It doesn't a great great job of maintaining the illusion of a big war going on around you, but that's just judging from a 5-10min demo. The latest one, IIRC, that had it was the 80gig MGS4 bundle. The current 40 and 80 gig PS3s being sold don't have it. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)

I thought only first PS3s had PS2 "chip" or whatever in them and all the rest play PS2 games via software emulation. So all of the PS3s are backwards compatible.
