Ive tried to get into it so many times but it has failed because Im a graphics whore, but this time Ive done it. I havent got that far but Im enjoying myself. I have a few issues

-What are rubber boots good for and how do I use them? How do I get henchmen to use stuff like that?

-Ive found that being a whore is great for finances but is there any harmful effects?

-How do you cure yourself of radiation exposure?

Rubber boots protect you from the green goo you will find on the floor in some places. Stepping over it without protection causes injury and mild radiation poisoning too, IIRC. They are used automatically if you have them in your inventory.

To have henchmen use them, just give the boots to them.

-Ive found that being a whore is great for finances but is there any harmful effects?

None directly related to "being a whore", but being a fluffer will result in severe poisoning.

-How do you cure yourself of radiation exposure?

You need a drug called "RadAway".

Im actually having alot of trouble getting into the first fallout. I've heard all the praise, I've heard all the hype, but uh, well, I don't know what the problem is. But thats not the problem. But what I do know is that the answering of this question might just make it easier for me to enjoy this game. My question is about the back pack. I know Ihave put items in it, but I can't figure out how to open the damned thing. If someone can help me out, I shall be a happy man. If this backpack increases my carrying capacity, I will be double happy

Backpacks don't increase your carrying capacity. They are only useful for inventory management and

acts of terrorism

. :p

In order to open it just right-click (or was it left-click? ;)) and keep the button pressed until a menu pops up, then simply choose the "use" option.

Skin geckos. I'm sure someone will fill you in on where you can get the skill.

Pickpocket people, especially in Klamath's trapper town.

Find Modoc(town) and rob the store.

Edit: You rpg-freaks, yes you, now would be a good time to enter the thread.

I always think people are bit odd playing ancient games.. But then I look at my GBA :D

To make money get your barter nice and high and then sell off everything you come across except ammo, you can sell that off right at the end or when you know what weapons you will take with you for the duration.

A neat little trick is to explore the south of the map locate the BOS and then do what they tell you. Requires a bit of discipline though so you dont make things too easy.

I have to agree with Volourn.  Bioware is pretty much dead now.  Deals like this kills development studios.

This thread has me interested in starting up another game. I haven't played FO for about a year, but since I'm currently between games with none of the new ones really interesting me, maybe it's a good time.

Cool, thanks 213374U! Yea, you press right click to bring up the binoculars, then hold down left click. I'm only in Junktown, and am not very familiar with the fallout game engine, and stlye, n'all that, so I'm afraid I have no advice to offer Karftan.

If you are really in need of money/equipment, you can always murder a merchant and get his stuff. Yes, Fallout is the only RPG in which killing merchants actually gives you access to their wares. Beware, though, that killing a merchant may turn everyone in town hostile, depending on where you are.

Try looking for your stuff in the place where you got nookie.

I had a similar problem, partly because the graphics aren't so easy on the eye, but I also had trouble getting into it because I'm no longer used to having to think when I play a new RPG, to search hard or decide for myself what I should be doing. Modern games have made me soft: I recently replayed Ultima 6 and there's no way I would have the patience to figure all that out for the first time now.

Still, you've inspired me to try again, maybe this weekend I'll give it a shot.

I usually just get annoyed with the various merchants and blast them  It's far cheaper :D

Or you just steal from the hookers after sleeping with them, right Darque? 8)

Yes, the game does have a certain degree of realism :D

But your stuff was dropped on the floor where you were standing when your new father in law showed up with his shotgun and made wedding preparations.

Thats cool. Fallout1&2 are classic. Imho. Not to be missed by fans of good

roleplaying.

Its been eight years now since Fallout was released. An epoch in regards to gaming technology.

Grin and bear the aging engine, its worth it.

Some Tips:

If you are not so much into violence. Eg: Diplomat/Thief/Whore. Travel the wasteland.

You usually encounter raiders ganging up on slavers or caravans.

Now, stay in the background and let them blast each other. As the bodycount rises, loot the corpses.

If you're good enough finish the remaining scumbags off.

Stay out of the line of fire and watch out for stray bullets!

Having the 'Awareness' or 'Cautious' Perk helps here. As it modifies starting distance in Random Encounters.

Tagging 'Lockpick' and 'Steal' makes criminal life easier. There are literally ****loads of chests/lockers or safes to rob throughout the wastes.

Not to mention making people drunk and robbing them blind. Heh.

Keep your eyes and ears open, talk to people and read notice boards.

There is always somebody who wants someone killed, or robbed.

Lotsa jobs pay decent.

Eg: I made some money smuggling booze and drugs into certain cities.

Eg: Join the Slavers and buy and sell people like cattle.

Eg: Go to lawless towns and put down the law.

Also if you tag "Gambling" and have high 'Luck' (10) you can make some moolah on the crap tables. Many gamblers and casinos around.

Having a set of loaded dice helps.

Try not to get caught though.

If you pack a punch and can handle a beating. There's also the boxing ring. OR make a name for yourself using martial arts.

>_<

Question:. Have you played Fallout1 yet?

No Ive only got 2. The Fallout 1&2+tactics box was so atrociously expensive for a game I didnt know if I would even bear playing so I got an old copy from a friends brothers roomates nephew thingie.

Now, is it just me or is BIS responsible for every single good crpg for the last 10 years? Either directly or through employees that have gone to other companies?

If you're looking for some quick cash, try making your way down to NCR. If you can make it there without getting yourself killed (shouldnt' be too hard, although it's probably about as far away a settlement as there is from Klamath, so expect some encounters along the way), there's a weapons merchant set up outside the city proper. He's got 3 (or maybe 4) guards dressed in green Combat Armour. These guys are remarkably easy to pickpocket, for some reason (I think I had 6 in dex, average luck, and put no skill points into pickpocket, or steal, or whatever it's called), and I was always able to rob those guys blind. You might have to reload a couple times, but they're pretty good. Careful, though; if they catch you stealing from them, you're going to die. Horribly.

The upshot of the affair is that they're all carrying Bozars. Those little weapons (aside from being one of the best in the game) are worth thousands.

Yeah, I mean two of the best examples of CRPGs, imho, were both created by BIS.

Fallout 2

PlaneScape:Torment

Don't forget Arcanum - Of Steamworks and Magic Obscura - created by ex-BIS, aka Troika. ... RIP.

BIS were also credited as the producers on the Baldurs'Gate series.

I hope Obsidian will create the same kinda magic.

I have now gone from prostitution to pickpocketing and Im currently thinking about murder with robbery. But can you really get away with gunning down a store owner or will that seriously mess things up? I was thinking about hitting that drugdealer Tubbs and the fence Flick in the den.

The only problem derived from killing vendors is that you won't ever be able to do business with him/her (duh!). But once you start stockpiling large amounts of heavy weapons, this may become more of an issue than you thought at first, since merchants are the only regular source of money (and rare ammo) in the wasteland. Usually people won't give a damn if you ice the local gunrunner, but there are exceptions.

Killing Tubby and that children exploiter Flick is almost mandatory in any FO2 game... just make sure you don't hit any of the children when murdering Flick.

And um, you could try becoming a slaver, but I don't recommend it. It will condition your game and the benefits aren't that great.
