it's great news but i don't know how Alienverse RPG would work out...

Many npc to interact?

Aliens as enemies through the whole game? :)

WARNING (possible) SPOILER ;)

After 30 hrs

"Oh no, i'm so scarred, another alien...meeeh"

whoah dude another gamei can buy just to kill off the main character in the most painful way imaginable

Strength through Mercy

Head Torturor of the Cult of the Anti-gnome

So its confirmed. ;)

I hope if its an RPG, its a proper role-playing kind. Not Diablo or Oblivion. System Shock isn't truly an RPG either, perhaps something along the lines of BloodLines if its an FPS?

Well then, OMG NEWS.

I'm ambivalent about the theme - it's as good as any if it's done right, and Alien is not too restrictive. It's a much better take than the Mass Effect Star Trek take - I prefer my aliens mysterious, few and totally different, not Looks Like A Random Animal And Just Has Different Social Codes.

This is on the bottom of the page to which Karka linked. Sorry for the smallness.

the Obsidian part seems to have disappeared

Wow... They are fast.

hahahaha! I have it saved for posterity!

This was unexpected. I never would've thought that Obsidian would do an Alien RPG.

Now that I think of it, they mention "next gen systems". I wonder if a PC version is planned. :ermm:

Isn't Vista next gen?

Fans of the series can expect to see it adapted a number of ways, as the companies have confirmed that several Alien games--including a first-person shooter and a role-playing game--are currently in preproduction, with the first game scheduled to be released in 2009. The games will be for currently undisclosed "next-generation gaming systems."

After two rushed products, fortunately this time Obsidian has lots of time to finish the game.

This would be Project Georgia, I think, which would mean PNJ is still nowhere in sight.

Conventionally, "next-gen" implies "consoles".

And I hope Vista will die a horrible death by 2009 (not that it is going to happen though).

Technically, northing's been confirmed yet folks! But still, chances are that it wasn't a typo but a genuine slip of the tongue, or fingers as the case may be.

But one things for sure: We'll actually be seeing a lot more use from this fella--> :ermm:

Actually, it is not that much more time. After all, NWN2 was 2 years in development. Release in 2009 means 2-3 years of development time.

My feelings are mixed. RPG by OE = (w00t), Alien license = (w00t), Alien RPG = *shudder*

I guess it could work, but it could suck too

How can it be a no ob build. It has PROVEN effective. I dare you to show your builds and I will tear you apart in an arugment about how these builds will won them.

They've been working on this game for sometime now. 6 months? May be more. Plus, this time they don't have to focus on toolset, graphics engine and other player tools. (Of course, i assume they are using Unreal3 Engine...)

This could be the very height of awesome. And not only because all this talk aobut Aliens ups the chance of AVP3.

Well, at least we'll know that Aliens won't be the only bugs we'll find.

Ok, what is Gearbox Software doing in all this? They're the team responsible for tactical combat games like Brothers In Arms. Will this be a team-based tactical combat games? Are Gearbox and Obsidian co-developing this? Or are Obsidian using technology licensed from Gearbox? Gearbox are hiring people with Unreal Engine skills right now. Are they supposed to be working on this project or something else?

Gearbox also made the Halo PC port, as well as the Half-Life expansion, Opposing Forces.

I think they also made a James Bond game as well. Nightfire or something.

"After two rushed products"

NWN2 wasn't rushed. It had about 2 and a half years of development and took about as long as BG2 to develop. DFon't make stuff up.

And, while KOTOR2 had a relatively short development time, it also wasn't rushed.

As for an Alien RPG, that should be interesting to see how the rules work...

There's a suspicious sudden activity of devs in this thread.

Indeed, maybe we'll get something concrete soon?
