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 (edited) I did install Tales of the Luremaster as well as HoW, since that wasn't specified. I assume the GOG version comes with this. My retail box is from 2003, with IWD, HoW, and IWD II, but apparently not TotL. Is there a similar "patch" for IWD II, that I don't have, which might explain why the WS mod didn't take on that title, too. Nevermind, I see v.2.01 for IWD II available. Edit: Upon installation of TotL, the widescreen mod installed correctly. Edited September 1, 2014 by ManifestedISO All Stop. On Screen.
Bester Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 (edited) What anti-viruses do you use, people? Jesus... I've been paying mister Kaspersky for years now and I've never had a false positive. Mr Kaspersky protects me, cares about me, backs up my projects and pictures every sunday at 1 am, keeps my ports closed, he even closes pop ups on porn sites like a caring good man that he is. I love him so. Edited September 1, 2014 by Bester IE Mod for Pillars of Eternity: link
nipsen Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 ..the entire "Windows security essentials" package will probably revert your patched files immediately if the game is installed in the /Program Files(x86)/... folder, though. When you run a non-signed executable, and so on. Without the anti-virus programs ever noticing, usually... Anyway - really looking forward to the release. Since then I can write a vindictively critical review, while mocking the people who try to play the game on their iPad. ...oops. Did I say that out loud? The injustice must end! ManifestedISO Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Made a party of four females, quadra-babes, paladin, fighter, thief, mage, and played through the prologue. It is monkey barrels of fun. I died probably a dozen times fighting orc shamans and ogres in the first cave (ogre cave ... wait, what). Like I mean one-hit kills on my first-level player-characters. Finally I reeled in the bastard, cast sleep, he failed his save for more than one round, got back up, barely took him down in time. Whew! I forgot how entertaining Icewind Dale is, thrust into the deep end right away. The widescreen mod is actually useful. You have to pay close attention, and wear your reading glasses, but it looks good, not distracting at all. 3 All Stop. On Screen.

ManifestedISO Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Oh, no doubt, I got the sword from the lady lake spirit, killed the basement bugs, the warehouse wolf, and a couple others. It's so weird now, having different characters level up at different speeds. Like my thief got to third level before the mage reached second. I'm loving this game, again. Healing is a pretty difficult thing to manage, but the payoff is a thrill when you survive a legion of undead with nine hit points left between two characters. 1 All Stop. On Screen.
