NOK222 Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 (edited) A caster who isn't a mage, wizard or priest, but who uses his or her power to mind**** people...I think I found my class. Edited October 4, 2012 by NKKKK 2 Ka-ka-ka-ka-Cocaine!
DocDoomII Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 (edited) You just want to uncover other people naughty secrets and have a harem of mind controlled women, don't you? Jokes aside, I'd like to have few more details on this class. It seems interesting, but quite vague. Wirdjos Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 He sounds awesome, but so very vague. How do you think the mind****ing will come across in the mechanics?

Hypevosa Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 I love psions in D&D, seeing the cipher makes me happy :D
NerdBoner Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 like i said before: FIRST.DAY.CLASS. me so excite!

Aedelric Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 It is a nice concept, I like it. I am interested in what they will look like, for some reason I am getting a bald evil vibe from it all.
NerdBoner Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 won't be happy until i can tk crush people during an "aggressive" negotiation.
Hiro Protagonist II Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Seeing the psion cipher in this game is great.
rjshae Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Yes, a nice addition... assuming the goal is reached. Like an enchanter, though, they may not be that helpful in certain circumstances... such as with undead. I wonder if these guys (and gals) will roughly be this setting's bard class? I mean they're undoubtedly good with people, they have some bard-like magic skills; all they need is some instrument playing and lorecraft to cover up their true nature. "It has just been discovered that research causes cancer in rats."

NOK222 Posted October 4, 2012 Author Posted October 4, 2012 Aren't bards usually a sub-class of rouges? Ka-ka-ka-ka-Cocaine!
Rostere Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 "What's in a name? That which we call a psionicist, by any other name would smell as sweet." 2 "Well, overkill is my middle name. And my last name. And all of my other names as well!"
NerdBoner Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Aren't bards usually a sub-class of rouges? nope, they fight people with the power of song, wine and dance! I assure you its only half as gay as it sounds... 3
Nonek Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 For me this sounds as exciting as hell, if a cipher chooses not to be seen can he just erase his image from those he walks past, turn any coversation down the path he desires, blind with illusions of terror or pleasure of unimaginable detail, speak with souls and minds long dead, send opponents running with fear or even trap the enemy within a prison of their own mind. That's without the ability to turn his minds power on the physical world, with telekinesis he could be an unholy terror, crushing hearts and spines with a single glare of contempt. Perhaps he could even bind old souls into the tattered remains of their bodies and make them serve him, necromantic puppets dancing on his invisible strings. 2 Quite an experience to live in misery isn't it? That's what it is to be married with children.I've seen things you people can't even imagine. Pearly Kings glittering on the Elephant and Castle, Morris Men dancing 'til the last light of midsummer. I watched Druid fires burning in the ruins of Stonehenge, and Yorkshiremen gurning for prizes. All these things will be lost in time, like alopecia on a skinhead. Time for tiffin. Tea for the teapot!

NerdBoner Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 (edited) ^ I imagine someone who can easily know all the devious perversions of others by simply gazing into their mind would be a bit of an outsider... FearMonkey Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 The use of the spelling 'cipher' makes me immediately think of a spy or secret agent or something.. But yeah, they probably mean psionics. Either way, sounds cool to me.

These are more like Psions in D&D. Yes we know; I should probably have said quasi-bard. If you think about it a little, a mind mage would still need a practical career. Since they understand people very well and are able to alter their moods, entertainment seems like a possible choice. That would also provide a useful cover; people who would be unnerved at the abilities of a psion cipher would be more open to an entertainer. Other likely choices would be orator, merchant, or spy. RosesandAshes Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 I don't know anything about psionics (I gather they're....like this class, only they came first) but this class sounds cool enough that I want my first character to be one!
Badmojo Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Things I would like to see: - telekenisis - (highest power and you should be able to explode heads and bodies) - Conversation/mental choices (make them tell you the truth, make them love/lust for you, make them fear you, make them forget something, make them hate somebody/thing, give them false memories make them your mind slave/thrall, etc) - read mind - find out secrets, gain insights - illusion - create illusion monsters, alter yourself to appear as a different person to impersonate someone (like a captain of the gaurds to order them to go someone else), turn invisible, etc - astral projection - project your mind out of your body to spy on someone, scout out the area - dominate/possession - (works with astral projection) take over a body, use to explore, impersonate, fight people without risking your own body. - kamakazi - (works with astral projection/dominate/possession), take over someone, fight(or manually activate kamakazi), then if the body gets killed it explodes in a gory mess hopefully taking out those around them. - past touch - gain information from objects from touching them. - (as long as it does not take away from those wizards who want to be necromancers) talk to spirits, raise the dead, etc
JWestfall Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Certainly sounds potentially fun as a class to play - but more intriguing to me is how they will fit into society. Mind controllers are typically written as being ostracized & feared by society - and for good reason. A single psion could become supreme leader of the world if unchecked (a la The Mule in Foundation). So, do they form secret societies (as suggested by their name)? Are they hunted down or limited by other groups? Are they cursed in some way or have severe limitations?
NerdBoner Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 a villain cipher would be an interesting thing to see... I can imagine many scenarios were psychic powers would be quite useful in exerting control over a faction.
