A Diablo strategy game maybe? :shifty:

Now that would be a strange move; yet I might personally like it.

I bet it is The Lost Vikings MMO.

That would be all kinds of awesome.

Actually, screw Starcraft 2...

if it is, it will have to compete with the halo rts, and supreme commander,

in my case screw starcraft, i dont like rts as i dont like to be general.

Dawn of War has basically superseded Starcraft for me.

"For ourselves, we shall not trouble you with specious pretences- either of how we have a right to our empire because we overthrew the Mede, or are now attacking you because of wrong that you have done us- and make a long speech which would not be believed; and in return we hope that you, instead of thinking to influence us by saying that you did not join the Lacedaemonians, although their colonists, or that you have done us no wrong, will aim at what is feasible, holding in view the real sentiments of us both; since you know as well as we do that right, as the world goes, is only in question between equals in power, while the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must."

Folks are just upset because they created a monster MMO. Plus, this is a board that really enjoys deep RPG's. Blizzard rules the Action-RPG world and now the MMORPG world, which are both basically shallow versions of story telling RPG's. Personally, I think they are great for PC gaming as a whole and I loved WoW.

Meh, after seeing a few SC cinematics, I started hating it.

I'll be playing Mass Effect instead, and probably drooling at the graphics.

"Alright, I've been thinking. When life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade - make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager. Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons. Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons. I'm going to to get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!"

Starcraft has a better sense of balance, especially in the light of the last Imperial Guard nerf, but DoW is obviously a spiritual successor in concept. Same kind of fast tactical phase, all races have unique units and completely unique play style as well and the thematic similarities are clear.

Starcraft is still the better game. The Blizzard hate band wagon seems a bit unwarranted if you ask me. Have their developing practices really changed that much during the years?

I never could get into Starcraft. But Command & Conquer and Dawn of War?

I never could get into Starcraft.

In RPG terms, that's like saying you could never get into Fallout. And, how could anybody possibly dislike Starcraft and love Dawn of War, considering the latter is practically a remake of the first with a different skin?

Only way I can imagine anyone making a claim like that is if they've never actually played Dawn of War.

I never really got too much into Starcraft, nor any of the other Blizz RTSes for that matter. WC2 was my first RTS. It was fun enough, but I can't stand many of the genre conventions. I stick to wargames nowadays when I want some emphasis on tactics and strategy.

Dawn of War was a fun endeavor. Can't say it diverged too much from other RTSes, but the setting was pretty nice. Gameplay-wise, I really liked the resource system (capturing points and so on). I was somewhat refreshing. That being, I didn't marry the game or anything, I just prefer it to other RTSes - which I can't stand for long on average.

Says the guy who never 'bothered' with Starcraft.

Of course i played Dawn of War. When people refer to it as the 'true heir' of Starcraft (except for the single player, which was **** and one of the reason i rank it lower then the older game), i think it's implied there's some similarity between the two games, at least in spirit. Not to say it isn't a fine RTS (one of the very best actually), but i'm having an hard time understanding how you can like one without liking the other when they are so similar in nature...

I'm with Tale, DoW plays very differently from Starcraft. You have unit pop caps, strategic points, the quantity of DoW's 7 races over the quality of Starcraft's 3 and many minor differences, units and gameplay factors. Also, DoW does not have any air units.

Says the guy who couldn't "get into" Starcraft. I did bother with it. Vast difference.

They are very different. Big Bottom pretty much lists the main points of why. Plus the squads+reinforcement system.
