Mysteries of Westgate

Recommended Posts

SSI Pools of Radiance was that way. Some times you needed the translating wheel to start up the game. The good old days of the Commodore 64.

Doesn't matter crack or not. Still the Mac and Linux users will not be able to play this mod. Not that I promote the idea of pirating this mod at all, cause I don't. I just wish that it was cross-platform like the mods for NWN. Then all we would have to do is just move the needed files over into the right folders and vola, MoW play time. But nope. The Macs are stuck at 1.12 while MoW needs patch 1.22 because of the DRM in the patch that needs to work with the DRM in MoW.

So another lost sale because they can't seem to understand that the only thing they are protecting is their fear of what if.

Can Mac users play MOW once Mac NWN2 has been patched up, or is MOW simply incompatible? I don't really understand how the latter would be the case if the game itself is compatible...

That's a very good question. I'm not sure if MoW was ever thought to be played on anything else but the PC to be honest. But since the Mac is so bloody far behind, patch wise, that it's possible that even if the Mac were to be patched up, it would probably take another upgrade to get it to work. In other words it would need to be ported over by the same company that ported NWN2 over for the Mac I would think.

But I could be wrong and a simple upgraded patch may be all that is needed.

I can dream I suppose that such a thing could actually happen.

I was ready to snatch MoW up the moment of its release back when it was announced... until Atari decided to set a new precedent for scumbaggery by delaying it for well over a year for DRM. Wont touch it now. Well... unless it comes out on a disk... without the drm.

Pretty much trying to avoid anything published by Atari now. Which can be difficult considering some of the temptations like the new Riddick game.

You buy it for $10, download and install it, and enter the serial number. DRM, no DRM, who knows, who cares?

I do...

So do you guys buy a happy meal and wonder if you'll still be able to eat it in 10 years?

No, but I do buy games and wonder if I will still be able to play them in ten years. In fact, I've got some things that are that old, or older, sitting right here and, guess what, I can still play them. :*

Seriously, the day that I can no longer play my Tex Murphy: Pandora Directive using a DOS simulator will be a sad, sad day.

The analogy to happy meals (do they seriously cost $10 these days!?!?!) does bring up an interesting question of what kind of product a video game is. Are they disposable (a la happy meal) or reusable? I've always thought of them like books--they can sit on my shelf and I can pull them out and replay them anytime. So what if I already know what's going to happen? The fun part is getting there. Imagine if someone tried to restrict you from reading a book more than a certain number of times.

Oh wait...[foresees horrific future where all books are electronic and publishing companies decide on a "reasonable" number of times one can read a book before being obligated to buy another license]

Ok, it's not that bad, but is anyone else getting creepy 1984 Big Brother style vibes?

The difference is that I dont eat games, and i dont play with my hamburgers...

And guess what... Just as an example Fallout 1 is already 11 years old, and when you look in here http://forums.obsidian.net/index.php?showt...5&start=195, you find still many people playing it... Unbelievable isn't it?

Yeah, but what we have to remember is that were just the vocal minority. Whats the old saying, for every roach you see there are 100 you dont see. Thats us, were the roaches. For every poster you see there are 100 that dont post/care. Add up every poster on every Fallout board and what do you have? Maybe 300 active posters? And FO sold MILLIONS of copies. So, at the end of the day, while it appears a large group of us are in agreement the end result is far different.

So in 10 years if you still want to play it you buy it from whatever the equivalent of Steam will be for $1.50 Saying since I might not be able to play it in 10 years so I won't play it at all doesn't make much sense.

This weird "kill kill kill the pirates" wave is getting really strong in European companies who do business with parties outside Eu. Both Atari and Ubisoft (and probably other publishers whom i am forgetting right now) are inserting weird, extremely restrictive and/or extremely intrusive protection into their games.

The funny part is the little fact that these protections don't work. I'm not sure but I don't remember any title that managed to resist being cracked more than 1 week. All these heavy handed protection does is hurting the legimate players/buyers.

I heard there is a nice protection system called steam which manages to balance and minimize its intrusiveness and system usage by offering decent free bits, promotions. It said that it had even gotten rid of most of it's bugs after all these years. Still it doesn't serve cookies :*. Thats why Atari and Yubi must be hating it and it's like

There are few Starforce games which were not cracked so to this day, but even Securom compared to Starforce is like sling compared to catapult...

I am sure there are but when you are unable to play the game it isn't really a consolidation price that pirates can't too. Its like saying "Yes sir we took care of your houses insect infestation problem by pouring radiation to the area and making the whole village inhabitable."
