I was just there a moment ago so I think it is the latter.

Here is the announcement for those who are having troubles.

It is almost too much to get my mind about. But I've just had news that our dear Dungeon Master has passed away. Ernie called this morning, he thought we should let the fans know. He's just sent an email out.

Gary was in his home when he gathered himself up to cross the great divide.

He was a very dear friend of mine. And I will miss him so.

God Speed My Friend.

Steve

Wow, I know he looked like he wasn't in the best of health last I saw pictures of him, but I gotta admit this is pretty surprising.

RIP Gary; my thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

I cannot - yet I must. How do you calculate that? At what point on the graph do "must" and "cannot" meet? Yet I must - but I cannot! ~ Ro-Man

I just can't believe this. How can someone like Gygax die? That would be like Spielberg or someone kicking a bucket

How can it be a no ob build. It has PROVEN effective. I dare you to show your builds and I will tear you apart in an arugment about how these builds will won them.

A little more information:

Dungeons & Dragons Co-Creator Dies at 69

Mar 4, 1:50 PM (ET)

By EMILY FREDRIX

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Gary Gygax, who co-created the fantasy game Dungeons & Dragons and helped start the role-playing phenomenon, died Tuesday morning at his home in Lake Geneva. He was 69.

He had been suffering from health problems for several years, including an abdominal aneurysm, said his wife, Gail Gygax.

Gygax and Dave Arneson developed Dungeons & Dragons in 1974 using medieval characters and mythical creatures. The game known for its oddly shaped dice became a hit, particularly among teenage boys, and eventually was turned into video games, books and movies.

Gygax always enjoyed hearing from the game's legion of devoted fans, many of whom would stop by the family's home in Lake Geneva, about 55 miles southwest of Milwaukee, his wife said. Despite his declining health, he hosted weekly games of Dungeons & Dragons as recently as January, she said.

"It really meant a lot to him to hear from people from over the years about how he helped them become a doctor, a lawyer, a policeman, what he gave them," Gygax said. "He really enjoyed that."

Dungeons & Dragons players create fictional characters and carry out their adventures with the help of complicated rules. The quintessential geek pastime, it spawned a wealth of copycat games and later inspired a whole genre of computer games that's still growing in popularity.

Funeral arrangements are pending. Besides his wife, Gygax is survived by six children.

What killed him?

Did he drop good loot? (Sry, couldnt resist)

I'm pretty sure Gary Gygax himself would laugh at that comment, it's more of a compliment to his legacy than anything mean. He was 69 and had some health issues, so you can probably call it natural causes.

He will be missed, but he'll definitely live on, and his work continues to grow every year. Can't ask for much more than that.

I admit that my only real experience with D&D through the last 10 years, starting with Baldur's Gate has been the video games. They've hooked me though with the best ruleset and settings I've seen in RPGs.

I once read that Gygax was a teacher, and that any student who could beat him in a match of Age of Empires would recieve an A for the semester. Coolest teacher ever.

Damnit. I wanted this joke.

a very-very bad idea to make any joke about any dead person no matter who he was or what he did

Don't speak ill of the dead, eh? Poop that, because something tells me that like myself, Gygax would want people to be happy and laugh when they remember him. None of that "sadness" business! Mourning death? Bah! Celebrate life!

Seriously, R.I.P. Gygax, you magnificent bastard. Quite a few hours of my life have gone to waste thanks to your gaming system! Too bad for us all you made raise dead such a high level spell.
