Large-scale fights usually suck, especially in RT. They tend to get too clunky and messy. I prefer a hard, tactical fight with fewer opponents, especially in an RPG.

Looking at the official Gameplay trailer, I wasn't too excited about the combat either. I hope this doesn't turn out as another clickfest a'la Kotor.

We'll just have to hope this ain't a usual game.

It's DnD, hence there's not really much free space for own gameplay experiments. I have no doubt Obsidian will create a great plot/characters, but a PnP ruleset turned into a CRPG can too often create obstacles that tone down the fun.

I remember whan Bio tried something similar with HotU - large-scale battle --> SuXX0rs I say.

Are you kidding? Casting fireballs at the enemies never felt so good. It almost moved me enough to shed a tear. Getting that much impact out of a lvl3 spell ain't easy to pull off.

Unfortunately, still not impressive.

Note to OE;

Trailers are meant to make people want to PLAY the game... not making people want to look for other games <_<

If it's the recent official clip, then

I hate to be the ne to do this but... yeah, old.  Joe Bulock fraps this about 2-3 months ago.

The graphics are pretty representative, but since that was recorded the animation code was all replaced, which is the big thing that jumped out at me when I watched it. "Oh man, I remember when guys wouldn't play their dodge animation when attacked. Those were the days."

Some of the models have also gone through a polish pass among other things.

So yeah, that's our game, minus a lot of polish.

Also, skeletons no longer bleed, they shoot out shards of bone and dust.

Wraiths DO still bleed, but I'm fixing that tomorrow morning.

It certainly isn't Obsidian making these descisions. I remember Joe frapping those various fights, just like Patrick said, but yeah, it was a few months ago.

That video footage is before the new animation system landed in the code tree, before the new personal space landed, before the big art polish phase landed, and finally minus a lot of bug fixes that have gone in.

People fortunate to go to Gencon have seen a lot of those issues resolved already.

I don't understand why all the old stuff gets released. Like we get new screenshots and they turn out to be like 4 months old and that kinda thing. I don't get it, its not hard to hit printscreen. Why would atari want to have screens that aren't representative of the game? Video clips are a little harder, as you have to cut them together and add the music, but if its just a simple one to show off gameplay, it shouldn't take more than a couple hours to put together.

I guess as long as the blood was solid (powder form) it would be consistent ... magic blood? Like the San Gennaro (Blood Miracle) of St. Januarius in Naples? :)

It sounds brilliant, and I can't see why anyone would complain about the graphics! This is likely to be a standard for many years ... perhaps it will even be possible to upgrade the graphics engine at a later date and still use the same scripts, too ...

FIXED

"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."
