RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS THREAD!

Whoah whoah. Rumor mill time. Warning: rumors ahead.

There seems to be some changes at Bioware. The seed rumor is that Bioware Austin may stop being part of the Bioware brand. But the more interesting one is that the doctors may be leaving Bioware. http://www.rpgwatch.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17734

Dr. Greg Zeschuk is no longer a General Manager. Though he is still a Co-Founder. Not that he could ever technically cease being as such.

Edit:

Totally false. Greg was in the office on Thursday. His room is across from mine.

I think Bioware has a to attached fanbase for EA to just shut it down. Hell, EA is banking on that with the fact they opened extra studios on the Bioware name.

Victor of the 5 year fan fic competition!

Got to agree, went on that Bioware Social Network place once to solve a problem I was having in Dragon Age, the fans there seem a little...avid for wont of a better word.

Quite an experience to live in misery isn't it? That's what it is to be married with children.

I've seen things you people can't even imagine. Pearly Kings glittering on the Elephant and Castle, Morris Men dancing 'til the last light of midsummer. I watched Druid fires burning in the ruins of Stonehenge, and Yorkshiremen gurning for prizes. All these things will be lost in time, like alopecia on a skinhead. Time for tiffin.

I remember seeing a recent Bioware "credits" plate with no mention of Greg, I remember wondering about it, but I can't remember the context. Last I heard he was running Austin.

Linkedin shows "Co-founder, Bioware" in the current employment at linkedin. Could be that after the hatchet job done recently on Austin he does not have a more defined position.

Also, take nothing "Evil" Chris Priestly says at face value without analysing it for every possible hidden meaning. The man is scary good at his job (you wouldn't believe with the fan backlash that's been going for years now, but he handles individual situations with the ruthless skill of a professional internet assassin) :p

For anyone that's interested, Green Man Gaming is doing a 30% off special on Sleeping Dogs, which releases next week, until Tuesday 11:00am UTC. Since it's a Steam game, you get a code for Steam rather than having to use GMG's Capsule service.

I'm going to need better directions than "the secret lair."

He's not running the Austin studio any more, that's all that has been 'confirmed'.

Also, the studio seems to be Freeeench and hasn't shipped a game since 2006.

They have done some other stuff since 2006, they did at least the first level of Bioshock 2 for example. They were also (allegedly, though there was some pretty decent circumstantial evidence) making System Shock 3 at the time John Riccitielo took over EA and killed most of their external development.

...

...

System Shock 3 from Arkane and EA axed it?

If that happens to be true, I hope all in EA's management gets testicular cancer.

EA=Bioware. Why is that so hard to understand? If there's evil there it's 50% Bioware and 50% EA.

Without knowing how much freedom EA granted BW and their team is hard to say for sure. I know of a lot projects that fell short because of publishers; as do we all, but we somehow make BW to be the exception as if they had full control over everything they do.

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*

Doesn't effect my gaming since I haven't played their games in a while, but if it's true it's a pity to see a RPG powerhouse go down.

Bio's story is one of hubris and belief in their own hype.

As for EA? It's like having a terrifically successful restaurant, then one day deciding to turn it into a McDonald's franchise, all the while convincing yourself that your burgers are going to be better.

Morgie's cartoon says it all. Bwahahahahaaaaa. To carry on the tortured metaphors, it's like going out on a date with Jeffrey Dahmer then getting surprised when you end up in the icebox.

Why a pity? There's a new hole now that has to be filled. This is Obsidians chance.

Bring on Dungeon Siege 4!

The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.

As much as I root for Obsidian, anyone who dreams of this will be in for a rude surprise if Bio does come apart.

Yep, all it would show is that even large and successful RPG makers cannot be successful enough any more, and it would get even more difficult to get RPGs made.

Don't think there's any chance of Bioware going anywhere in the short term anyway. EA has just finished rebranding a bunch of studios and despite the Angry Internet Man response to ME3 it was a commercial success. It'd be baby with bathwater to cull them, and it'd be the end for Riccitiello given the amount he paid for them in the first place.
