Really, I've just been a huge fan of Lawrence of Arabia since I first experienced it many years ago. The fact that both films have enjoyed tremendous critical acclaim, and still generate discussion today, shows that each is a masterpiece. I prefer LoA, but I don't begrudge anyone else enjoying CK, most certainly a classic. The wife and I went to seeing Knowing today. The film was truly remarkable. I'm afraid to spoil it, so I will only say that it's refreshing that the creative vision behind the film offered up his story in an intelligent fashion without dumbing down the philosophical message to impart a spiritual one. I did want to groan at a couple of parts, but the film was so well done, as well as so thoroughly disturbing, that I was mostly captivated. DiBoneventura is a terrible producer and should be banned from movies. He was the one trying to fight Peter Cullen playing Optimus Prime in the TF movie. The idea that the glowing red eyed zombies in 28 Days is better than the pasty white skinhead version in Legend is laughable. Mate, were we actually watching the same film? The CGI zombies in Legend were awful. And, considering that Will Smith's cigar-and-grooming budget on Legend was probably bigger than the entire production costs of 28 Days puts your other points into context! I think Smith delivered his usual style of decent, but nothing else acting that really did nothing to me in the movies. 28 Days on the other hand had a very solid cast, playing and even more solid, down-to-earth folks. I realize it's pointless to argue over opinions, but I Am Legend became silly and tedious the moment it changed from a heart-warming survival story of a man and his dog to "lol lets do post-apoc drama rite nao". And I can't understand how the ending did anything for anyone when it laughed on the face of Matheson and even its own fecal avalanche that started with the introduction of the surviving couple. In the book the character becomes the actual stuff of legend, the mythical monsters in the shadows that the new society rightfully fears, but in the movie he prods zombies with technical instruments and slowly goes cabin fever in his solitude. What exactly was there for the woman to tell the other survivors? That he liked Bob Marley and loved dogs? On the zombies, well, I still freak out on the pastor in the church. There's very little actual CGI in the movie and it's still bloody desolate. Like the boy in the diner. kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. Because he thinks TV voice actors aren't the same calibre as hollywood actors so why would you want one when you could get George Clooney. However we cut and dice it, I prefer the film Legend to the film 28 Days. Both films were successful commercially. Legend made a lot more money, but I imagine that has quite a bit to do with the amount of money going into both the production and advertising. I don't know. I watch some films and prefer some to others. When I'd read reviews of 28 Days, mostly here, I thought it would be a transcendant new take on Zombie horror. Instead I found a nice, entertaining film. Some aspects of it were great, such as the insane major and the ending. Some of it fells a bit short for me. None of it was truly bad, as such. Just disappointing. I've queued the sequel already. 28 Weeks Later? Something like that. I'll watch it and, it may be, I'll enjoy it so much I'll regret not seeing it in the theater. That's certainly not the way I felt about 28 Days. Maybe it's all about managing expectations. Of course, one thing about having such high expectations is that, even falling short, I found a lot to enjoy in the film. Not as much as you folks did, and that's probably a good excuse for you to keep trying to convince me that I really enjoyed 28 more than Legend or why a reasonable jury of twelve would undoubtedly agree with you concerning the nature of my insanity. Whatever. Folks around here prefer 28? Fair enough. I didn't. Liked both films. Both had great points. Both had shortcomings. I bought I am Legend after I rented it and regreted that I had not seen it in theaters. Not so for 28 Days Later. I'm going to watch Dark Knight tonight, I think. Starwars Posted March 26, 2009 Share Posted March 26, 2009 Today I re-watched Monty Pythons The Life of Brian for the first time in a very long while, and I loved it. I really think it's easily the best of Pythons movies. I love both The Holy Grail and the Meaning of Life, but whereas I love the sheer insanity present in those films, there is always a patch in the middle of it where the film slows down... The momentum is not there anymore. Life of Brian is still insane, but it works much better as a film on its own as well. It has a good message and the plot seems to have some pacing and coherence to it. The ending shows how wonderful good comedy can be. The scene on the crosses is just so marvellous, and actually quite touching which is such a strange thing to experience since Python humor is often pretty ruthless. Hilarious stuff. Probably the best comedy movie that I know. Incredible movie, the art, the pacing, the music and simplicity of the story. Miyazaki did what Disney hasn't been able to do since Disney himself died; making animated movie for kids about being a kid. It is about the childhood that every child knows and every adult will recognize. "This is a true jem", as Ebert said it was, and i agree. Mostly, I'm interested to see how the Dr. in the book handles the infected. I think a LOT of Americans really loved 28 Days Later. Now that I'm warned about 28 Weeks, I'll probably love it. I'm serious, nothing like managing ones expectations. I'm interested in seeing the latest Liam Neeson film. Taken or something like that. Or I might see Watchmen again. It's like watching a train wreck. You want to hide your eyes, but you keep watching. Maybe I need to see a comedy to get away from the unsettling run of movies I've seen lately. True, there are several wonderful scenes: the bus stop in the rain, Mei meeting Totoro for the first time, the catbus switching signs from "the graveyard", "hospital" and "Mei". Azure79 Posted March 28, 2009 Share Posted March 28, 2009 I am Legend, good book by Matheson. I cry every time I see Will Smith making a movie out of books I've enjoyed. Please stop. I've found myself not going to the movies completely. Too expensive and whatnot. I thought about going to see the Watchmen, but I had read the comic I borrowed from a friend and didn't see the point in it. I think I'll just watch Transformers part 2 this year in the theaters since the idea of seeing the Constructicons forming Devastator and then wreaking devastation on a city sounds highly entertaining. Still no Dinobots though . Until then Netflix it is. Oh I recently watched The Gamers: Dorkness Rising, which I found hilarious. Every constructicon is a different color leading to this big rainbow ape looking thing with a head that encompasses his entire body. Its just bad. Seen: Death of a President - (not really that good, but I they did a pretty good job at making it seem real) Dawn of The Dead - (I like this film - maybe because I get the sense that the director at least tried to make it artistic, even if he failed.) About to see: Stolen Nation - (Never heard about it, but it seemed interesting) Empire of the Sun - (I saw this as kid and always wanted to see it again. Also I discovered that it's Christian Bale who plays the kid) Last King of Scotland - (Heard alot of good about it, but never got around to actually seeing it) Fortune favors the bald.
