I saw Skyfall.

Hm, I'm not totally sure what I made of it. There are a lot of elements that were quite good, some nicely developed characters, a nice way of showing how various people in MI6 connect to each other...

But it seems a bit..odd that the whole story comes down to the "showing people why you need human agents as well as satellites and such", "Bond proving he's not too old for this" and a way of changing M over and introducing a new Moneypenny.

Didn't we have Pierce Brosnan proving the need for human agents a couple of films ago? And for the third Craig film to already have people in-universe making the comments that he might be getting too old and needing to slow down and get out of the field..

I will admit, the reappearance of the Aston Martin from Goldfinger was a very nice move. Along with the M and Bond banter.

Bond flips the eject button open "Are you going to be like this on the whole trip?"

M rolls her eyes "Oh yes, go on, eject me then,"

We Bought a Zoo.

Slow but I guess it was ok for light feel-good fare. Matt Damon's performance was the best aspect of it. Altho my husband said it was "kinda sappy."

Heh, so in an interview a few weeks back, Hugo Weaving very casually mentioned his view on his role voicing Megatron in the Transformers films..

Weaving recently said of his voice-over role as Megatron in the original Bay-directed Transformers trilogy: "That’s a weird job for me because it honestly was a two-hour voice job, initially. I was doing a play and I actually didn’t have time, anyway. It was one of the only things I’ve ever done where I had no knowledge of it, I didn’t care about it, I didn’t think about it. They wanted me to do it."

"In one way, I regret that bit. I don’t regret doing it, but I very rarely do something if it’s meaningless. It was meaningless to me, honestly. I don’t mean that in any nasty way. I did it. It was a two-hour voice job, while I was doing other things. Of course, it’s a massive film that’s made masses of money. I just happened to be the voice of one of the iconic villainous characters. But, my link to that and to Michael Bay is so minimal. I have never met him. I was never on set. I’ve seen his face on Skype. I know nothing about him, really. I just went in and did it. I never read the script. I just have my lines, and I don’t know what they mean. That sounds absolutely pathetic! I’ve never done anything like that, in my life. It’s hard to say any more about it than that, really."

Which to me doesn't sound as if he's being critical of Transformers of Michael Bay, more just "eh, it was a paid gig. I turned up, I did the work, it didn't have anything more to it then that."

However, it seems to have offended Michael Bay who in return slammed a few criticisms Hugo's way in return..

"Do you ever get sick of actors that make $15 million a picture, or even $200,000 for voiceover work that took a brisk one hour and 43 minutes to complete, and then complain about their jobs?

With all the problems facing our world today, do these grumbling thespians really think people reading the news actually care about trivial complaints that their job wasn’t 'artistic enough' or 'fulfilling enough'? I guess The Hollywood Reporter thinks so. What happened to people who had integrity, who did a job, got paid for their hard work, and just smiled afterward? Be happy you even have a job – let alone a job that pays you more than 98% of the people in America.

I have a wonderful idea for all those whiners: They can give their 'unhappy job money' to a wonderful Elephant Rescue. It’s the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Africa. I will match the funds they donate."

Methinks someone saw it as more of a personal attack then anything else... :shifty:

Watched The Descent over the weekend. It's been a long time since I outright screamed in sheer fright during a movie.

I knew something was up when T-Dog had more than one speaking line in the show.

Just finished watching the Total Recall remake. I didn't mind it, at all. I don't know why, but I really have a hard time enjoying any of Arnolds' movies anymore. Except for Pumping Iron, possibly.

Now it's time to go have a smoke in the garage and get ready to watch last nights episode of Homeland.

Caught last night's episode of Castle.

Jonathan Frakes doing a brief cameo on camera besides directing it as Castle's "Number 1 fan!" and the muttered comment as he leaves "oh how the might have fallen..."

Abraham Lincoln:Vampire Hunter.

The action scenes were entertaining, but of course the movie itself is ludicrous and the ending became too over the top even for the premise of the film. Still, I derived some moments of pleasure out of it, not the least of which was seeing Alan Tudyk in a small uncredited role.

Caught last night's episode of Castle.

I heard Armin Shimerman was in it too, wearing a shirt that said "Han shot first". :-

Saw Wreck it Ralph under the guise of taking my daughter, but it was really for me. Really enjoyed it. Reviews pretty much sum it up, its good, but not Toy Story good. With its success I hope they try to go a little deeper in a sequel, exploring how Arcades are pretty much dead with everything moving to consoles and online, and how that affects the characters.

The cameos were all brilliant, and the konami code gag obviously didn't get caught by the rest of the theatre as I was the only one laughing.

Finally saw The Dork Knight Returns. I wasn't a fan of the previous two, but this one was the worst.

:D

I haven't seen it yet, but I considered the first two to be rather ok, albeit seriously overrated. I'm almost tempted to posit the heretical idea that Bardem in the new Bond channels crazy better than Ledger did...

I have "Safe" on my list, next, but I haven't been able to do anything more intellectually challenging than watching (American) football in the past ~2 weeks. Well, at least I can claim to be Dr. Joe Sixpack, if this becomes a permanent state.

Safe isn't too bad if you enjoy Statham action flicks.

Heh, I took it to a dvd night with friends, and one of the girls was all "oh, my bf doesn't allow me to watch any film with a topless Statham in.."

See, if I was obsessive like that, I couldn't watch my favourite movie (Casino Royale) with girls I'm serious about. That wouldn't do. :p

I know last time I hated on this movie it didn't go over well, but I thought the

was just too hilarious not to post. Don't watch it if you haven't seen it, because it contains huge spoilers of all the dumb things happening in that movie, i.e. the plot, philosophy, characters and design... so basically everything.

Watched the first episode of CW's "Arrow" series. Green Arrow. Haven't read the comics, nor did I see the Smallville stuff, but I kinda liked this new series. At least the premiere. Can definitely see the Batman influence. The bow skills are impossibly silly, of course, but whatever, it looks cool. At least it's entertaining. Dunno if the later episodes hold up ... and the flashback method as a persistent mystery/story telling thing wears on me these days ... but kinda cool. For, y'know, CW.

They don't overuse the flashbacks. My only issue is that he's pretty much a mass murderer at this point. Most of which are simply private security goons just trying to make a living protecting rich guys. Not the greatest job but hardly deserving of death.

Seen 5 episodes now I think. At this point the flashbacks are almost more interesting than the present timeline, simply because it leaves you wondering what went on there. :)

I don't think he always kills the security guys...probably just disables them off-screen. But if they're shooting at him, then yeah, he kills them or at least maims them a whole lot. Self-defense and all, what are you gonna do. I think it's a tad more "realistic" then how some superheroes seem to be able to magically avoid killing anyone and everything except the one true baddie. And some of those goons, at least, probably know what their bosses are up to....yet don't quit/try to find a new client.

That said, I'm sure the aghast "you're just a murderer" angle will be a part of the show's morality subplots again and again.

I tend to defend Bay from his usual attacker sbut here he is the one who comes across as a crybaby. What a toolbag.

Integrity, to me, is not just about 'grin and bear' bad jobs but being honest about stuff which is all Weaving was doing.

Grow up Bay.

No powers in-universe. She's a lawyer and Ollie's love interest, but she's not Black Canary. Yet.

Not familiar with the comic stuff....but no, not yet.

I believe that Deathstroke is in it, however. And one episode had a chr. called Deadshot. Could be like the Smallville series, where most Arrow enemies show up for an episode or two. And likely altered. I don't have the impression the show is following the comics that closely?
