RapeLay

Recommended Posts

Aah, japanese can get so touchy when they get critic from foreigners. He even quotes Jesus in the original letter, heh.

Back when this rapelay debacle first surfaced, and the japanese gaming industry considered censuring the games, some adult gaming companies started banning foregin IPs from their websites, and all sorts of messages in the line of "if you don't understand our culture, get lost!" started appearing on the sites. And webforums, of course.

It's all rather funny, really.

Well, the thing is that we can't really judge another culture. After all usually when we discuss how a-moral a culture is we tend to superimpose our own ideals and morals onto that culture. And he is right about crime statistics, they do have MUCH lower instances of crime.

And that makes judging other cultures impossible how? The only problem I can see with this is with retrospective, where such judgements are used as distorted referents to advance political agendas. But with regards to contemporary cultures?

No big deal, at any rate. One culture has trivialised violence, the other sexual deviances. All in good fun.

I wonder how many have downloaded RapeLay since the "BREAKING NEWS"-report at CNN?

"Some men see things as they are and say why?"
"I dream things that never were and say why not?"
- George Bernard Shaw

"Hope in reality is the worst of all evils because it prolongs the torments of man."
- Friedrich Nietzsche

Er... huh?

I think he's confused you with another poster, Babydol, who hit him with that response once. He used to have it in his sig and all.

It was a joke.

This post is not to be enjoyed, discussed, or referenced on company time.

So there are less sexual crimes in Japan and they have sex games.

And there has been less homicides ever since violent games hit the mainstream on the stats

Maybe there is some relation to games and crimes rates.

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*

No. No connection either way. Games do not make someone committ crimes or not commit. That's silly talk even if you are trying to be 'funny'.

No there isn't a connection, but everyone seems to immediately jump to the conclusion that games are the cause of criminal behavior. By their conclusion the reverse is also possible.

Despite being silly it still seems to have some bearing in the way that people judge video games, or whatever the hell RapeLay is.

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*

I know people think that way. They're dumb. I was watching violent shows since i was a baby and while I may be a 'jerk' on the ent I doubt anyone who knows me would call me violent in anyways. This is true for most people I know who have all watched vioent movies and the like. Nor is it anedectoal since its pretty much true.

A violent movie called Clash of the Titans just came out, watched by tons of people, I seriously down the vast majority of people who watched it went out and commited violence.

Violent people are violent no matter what they watch or play. It comes fromm other things - ussually starting at home and how their families were.

But there is a difference between the content, we are not generally wired to kill but we are to seek sex. There is a drive that might be pushed by gaming fantasies and may cause to seek sexual gratification on the real world.

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*

Nah. That's silly. We have a sex drive as you said, people are going to seek sexual gratification sex games or toherwise.

Rape, orgies, and all the other 'sex fantasies' have been occuring in the real world for ages. People who are willing to commit are gonna do so even if they have never played a game like this and those who oppose rape are not gonna all of asudden ebcome rapists if they play the game. That's just plain silly.

Predators often go from fantasies to material to realizing them in real life. Those individuals whom fantasize about rape and seek pornographic material of that niche are one step closer to engaging on the act. So while the product may not be the cause, it may contribute to the final result.

You put orgies and other sexual fantasies as examples but rape is non-consensual.

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*

Maybe...Manhunt?

Even Manhunt isn't a good comparison, as the people you off in the game are psychos out for your blood. A violent game that would be comparable to RapeLay would be one just like Manhunt, except instead of stabbing/choking/etc violent murderers/psychos/etc you went around brutally and realisticly killed children.

I don't know much about Japanese porn/rape games, but I've heard there are plenty of them, yet almost all of the outrage has been aimed at this RapeLay. I think that boils down to the brutal rape, tears and all of a VERY young girl and there just isn't anything to really compare it to as far as violence goes.

From what I've read of the game, I don't know how anyone could play RapeLay and not feel disgusted with themselves. That may be the very point though. o:)

You never heard of dominatrix (or whatever the male evrsion is as well)? It's all about fulfilling 'rape fantasies' and being controllled /dominated. It's not my thing; but apparantly it is for others. I guess that should be banned too since it make those dominated or thsoe who dominate into rapists, right?

"I agree with Dogmeat, the closest comparison would be a game about brutally killing kids. It's just tasteless and disturbing, I'm surprised how many people are defending it."

What's sickening is that some people can't tell the difference between fiction and fact. Rapelay is not real rape. It's a game. It is not real.

But, hey, I guess Anthony Hopkins is a real sick man if he can play a murderous cannibal in a movie, right? Or those actors who play out rape scenes in movies are real sickos. And, those people who get 'entertained' by such stories are gonan become rapists as well.

Tsk, tsk.

P.S. I have never played rapeplay, just read the reviews. Bottom line is if you don't care for it don't play it. Nobody should have the power to tell someone what they can or cannopt do when it dopes not hurt another human being. And, rapelay does not. Period.

What part of non-consensual you did not understand? S&M has rules, put there for the safety and comfort of the participants. Both parties agree on the extent of the play and everything is make believe not actually engaging on rape, just rough sex.

There is still the chance that it could indeed hurt another human being. In most games violence and sex are complementary to the objective; which despite the aforementioned, may not be violent. But in RapeLay the main objective is to rape and turn two women into sex slaves, so sex is the main objective.

I'd say the answer to that question is kind of like the answer to "who's the sucker in this poker game?"*
