What's the coles notes on Eschalon? (if you can point me to good links that's fine). The name isn't completely foreign to me, but I don't know much about the game.

Turn based old school RPG is about the best summing up it can have. Something like Avadon from Vogel would probably be a good baseline comparison, 'isometric' turn and tile based, lots of character skills, decentish plot, standard quest design, fairly strong reliance on old school techniques like kiting especially with some character choices.

They are (were?) on sale direct from the developers for $8 combined (3$/ 5$) for the two existing games. I already own them both and they'd get a qualified recommendation in that I enjoyed them but I'm not sure how widespread their appeal would be. I'd suspect most people who like roguelikes or the spiderweb games would like the Eschalons as well.

Eschalon is nothing special but a nice effort in the old school spirit and worth playing. Get past the boring art style & the annoying move one tile per input system and you have a solid, if unsurprising, old school RPG, decent quests, dungeoneering, etc. The combat is decent, not particularly complex and only a single character but holds up well.

Seems the sale is over, oddly enough, although he posted on 4th that it would go for 4 days?

THQ to be carved up.

Now the only question is who will not find a new home.

Everyone will have a home. It's just some will end up in a rather impoverished house. Everything gets sold to pay debt. If they need to sell everything, everything finds a place, even if it's in the hands of the insurance company that makes up the difference to debtors. If they don't need to sell everything, THQ gets to keep some stuff, which they may then sell for operating capital.

It's not over, the sale price shows up once you get to the checkout.

I like both games and i'll definitely buy the third one when it's done. And i loved the move per tile system and that everything moves at once so you don't have to wait.

Valve showing SteamBox tonight at the CES 2013

Edit: Screw that. Not 100% sure this is actually the SteamBox.

Personally I think that Valve has made an egregious mistake in investing in this type of technology. They should have stayed with what they know and are good at, the distribution of games for the PC. I think they have underestimated the support for PC gaming, people don't want another console mutation gaming platform. So lets see how financially successful this adventure is. :)

From what I know (which admittedly isn't much), I don't think Valve is underestimating support for PC gaming with the SteamBox idea.

Whoops. I think you may be right. I now realize that this technology isn't going to replace the PC, I made an incorrect assumption. It just allows you to play Steam based PC games on HD TV screens, this is actually a good idea. I will be following this concept. What would be the negative with this type of technology from a PC gaming perspective?

The one thing I am concerned about is real performance with the Xi3, for example I have 2 GB of memory just on my video card in my gaming PC. How much memory with the Xi3 have in there built-in video card? I know this is a huge factor in the excellent graphic settings I can enable in my games? Does anyone know anything about this

...it will run the latest and great PC games on it...

I don't believe that for a second. They're just using the most vague marketing terms and boasting about performance without backing it up. CNET are reporting that the 7A comes with an AMD R-Series APU with Radeon HD 7660G which struggles to run Arkham City and Metro 2033 at low resolution, let alone Battlefield 3, Skyrim, or Crysis 2, considering this isn't even out yet, it doesn't really have a chance at games released after it's available.

The 5A as a desktop solution for general use is great, although it's slow and expensive enough that a Chromebook or Chromebox is going to be more appealing for just web use, and a laptop is going to be the better deal, even with a SSD added to it (I'm hoping manufacturers just switch).

This is my concern, the Video card and its capability

This whole new craze about being entertained 24/7 anywhere and at anytime is totally going out of control. This is the key to understand the American psyche.

I used to have 9 cats for my 24/7 entertainment.

Killing is kind of like playin' a basketball game. I am there. and the other player is there. and it's just the two of us. and I put the other player's body in my van. and I am the winner. - Nice Pete.

Book or Gameboy. Now it's usually book or notepad for writing.

Exclusive interview with Alphabeard Gabe Newell about the Steam Box and the future of Steam

Do you think you can really disrupt the home entertainment space and compete with Microsoft and Sony?

The internet is super smart. If you do something that is cool, that's actually worth people's time, then they'll adopt it. If you do something that's not cool and sucks, you can spend as many marketing dollars as you want, [they] just won't.
