Hey

Not sure if many of you guys noticed this new walkthrough GDC video :

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/gdc-10-a...-protocol/63046

Hrmm not sure what to say about it. Will have to watch another time or two, over a beer.

One thing though: regenerating armor? I dunno how I feel about that. As I said long ago I think they are trying to be a bit too much like Mass Effect , in some design elements, instead of going there own way. Regenerating body armor doesn't make too much sense to me, but I guess it could work as a gameplay mechanic, ala many other games. At least there is no auto health regen. That would make the game a no-buy for me.

I'm looking forward to the game, as always... I hope though that the RPG elements are there, and that it is challenging ( I realize for this demo the difficulty has been toned down but still, its a worry of mine.)

The game is going to come out finally eh? That's cool.

I'm interested to hear the stories about what when on with AP...certainly feels like some of the story has not been told. I bet about a year from now interesting tales will pop up, regarding the development of the game.

thx for the link, very nice video.... but man, there's a lot of negative comments at gametrailers, I hate that kind of players who just want eye candy games and bash anything else that doesn't look MW2 or GoW...

Ya those dumb negative comments annoy me too :sorcerer: It's hard to blame developers for spending larger portions of their budgets on graphics over other departments when so much of the gaming masses seem to have graphics as their #1 priority. Oh well.

I think part of the prob is that the game looks much more third person shooter than it does RPG, so the game has to compete in the looks department against other tps games, which are some of the biggest budgets out there.

It not only looks like an FPS, but it also appears to play like one, more or less. So I think comparisons with other FPSes are valid.

Looks polished, looks fun, but way too easy with idiot AI that confirms early suspicions from last year. Assuming this is normal difficulty (or maybe easy), considering the slow response times of the enemies, their poor aim, and the somewhat weird shout system where enemies at high vantage points are more blind and deaf than those on the ground (seriously? What's the point of having guys up on those sentry towers if they never see or hear a thing?) means that it's all too easy to take them out one by one. I'd call what you see in the vid balanced if you didn't have any armour, but it seems to regenerate really really fast. Still, as long as the harder difficulties make you a lot more vulnerable, it should be fun and challenging. Even better if higher difficulties mean more alert enemies and wider alert radius. I'd expect that the base armour regeneration rate can be easily modded, as well.

The flashforward / talk-with-villain stuff looks interesting, great decision I think.

Also, was that my video or was there a lot of skipping lag in the middle portion, i.e. when fighting trucks?

Problem's on your end.

BTW, love it when the guy in the last sentry tower get's hit and misfires completely.

He makes it sound like C&C in AP boils down to reputation checks. Not cool man, not cool. Edited by Oner

Regenerating armor was lame, but it

I think that dev walkthroughs are usually played at super duper easy difficulty settings and hacked so they can show off their skills. I don't think that's the smartest way to promote your game to people that really want to see how it plays but i remember Bethesda's showing of Fallout 3 at E3 and they were pulling Fatmans left and right. Maybe in the real game the AI sucks and the difficulty is childish but i'm pretty sure all their videos are played at super easy. I actually loved that Randy Pitchford got killed when playing Hell's Highway because he tried to play it like Halo. Developer walkthroughs should be played at the ideal diffilculty :aiee:

My guess is that AI is not gonna be terrific (it'll probably be kind of stupid) but that regenerating armor won't make you immortal. For the rest, there's rookie mode :)

By the way, i hope Obsidian does the using-your-old-character better than Bioware. Mass Effect 2 was just weird with all the emails and people thanking you instead of more substancial carryovers.
