nafonso Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Hi, I'm doing a Masters' Degree at a University in Portugal which will focus on NPC Social Behavior, and I would like to ask your help to answer a questionnaire. The idea behind my Thesis is to try to improve the Computer RPG experience, that's why I'm asking for your help, because you are the ones that know what should be improved! You can find it on http://freeonlinesurveys.com/rendersurvey....o2arm74s7233913. Thank you for your help, Regards, Afonso
Pop Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 (edited) Hmmm, are you some kind of bot, Alfonso? Or r u for realz? I'll do the survey if not, but... we've got a few bot problems here you see. *edit - that's "4 realz", actually. Edited October 26, 2006 by Pop Join me, and we shall make Production Beards a reality!
Sand Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 He has no smiley so he must be real. Only the bots use the smiley. nafonso Posted October 26, 2006 Author Posted October 26, 2006 I'm for real! ;-) I'm really doing a Masters' Degree. The group that I'm in is Inesc-ID, a AI group at my University (IST - TagusPark). I'm also updating a blog with the progression of the project. You can find it on http://oniwaka.blogspot.com. Thanks for all your help people! Hopefully the project from my Thesis will eventually become a game! Regards, Afonso
Pop Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Alright then. Done and done. Good luck on your thesis. Join me, and we shall make Production Beards a reality!

Colrom Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 (edited) Nafonso I answered your survey. I suggest you enhance it some to increase the range of allowed answers for all the questions. Also make sure you cover game types like RPG, FPS, RTS, 4X, adventure; real time and turn based and hybrid and so on if you are going to ask what people like - and provide for "other" since you will certainly omit some. You may also want to work a thread on the issues on this and perhaps other forums to help. Edited October 26, 2006 by Colrom As dark is the absence of light, so evil is the absence of good. If you would destroy evil, do good. Evil cannot be perfected. Thank God.
nafonso Posted October 26, 2006 Author Posted October 26, 2006 I suggest you to change the 'thank you' list (in blog) with adding Obsidian and Digital Reality to it ...oh, nearly forgot: Stormregion too That was yesterday, before I had this account created. I'll thank all of you in the next post! ;-) Nafonso I answered your survey. I suggest you enhance it some to increase the range of allowed answers for all the questions. It was approved by my coordinator and since I've got already alot of answers it would create a breach between them.
Hurlshort Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 I took it...received an error when I submitted it, so I hope it went through.
Pidesco Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 (edited) I'm getting an Internal Server Error when submitting my survey. Kaftan Barlast Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 What in earth do you mean by "pro-activeness" in regards to NPCs? Its like asking if I prefer my NPCs to act unilaterally. DISCLAIMER: Do not take what I write seriously unless it is clearly and in no uncertain terms, declared by me to be meant in a serious and non-humoristic manner. If there is no clear indication, asume the post is written in jest. This notification is meant very seriously and its purpouse is to avoid misunderstandings and the consequences thereof. Furthermore; I can not be held accountable for anything I write on these forums since the idea of taking serious responsability for my unserious actions, is an oxymoron in itself. Sand Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 I think it means that the NPCs act on their own accord. Strike up conversations with other NPCs or walk up to you if they have something to say. That sort of thing. mkreku Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 I've submitted my answers now. And I made sure to answer with annoyingly wordy and unnecessary lengthy replies whenever I was given the chance ) Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!

nafonso Posted October 26, 2006 Author Posted October 26, 2006 What in earth do you mean by "pro-activeness" in regards to NPCs? Its like asking if I prefer my NPCs to act unilaterally. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes, that's exactly it. For example, NPCs don't just stand around, they decide to go somewhere and do something. And also, it's not to make them always go back and forth repetitively, they should "think for themselves".
nafonso Posted October 26, 2006 Author Posted October 26, 2006 I'm getting an Internal Server Error when submitting my survey. Yesterday a problem happened with the Blogger server. After the questionnaire I have to decide where to send the people that submited it. So I decided to submit them to the blog of the project (there are no adds there, not trying to make money! ;-). But yesterday the blogger server had some problem and was giving a 500 code error (Internal Server Error). So this means that you submited the survey ok, and the problem was loading the blog page. Edit: Sou portugu
Pidesco Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 I can't help you with that, sorry. astr0creep Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Submitted. I particularly enjoyed the question asking which RPGs I've played among 6 choices. http://entertainmentandbeyond.blogspot.com/
Darth Drabek Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Done. Yeah, I agree with Astr0 that you'll get a lot of extra games listed in that "other" section. baby, take off your beret everyone's a critic and most people are DJs
nafonso Posted October 26, 2006 Author Posted October 26, 2006 Done. Yeah, I agree with Astr0 that you'll get a lot of extra games listed in that "other" section. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I understand, but I only made those explicitly available because they're the ones that I'm going to evaluate myself, and use as a comparison. Sorry if you needed to write alot!
Pidesco Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 You could've picked better ones. :D "My hovercraft is full of eels!" - Hungarian touristI am Dan Quayle of the Romans.I want to tattoo a map of the Netherlands on my nether lands.Heja Sverige!!Everyone should cuffawkle more. The wrench is your friend.
