Since the last thread derailed slightly as well as reached the post limit, here's a fresh new thread for all our random gaming news. ;)

...not that I have any to report, myself, since I'm still in the stone ages wishing for a real Dungeon Keeper 3.

Drama over MS' alleged offer to pay Machinima partners more for positive Xbone talk

Those specs are highly dubious.  The GPU is essentially a R9 290X, plus an octa-core PowerPC CPU?  In terms of raw horsepower it would slaughter the XBOne or PS4, but how would they sell that at a competitive price without taking a MASSIVE loss on each unit?  I mean those are high-end PC specs.  I suppose in 2 or 3 years those components might be cheaper, but still.

This industry is more entertaining to watch than the stuff it produces, some times.

I agree, what possible cost-effective reason would they have to add two CPUs and a discreet GPU. And what's with two different RAM values. Those specs are for multi-monitor and 4K gaming, not vanilla 1080p Zelda fun-time.

I hope they do something soon, though. I really would love a powerful, backwards-compatible Nintendo. If I want to play Mario Kart 8 right after playing some original F-Zero on the same box ... mmm ...

All Stop. On Screen.

That would be the point I'm sure. Along with the HVD drive....

Of course it's a little crazy, but it's possible for Nintendo to make a deal with AMD, especially in a couple of years. Also, why release a new console unless you're going to destroy the competition. One thing that is interesting is that Nintendo IS a part of the Holography System Development Forum which is related to HVD tech.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holographic_Versatile_Disc

It's not just a little crazy, it's idiotic. DDR4 isn't as fast as the fastest DDR3, it's also really expensive. They're not releasing a $1000 console with top range hardware which they'd still make a loss on, and if they're going to release later they'll use newer generation hardware, not top range old hardware. On top of the new CPU it says they're sticking a similar CPU to the Wii U's with DDR3 on die (suggesting Wii U hardware emulation), which would push the price up further. Worst lie is the GPU, which obviously would have much too high power consumption for a console.

Funny, they realize that the word Saga can hardly be trademarked?

saga (ˈsɑːɡə)

n
1. (Literary & Literary Critical Terms) any of several medieval prose narratives written in Iceland and recounting the exploits of a hero or a family
2. (Literary & Literary Critical Terms) any similar heroic narrative
3. (Literary & Literary Critical Terms) Also called: saga novel a series of novels about several generations or members of a family
4. (Theatre) any other artistic production said to resemble a saga
5. a series of events or a story stretching over a long period

The trademarking problem could arise IF they would somehow had any other connection with the titles in possession of the other party, for example The Banner Saga: A Candy's Crush story.

Seeing no such resemblance to any given title in possession of other parties, you cannot trademark the word alone. Exception could be made for example when trademarking a specific shape and fonts use for the word Saga and any icon associated with it and product content that could look like a direct copy, like in case of for example "Apple" trademark and any device resembling "Apple" 's devices with a word "apple" on it.

Even then, the producers of The Banner Saga should feel fairly safe, as their product is a homage to "viking culture" and a use of word Saga is fully justified. Only if the other party could prove that they have similar product (computer game) with same story and same gameplay experience that they registered earlier than The Banner Saga developers, then they could hold the claim... I seriously doubt it.

Please note, that I am not a specialist in US trademark related laws, so I might be incorrect.

Another piece of news. Candy Crush guys turning into Bethesda.

Bethesda? Mere amateurs. That's more like Tim Langdell of Edge fame.

There have been games out before with Candy in the title. Not many, but a few. Considering that game is apparently just Bejeweled, but with candy instead - They should shut the heck up and enjoy those revenues while they last.

Saga is the most ridiculous piece of horse poop ever. There are litterally hundreds of games already out with "Saga" in the title. Square Enix has an entire series of games named Saga, or SaGa. (Unlimited Saga used a small 'g')

King.com should replace EA for this years video game representative for Worst Company. Then Jerry "The King" Lawler should sue King.com for everything they have, because everyone knows Jerry is the King (dot com.)

I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think, I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech, and freedom of choice. I'm the kinda guy that likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs with the side-order of gravy fries?" I want high cholesterol! I wanna eat bacon, and butter, and buckets of cheese, okay?! I wanna smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section! I wanna run naked through the street, with green Jell-O all over my body, reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly may feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiene"

Well, it is actually suspended. Though I agree it shouldn't even be considered for a trademark at all except as part of a full title.

So not only are they patent trademark trolling, they're doing so with a suspended, applied for only trademark?

What we need is for EA to have made a game using Candy or Saga, since they were the ones who ultimately crushed Langdell's trolling spree.

Huh? DDR4 is the next iteration of SDRAM as far as I understand it and is much faster than DDR3.

Perhaps you should read something about it. Intel is only supporting DDR4 at the end of the year for servers because of the lower voltage. DDR4 will be released at 2133 MT/s, which is also the speed of the highest DDR3 standard modules, manufacturers sell DDR3 at 2400 MT/s. In the future DDR4 will be faster, but for a while it won't be.

Mmmm....I don't think that's right Ocelot, the number 4 comes after the number 3....its a greater number. That's an unquestionable truth therefore DDR4 must be faster than DDR3. There we go, the debate is over :ermm:

It's supposed to appear in enthusiast desktop chips this year too (Haswell-E).  You are completely correct that DDR4 won't offer any tangible performance benefits initially, same as DDR3 didn't over DDR2.  In a couple of years DDR4 will be significantly faster.

I think you should because you don't know what the hell you're talking about.
