WDeranged Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 On the subject of New Vegas, I do really hope the devs at Bethesda got a chance to play it, some of the quest design excellence must have rubbed off.
Slowtrain Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 (edited) You didn't happen to upgrade your PC in order to be able to play Oblivion back in the day, did you? That would explain some of your... bitterness. lol. actually, I did. edit: my bethesda bitterness predates that however, all the way back to what happened to the ES series between Daggerfall and Morrowind, though in hindsight MW wasn't too bad. Edited May 11, 2011 by Slowtrain Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.
Lexx Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 My Oblivion bitterness started after I had finished the boss battle. It was just so... bad. Then I realized what the **** I played there for 60 hours (incl. addons). Since then, I never touched it again until Nehrim, which I found much better than Oblivion... Never finished it though, because as stated already, some of the quests are so bad and the performance isn't pretty good either and so on and so on. WDeranged Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 I remember enjoying the ending to Oblivion, going to Gaia Alata and finding the tormented souls of Mankar Cameron's followers, I liked that it was all a con, the ****ty part for me was the final battle with Dagon basically being a cut scene. The Shivering Isles was brilliant for me, probably my favourite Elder Scrolls location alongside Vvardenfell, better writing, deeper quest design and the dungeons were fun. Thinking about it, I really wonder how they're going to handle Alduin, he makes Mehrunes Dagon look like an insect, in fact if you dig around the lore forums you find that he actually made Dagon into what he is, so if Dagon's defeat was a cut scene how are they going to handle a dragon god who literally eats the whole of reality?
HoonDing Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 (edited) Theoretically he could be defeated by a new Dragon Break, removing the Norse aspect of Akatosh like previously his Elven aspect was removed, rendering him "docile", so to speak. I wouldn't even be surprised if the protagonist of Skyrim will ascend and take Alduin's place in the pantheon, similar to how Tiber Septim once ascended. Edited May 11, 2011 by virumor The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.
WDeranged Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 That's the train of thought I'm following, odds are it's going to be another cut scene ending, I hope current day Bethesda are up to the task of writing it, they're actually balls deep in lore with this one.
HoonDing Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 (edited) It all depends on how involved Michael Kirkbride is in development. Edited May 11, 2011 by virumor The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.
WDeranged Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 (edited) A nice Nordy looking structure, reminds me of Rohan or more obviously, the Skaal village on Solstheim A young looking forest, it's nice but I'm hoping we get at least one ancient forest with epic trees. HoonDing Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 Solstheim is a great area, I'm happy that one will be revisited. The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.
WILL THE ALMIGHTY Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 Looks like Oblivion. This. It really doesn't look that great, especially the second picture. "Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"
Orogun01 Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 Looks like Oblivion. Doesn't matter, as soon as the Nexus are done with it its going to look fabulous. Chocolate elves, pretty faces, juggling boobs, I can't wait to stop sleeping so I can convulsively clear dungeons. I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"* *If you can't tell, it's you.
WDeranged Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 I think they look quite decent, there is definitely a whiff of Oblivion and Fallout though, especially the radioactive looking water
Lexx Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 At least Bethesda's rock and mountain models remain in their old style. "only when you no-life you can exist forever, because what does not live cannot die."
WDeranged Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 Bethesda keeping it subtle and low key just up the road from E3.
vault_overseer Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 OMG OMG OMG, THIS GAEM IS LIEK SOOO AAAAWSHUM I'M SOOOO NOT BUYING IT
HoonDing Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 Butthurt detected. The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.
Morgoth Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 Bleh. I have yet to play Oblivion, which of course, I'll never do. Yes, Fallout 3 was my first and maybe last Bethesda game. I'll buy Skyrim 2: New Epic adventures from Obsidian gladly though. Rain makes everything better.
vault_overseer Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 Actually, I am butthurt. Butthurt because I'm being fed same old crap and I'm expected to pour sprinkles on it and eat it up with my own golden spoon. Bethesda really pisses me off with their overhyped marketing.
HoonDing Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 Did they do anything similar for Fallout 3 or New Vegas? The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.
Morgoth Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 It will probably be destroyed once Crytek announces Codename Kingdoms next week, which supposedly is also a first person fantasy melee game utilizing teh awesome CryEngine 3. Rain makes everything better.

The supposedly awesome CryEngine 3 didn't run all that well on consoles with Crysis 2. Granted, this is a completely different game, so maybe they'll nail it.

Actually it runs quite fine and looks stunning on consoles. Either way, pretty sure it will look better than Skyrim, and Beth will have to come up with all sorts of excuses "But graphics ain't that important in RPGs". Rain makes everything better.
Wrath of Dagon Posted May 31, 2011 Posted May 31, 2011 Yeah, I'm sure Codename Kingdoms will be the RPG of the decade. Just the name alone is brilliant! "Moral indignation is a standard strategy for endowing the idiot with dignity." Marshall McLuhan
