Deadly_Nightshade Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 How do you like Hellgate? I've heard that most people, even those with super rigs, are having problems running it. "Geez. It's like we lost some sort of bet and ended up saddled with a bunch of terrible new posters on this forum." -Hurlshot
Morgoth Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Nonsense. It runs as smooth as a baby-butt. Even my old P4 could run it smoothly with all details enabled. The game itself is vastly underrated. Go get it if you like Blizzard-style Action RPGs. Rain makes everything better.
Moatilliatta Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Is it possible to use guns in it and do they feel like guns? I always wondered about that when I was contemplating buying the game and I never actually read into it, it does seem to me that it wouldn't be easy to balance guns vs. swords.
mkreku Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 I tried Hellgate: London on an old Athlon XP 3200 with a Geforce 7800 GS (AGP x8) and 1 GB or 400 MHz memory and it ran smooth at butter. I don't imagine it would run any worse on newer equipment than that, even if you had the disadvantage of running Vista. Pretty cool game, even though it became very repetitive after a while. Much more so than either Diablo or Diablo 2. Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!

Yes, there're plenty of guns. The Marksman class is specialised in that. However, they don't really feel like your typical FPS guns. Mind you, it's still a Hack & slash action RPG, and the first person view is for atmospheric reasons only (well, and the stupid Z-Axis gargyoles). Anyway, my first playthrough was with a Marksman, and while fun, it was also hard later on, and at some spots even ungodly unfair (i.e. the boss in the Tower of London). Now I'm playing with a Blademaster (melee guru in 3rd perspective), and I think it's alot faster, easier, more fun. I haven't tried out the other fancy classes, but I did play an Envoker (Necromancer sort) during the Beta, and playing it felt slow and dragging. Moatilliatta Posted April 7, 2008 Posted April 7, 2008 I love being able to explore in the Gothic games but sometimes they go too far: The worst part is that I alt-tabbed out and alt is the jump button.

Moatilliatta Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 Do you have the graphical capabilities of the game maxed in those screens?
Bokishi Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 (edited) It's maxed out DX9 since DX10 currently consumes way too much vram at 2560x1600 There's hardly any difference between the two modes tho Edited April 12, 2008 by Bokishi Current 3DMark

My eyes aren't what they used to be yet I see things much sharper than they're rendered in that game. The third shot looks good though. Edited April 12, 2008 by Wistrik

Deadly_Nightshade Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 Does it really need the system requirements, or are they higher than they should be? "Geez. It's like we lost some sort of bet and ended up saddled with a bunch of terrible new posters on this forum." -Hurlshot

Pidesco Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 After checking your system in the specs thread, I have to say that unless you require a monstrously large screen resolution you should do fine. I bought the game today, and it runs fine with everything maxed at 1024*768, on my puny PC with a 7600GT and a P4. "My hovercraft is full of eels!" - Hungarian tourist I am Dan Quayle of the Romans. WITHTEETH Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 (edited) I generally am happy with games set at 1024X768 with 4XAA and high detailed textures, Bloom lighting, and no shadows. EDIT: But any stuttering and it ruins it for me. Edited April 13, 2008 by WITHTEETH Always outnumbered, never out gunned! Unreal Tournament 2004 Handle:Enlight_2.0 Myspace Website! My rig
Pidesco Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 I don't know if AA affects performance too much, but your PC should be able to handle that and then some. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that.
