Gorgon
I thought Deus Ex 2 was awful, mostly engine and gameplay trouble though. Hopefully an experienced studio can do a lot better. Hurlshort
I'm not in the know, but I'm guessing proof of concept is a very early stag in development, meaning this game is at least two years out. Good to hear it's in the pipeline, though. Also interesting that he referenced the original and not the sequel. Sounds like they are aware of the contempt people have for it. Oooh, we have spell check!

Oooh, we have spell check! 2 years? If we're lucky. To be true to the desires of the majority of Deus Ex fans, they'll need to take longer than that, hopefully they do. I liked the sequal though. I'm in a minority on this forum, perhaps alone, but I did enjoy it. But, with a complete different team involved, I'll make a point to avoid hoping too much either way. I really have a hard time believing that such a (character) skill reliant FPS game as the first can get released in the modern market. Whether that's because it's more demanding of developers to make or more complicated for players I won't bother speculating. Slowtrain
I liked the sequal though. I'm in a minority on this forum, perhaps alone, but I did enjoy it. I liked it OK. It wasn't the game Harvey Smith promised through. It failed on 2 different counts: 1) A rigorous and complex biomod system that makes the need for skills totally unneccssary. 2) Choices that really matter. He failed to deliver on both. Still, I enjoyed it enough to play it twice through. Better than most first-person games that come out. Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that. Rhomal
My issue why I didn't buy it is simply for the fact a few design choices turned me off. a. universal ammo b. smaller areas due to keeping it console friendly. c. stripping of the PC stats/skills Admin of World of Darkness Online News News/Community site for the WoD MMORPG http://www.wodonlinenews.net --- Jericho sassed me so I broke into his house and stabbed him to death in his sleep. Meshugger
Meh, i have little interest in a third installment of the Deus Ex series. While the first one is a classic, they did however, severly dumb down the sequel. Morgoth
But not without Eric Brosius. Thief without Brosius is like System Shock without Shodan --> unacceptable. Rain makes everything better.
Musopticon?
They made a Bioware game with Jack Wall, I have no doubt that an in-house Eidos Thief game with Eric Brosius is possible as well. Not to mention, considering how high ratings (like BAFTA etc) the soundwork of Deadly Shadows got, there's bound to be interest for Brosius. Morgoth
The thing is Brosius is still employed at the Guitar Hero makers... so let's just hope he has time/interest to work for Eidos temporarily. Rain makes everything better.
mkreku
The guy who made the most stupid decisions regarding Deus Ex: Invisible War (Harvey Smith) works at Midway now. That's a positive. On the other hand, Warren Spector has his own game studio now (Junction Point Studios) and won't be involved in Deus Ex 3. That's probably a negative. Still, I love the original Deus Ex so much I'm still giddy about this news! Just.. Please, please, please carefully study and analyse what made the first game such a huge success in the minds of fans as well as critics! Don't do a Harvey Smith and dumb everything down until a monkey would be bored with it! Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish! Morgoth
I wonder why they don't name it Deus Ex 2 in the first place. But then people would confuse it with Invisible War 2, and that would be fatally stupid. I hope they stick with the "3" without any stupid subtitle. Rain makes everything better. Aram
The original Deus Ex had a magic to it far beyond a name and a concept. No game designer since has ever quite managed to equal it, and that's not because they haven't tried. If this is a different team running simply on a name, I don't see myself looking forward to this any more than an original game by the same people. Niten_Ryu
Yup, Harvey Smith is credited as Lead Designer in Deus Ex ans iirc both Warren and Harvey did agree most of the changes done in Deus Ex: Invisible War. Then again, that might have been just empty words for fluff inverviews in various magazines or web sites. It could even be that neither of 'em really agreed on design changes but did 'em anyway because some of the play testers ran out of ammo or were scared that they make "wrong" choice. While not on Deus Ex: Invisible War (it's from Bioshock), there's excellent video IGDA Montreal presentation - Saying yes to the player. Morgoth
I can't help but always relate everything "Montreal" with Ubisoft Montreal, which only makes mediocre games at best. Let's just hope the new Eidos studio will stand out of this monstrously lame game machinery, and make DX3 a worthy, creative successor to the original classic. Rain makes everything better. mkreku
The speaker voice in that clip sounded like a parody on how speaker voices normally sound.. but it was dead serious! Horrible! I did like the music, however. It must have been ripped straight from Deus Ex or something. Very fitting. Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish! Pop
I did like the music, however. It must have been ripped straight from Deus Ex or something. Very fitting. You haven't played Deus Ex much, I take it. Sort of kind of unfortunate that Alex Brandon is tied up 'round here. DE3 will suffer greatly in his absence. I got a little chill when the theme kicked in there. If only the video wasn't spoiled, I would've gotten a nice surprise realization. Join me, and we shall make Production Beards a reality!
