Bokishi Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 I hope they don't dumb it down for the PC audience by removing the time limit and adding save anywhere. That would be an upgrade, not a dumb down Current 3DMark
Kaftan Barlast Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 (edited) And whats this obsession with difficulty? Whats wrong with having different modes of varying difficulty, why should you force players to wear themselves out on a game thats too hard for them? ..and the checkpoint system in DR was really annoying at times. I stopped playing the game 1/4 through it because I was too frustrated Edited February 10, 2009 by Kaftan Barlast DISCLAIMER: Do not take what I write seriously unless it is clearly and in no uncertain terms, declared by me to be meant in a serious and non-humoristic manner. Hell Kitty Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 I hope they don't dumb it down for the PC audience by removing the time limit and adding save anywhere. That would be an upgrade, not a dumb down No, it would be a huge dumbing down. It wouldn't just make the game easier it would completely change the nature of it, removing the survival part of survival horror.
Pidesco Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Since when has Dead Rising been about survival or horror? What it's about is killing zombies with lawnmowers and baseball bats. "My hovercraft is full of eels!" - Hungarian touristI am Dan Quayle of the Romans.I want to tattoo a map of the Netherlands on my nether lands.Heja Sverige!!Everyone should cuffawkle more. The wrench is your friend.
Gfted1 Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 1) Whats OTP? 2) Nick and Lyr are brother and sister? Been wondering about that for a while. 3) Now riddle me this, whats with Purkake and samm? Another two with the same avvy and join dates one day apart, 5 years ago. Coincidence? I think not. "I'm your biggest fan, Ill follow you until you love me, Papa"
Llyranor Posted February 10, 2009 Author Posted February 10, 2009 Yes, Nick is my sister. It's through and through a survival horror. You inflict horror upon hundreds upon hundred of innocent zombies, and make sure the other humans don't survive their escort trips. I've had a suspicion for a while that Gfted1 is Pidesco's alt, which he uses when he wants to remove his mod cap and post inappropriate comments. Wouldn't be the first time, anyhow. kirottu Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Yes, Nick is my sister. Zomg! Is she hot? This post is not to be enjoyed, discussed, or referenced on company time.
wesley2 Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Since when has Dead Rising been about survival or horror? What it's about is killing zombies with lawnmowers and baseball bats. Yeah, agreed...it was a silly game that was great to distract people, I didn't think the story or anything else was very well done or engaging. However, it didn't need to be because it was pure fun to find whatever weapons you can to use on the zombies.
Hurlshort Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Yes, Nick is my sister. Zomg! Is she hot? Hot like a fox! And by that I mean she has a lot of back hair and snaggleteeth.
Gfted1 Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Huh? "Inappropriate comments"? "I'm your biggest fan, Ill follow you until you love me, Papa"
Pidesco Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Don't play coy, myself. "My hovercraft is full of eels!" - Hungarian touristI am Dan Quayle of the Romans.I want to tattoo a map of the Netherlands on my nether lands.Heja Sverige!!Everyone should cuffawkle more. The wrench is your friend.

However, it didn't need to be because it was pure fun to find whatever weapons you can to use on the zombies. Playing Dead Rising just to kill zombies is like playing GTA just to drive around running people over. All fine and dandy if you're easily amused but it's gonna get old pretty quick. It's not just a choice between following the story or randomly killing zombies (the human psychopaths make for more interesting enemies anyway), for me the fun lies in attempting to rescue all the survivors, especially doing so while also completing the main missions.
Hurlshort Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 I thought the time limit on Dead Rising was a bit constricting, hopefully they'll ditch that in the sequel.
Llyranor Posted February 10, 2009 Author Posted February 10, 2009 I think the time limit did a good job of creating of sense of urgency. Made you prioritize things; explore, try to save survivors, and ditching survivors to fend off on their own when you're on a deadline and need to rush back to your objective. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
Nick_i_am Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 The time limit wasn't even enforced, you COULD go oblivion style and sniff flowers if you were willing to let people die or miss missions and you'd happily get ending B if you did that. The problem is the RPG ethos of both wanting to save the world AND pick the nose of every passerby you find along the way. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
Slowtrain Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 The problem is the RPG ethos of both wanting to save the world AND pick the nose of every passerby you find along the way. One problem among many to be sure, but still.... Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.
