aVENGER
What we're doing with Mass Effect is trying to make it about going to an extreme where you accomplish the objective by being brutal at all costs except the objective. Or maybe you take the other approach where you're just as brutal and just as extreme but you're finding a compromise and taking some other value into account? Basically, as long as you are brutal and extreme we don't care whether you are good or evil and neither should you. Click Here to read more. Disclaimer: this is actually a fictional, satirical interview although it was apparently based on several real interviews which Mass Effect project director Casey Hudson has given in the past few months. A lot of his quotes are taken directly from the real interviews though some of them have been twisted to the EXTREME! :D

Volourn
Really sad, and pathetic. I find some ofthe posts and pics that the Codexers have made up funny; but that fake interview just comes off as desperate attention seeking. *yawn* DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250. Slowtrain
weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Notice how I can belittle your beliefs without calling you names. It's a useful skill to have particularly where you aren't allowed to call people names. It's a mistake to get too drawn in/worked up. I mean it's not life or death, it's just two guys posting their thoughts on a message board. If it were personal or face to face all the usual restraints would be in place, and we would never have reached this place in the first place. Try to remember that. Aegeri
I wonder if the game takes place over 24 hours and forces you to torture terrorists, doing the wrong thing, to do the right thing. But yes, this interview is based on some of Biowares previous ones and I think mainly one from IGN where they compared the main character to Jack Bauer. To be perfectly honest, ever since that IGN interview with whoever the PR person from Bioware was, I've just been unable to take Mass Effect seriously anymore. They sunk the entire game for me with the whole Jack Bauer and being extreme crap. Edit: Specifically this part of a recent IGN interview: IGN: So you just spoke about how you want players to feel that they're somebody special. We know that you take the role of Commander Shepard as the main character and I've read that you can create your own character and build him from the ground up. How do you manage to make this game where the two ideas co-exist, where you can create your own character and build your own persona an still fit him into this world and story where he is special? Casey Hudson: Well it's an interesting balance and I think it's a different balance than anyone has ever done before in a role-playing game. I think typically role-playing games in the past have been more about creating a completely empty vessel that you then fill up with whatever choices that you make. And that can be really cool but it also kind of leaves out a little bit of the texture of what it's like to be someone specific or to have a specific spirit to an adventure. So if you think about some of the really great, memorable science fiction stories or even characters, like Captain Kirk or JACK BAUER. So we created the persona of COMMANDER Shepard. And Commander Shepard is an N7 ELITE which is a member of the human military that really is among THE VERY BEST OF THE BEST and he's already PROVEN himself. And you can also, of course, create a female Commander Shepard. But because we give you a certain kind of experience which is that NOTHING IS GOING TO HOLD YOU BACK. You will do WHATEVER IT TAKES to solve your mission, to get through that door, to accomplish your objective. And you will GO TO THE EXTREMES to do that. That's really the essence of the experience of being Commander Shepard. I'm sorry, but I can no longer take the game seriously after this. Edit2: Added a link to the IGN interview, just in case you think the above is also from the codex. Sadly, it is not. Edited February 1, 2007 by Aegeri Boss: You're fired. Oerwinde
Of course, leave to the RPG Codex to make false interviews as a form of ridicule. Yes. Very hilarious. Weird Al has been doing it for years. He used Eminem interview footage to make it seem like he was saying he though Brad Pitt was cute and wanted to date him. Thats funny. Sand
The difference there is that Weird Al does not misrepresent his material, unlike the Codex. Aegeri
The difference there is that Weird Al does not misrepresent his material, unlike the Codex. What did they misrepresent? Sand
The difference is that IGN is a legitimate interview and the Codex is not. The purpose of Codex' lil bit of unhumour is to ridicule something they don't like. That is what they do. If they don't like something they ridicule and badger it like schoolyard bullies. They have done that for years. As I said, the IGN interview sunk the game for me (I thought previews were meant to get you more interested in a game) and I didn't have a thing against the game period (and I really liked both KotoR games as well incidentally). As far as I can see, the 'fake' RPGcodex interview is just mocking the stupidity of the IGN interview I've already linked. Which IMO, is fully justified. Boss: You're fired. Volourn
"What did they misrepresent?" A lot. In fact, the hilarity is that they went to the EXTREME. What's also funny is that ME is a console Action RPG which means the Codex shouldn't - according to their own mantra - be worrying about it. For some reason, however, VD is fixated on it. They misrepresent by twisting facts. Just like any poloitician except unlike politicians; the Codex does it in a retarded way. R00fles! P.S. I thought the Codex forum posts that the article is largely based on were funny; but the article comes across as childish, lame, and simply unfunny. It reeks of desperation and seeking attention much like a 2 year old child would. DWARVES IN PROJECT ETERNITY = VOLOURN HAS PLEDGED $250.
