astr0creep Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 My second choice for moving away from stupid Canada would be Norway. I heard it was one if not the best run country in the world. Everything works there. Anyone has any thoughts on Norway? Besides the cold of course. http://entertainmentandbeyond.blogspot.com/
Lucius Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 (edited) I was born there, and from what I remember there's always a lot of snow. (if you like that). They have lots of oil money, and they're fiercely nationalistic at times.(has something to do with them first being under 400 years of Danish rule, then 100 of Swedish rule until they finally got independence in 1905). I like my nation better (big surprise), not nearly as much snow, pretty wealthy as well, and according to studies we're supposed to be one of the happiest nations in the world. What we don't have is the nice scenery they have in Norway, lots of mountains and frozen stuff. I don't know about Norway, but if their immigration laws are anything like ours, they'll not be letting many people in. Edited March 21, 2006 by Lucius DENMARK! It appears that I have not yet found a sig to replace the one about me not being banned... interesting.
metadigital Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 A friend of mine just emmigrated to Norway. Sounds like the country is very farm-oriented: where the "farms" are fishing villages. Low density residential structure. Very pretty (if you like the fractal geometry of fjords, and who doesn't?) and LOTS of snow. Very friendly people, big drinkers (but alcohol is so expensive thee that people bring their own and take it back with them when they attend parties). astr0creep Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 (edited) Vikings ftw! Or hobbits? Hmm... sorry for the slight derailment. I hate Canada because we(in Quebec) are overtaxed, jobless and what little industries we have left are closing shop and moving to China. I don't want to raise my child here because it has been to hard for me. People are too much in a hurry for any little thing and everyone seems to think they are God's gift to the Universe. I'm generally a very relaxed person and I feel that my kind simply doesn't have a place here in North America anymore. Edited March 21, 2006 by astr0creep http://entertainmentandbeyond.blogspot.com/

Walsingham Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Great Britain I hate us for our conceits. Our obsessions with fashion, with sofas, with obscure and pointless pursuits. I hate us for our timidity and double standards in international affairs. I hate us for our delusional and self-congratulatory attitudes on charity. Most of all I hate the way we destroy our culture, heritage, and advantages in the name of democracy, but really out of reverse snobbery and petty jealousy, while at the same time preserving our fat cats and slums. I also hate us for being ashamed of the entirety of our national history. But cathartic as this is, I'm more or less OK with the place. :D "It wasn't lies. It was just... bull****"." -Elwood Blues tarna's dead; processing... complete. Disappointed by Universe. RIP Hades/Sand/etc. Here's hoping your next alt has a harp.
Lucius Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Astro, if you hate taxes, you're most definitely gonna hate Denmark, Sweden or Norway. These are socialist paradise model systems, remember that... mkreku Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Also, porn is not very popular in Norway, a little fact that will turn 99% of the board members against Norway. I remember when a swedish tv channel used to send porn, some lucky (?) norwegians could watch that channel on their satellite dishes, and Norway actually demanded that the swedish company put a stop to this. I have no idea how the story ended, but the channel is still broadcasting lots and lots of porn every night.. Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!
Lucius Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Right right, I heard the other day that they only recently made some changes which we (in DK at least) made some 40 years ago. Maedhros Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 (edited) It never snows where I live. (To the south-west). Dyan Posted March 23, 2006 Posted March 23, 2006 England. I hate our country for giving up her empire and her pride. I hate the fact that we've elected a spineless moron for a prime minister and the fact that all our parties are as useless as the last. I hate the fact we destroy our national identity and standards; that we give up our culture for 'political correctness'; I hate the current generation and the degeneration of society - I hate the fact we bow to the will of the US and the EU. But most of all; I hate the fact that as a nation, aside from cricket and football, we have absolutely no pride in our country at all. I hate the fact that we bash her constantly and really don't give a damn about it. I hate the fact that we're no longer 'British'/'English' and really, our country deserves everything she has coming to her. Bring back the empire, I say! . Just not the arrogance - just how to 'win' at cricket again... HK47: Commentary: It is not possible to destroy the master. It is suggested that you run while my blasters warm, meatbags. Bastila to Revan: You are easily the vainest, most arrogant man I have ever met! Canderous to Bastila: Insults? These are socialist paradise model systems, remember that... The ancestors of Vikings are very taxed indeed. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't mind taxes. I mind taxes that are used to secure VERY comfortable retirements for useless senators or injected in election/propaganda campaigns instead of fixing the roads, the systems of education and healthcare, maintaining the military(thats what taxes were invented for), etc. No media here ever admits that our politicians are corrupted. They say it in a way that we need to read between the lines but they never mention the big "C" word. I think they should, it's the media's job and it's another thing I hate about Canada. The hypocrisy. http://entertainmentandbeyond.blogspot.com/

11XHooah Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 America: Drinking age is 21. If I'm old enough to fight for my country, I'm old enough to drink damnit! :D War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse.
