Walsingham
Following the discussion in the sitcom Cabin Pressure about people's names that sound evil (Russell Crowe, Patek Phillipe etc.) I was thinking about things I now find sinister. Chiefly The Chocolate Factory I can't think of any other phrase that has gained more evil soundingness over the last decade. Any other favourites? "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe. RIP Hades/Sand/etc. Here's hoping your next alt has a harp. Blarghagh
The journalism phrase "inquiring minds want to know" bothers me. It puts me in a frame of mind of spymasters or curious minds of creatures beyond our understanding.
Enoch
The journalism phrase "inquiring minds want to know" bothers me. It puts me in a frame of mind of spymasters or curious minds of creatures beyond our understanding. It sounds to me more like a justification of intrusive celebrity journalism. What can you find while rifling through [starlet of the Week]'s trash bin? Inquiring minds want to know!
Nonek
Quango, sounds like a particularly brutal general for the great Khan. Compost, not sure why. 1 Quite an experience to live in misery isn't it? That's what it is to be married with children.I've seen things you people can't even imagine. Pearly Kings glittering on the Elephant and Castle, Morris Men dancing 'til the last light of midsummer. I watched Druid fires burning in the ruins of Stonehenge, and Yorkshiremen gurning for prizes. All these things will be lost in time, like alopecia on a skinhead. Time for tiffin. Tea for the teapot!
Raithe
Congress. Okay, I'll admit, that one was a cheap throw. Although I was balancing the urge to say that or "Tony Blair". I would throw in for more serious consideration "The Information Age" given the shift in privacy issues nowadays.. "Cuius testiculos habeas, habeas cardia et cerebellum." Walsingham
I agree Quango's evilsoundingness has definitely increased. In fact, why don't we adopt 'quango' as the measurement of inoccuous words becoming evil. So "'polar express' has shown an increased quango." "It wasn't lies. Gorth
Social Media (one of the most asocial inventions ever) Smart Phones (no, it doesn't make you smarter, it was just some smart guy who came up with the idea and now sell it to people) Virtual Intelligence (virtually everywhere and either not very intelligent or too smart for its own good) Next Gen (sooo last year) Individual (when somebody wants to lump you together with the 7 billion other "individuals" for easier classification) Pro-active (when somebody wants to lead you around by the nose while making you think you are not being led around by the nose). That was just a handful from top of my head. 3 “He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt.
