Well was commenting on the pamphlet. I like the bit about the weapons.

Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham now have riots, too.

This particularly rapid, unintelligible patter isn't generally heard, and if it is, it doesn't matter.

Who's drinking tea while wearing a monocle now, eh?

Hope all of you gents are okay.

stay safe my british friends..what are they rioting about

depends what you is actual asking. the spark that led to initial riots involves the shooting death o' a black suspect under somewhat mysterious circumstances-- possible police misconduct. however, riots is not some kinda simple group-think monster with identifiable motivations. 'ccording to most bbc reports we has seen, the current typical rioter is not angry so much as opportunistic... is all 'bout grabbing ph47 10075 while the constabulary is overwhelmed and largely unresponsive.

helpful timeline for those who value bbc. if you thinks bbc is evil and untrustworthy...

HA! Good Fun!

Yay Anarchy in the UK you blokes!

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*

So basically they are just showing that no police force can be everywhere at all times. They are apparently coordinating the attacks in a similar fashion as the Arab revolts did last spring, only this time is more Blackberry chat and less FB. I'm not sure if this is good or bad brand publicity. "Blackberry, the tool of the 21st century professional hooligan"

It's kinda weird the complete ineffectiveness the police have demonstrated so far because Brits have a lot of experience fighting urban guerrillas and rioters in Northern Ireland.

I wonder once police and/or military response gears up to actually put the riots down, will Sarko move to initiate humanitarian airstrikes on the evil repressors too? Will he ask for RAF support?

I think the reason is that the police have experience from anti-terrorism, football hooligans and alike. Immigrants and some chavs going on a masslooting-spree is probably not filed under standard protocol

Anyhoo, the two "worst" scenarios are:

1) Military moves into cities. Little casualties, but a big blow to british society as a "civilized" and "western" society since it is not a demonstration against the government, but rather random looting and pillaging.

2) The rest of britain give up on the police being able to keep order and form local neighbourhood watches, paramilitary groups and a such. Much more casualties, since it would pretty easily escalate to target all blacks.

Good God, which option do we take man!!!?

Let's not get over-excited here. The fact is that with about 2000 coppers in a county the police have always 'controlled' by consent and sleight of hand. If someone takes it into their head to stage a 'riot' then standard procedure is basically to let them get on with it, unless someone powerful is prepared to shell out overtime and specialist units to hit it really hard.

My read on this situation is that:

1. The man's OWN SUPPORTERS admitted to the BBC that he was 'involved in stuff', but that they maintain he wasn't violent

2. The chucking of a few rocks at a police car was met with passive inaction by the police

3. ...and 'yutes' began the obvious teenage reaction of hooting and running amok, aided by 'adults' keen to do some looting

4. The vilence willl stop when either every simpleton who wants a telly has burned down their local Dixons, and when the police get given a strategic parliamentary level 'all clear' on battering hoodies.

5. Until they get some political cover te cops will be perfectly happy to hang fire. HUGE job curts are in the pike for them, and this gives them a handy oportunity to remind the civil power that police are the power when things get uncivil.
