March 12Mar 12 Crimson Desert's Steam store page now says Denuvo included.Which doesn't bother me personally. But it always feels a bit sneaky (or something) when a game adds such after it's already been available for pre-order for a bit etc. vs. just doing it/saying they will from the get-go, even if those that do mind can simply cancel their pre-orders.I'm still going to be waiting for those initial reviews re: gameplay/mechanics. Like, I'd like to know more about this settlement feature etc. I have high interest/hopes - the no chr-xp-levels aspect also interests me - but it's not quite a "must buy" for me yet. Almost, but not quite. Still gaming with my 9900k/2080ti/32 ram. One day I suppose a game may inspire me to finally upgrade. Maybe.
March 12Mar 12 Gameplay videos mostly turned me off the game. Mishmash of God of War, Dragon's Dogma, Monster Hunter and... Just Cause? The ending of the words is ALMSIVI.

For one thing, it seems to be mashing together many styles and loops. It could feel too unfocused/messy, even re: discovery/exploration (my thing). Still gaming with my 9900k/2080ti/32 ram. Oh right, to not scare away get more people to pre-order.It's also been long enough that I'm now less motivated anyway - still interested, just maybe I'll wait for a sale. Friday at 08:42 PM4 days I noticed DS2 has a Win10 version requirement. 1909+I remember a game some while back that had me upgrade Win10 once (vs. my purchase version). My System Information says ---Version - 10.0.19045 Build 19045. No ##H2 included in the byline. Not surprising, it was a long while ago (could've been 3-4 years ago, might have been 4++ years, sorry I can't recall).Does 1909+ include Build 19045? Is my 19045 actually 1909/19H2 or 22H2 but mine's an early/not updated version which is why that byline doesn't mention any ##H2? Sunday at 02:04 PM3 days So, Obsidian apparently has four projects currently underway. Wrapping up Grounded 2 and Avowed are surely among them. But what are the others? Does anyone here have any info on what's next from Obsidian? It's been way too long since they've released a game that had direct appeal for me, but I still remain very hopeful.

Yesterday at 12:12 AM1 day I have decided that these two need new pairs of glasses. I tried viewing this video both on my tablet and on the OLED.Ok, sometimes the close-up faces might look a bit better, in an overdone or Ai-uncanny valley fashion, depending on one's artistic POV, but the area/scene examples are awful, even taking into consideration they seem to be filming a screen vs. direct video captures. Most scenes just look like blown out brightness/contrast/color reshade-like filters, with too much forward light (like portrait lighting) and losing possible directional shadow. Not to mention, it adds wrinkles/details to faces, in one case alters upper lip shape of a chr (or at least the lipstick to a point it feels like it) etc. At least I assume it's an option/one doesn't have to use it.EDIT: also, the demo they got to look at was running on two 5090's. But don't worry, it'll scale downward in the end. >.> Edited yesterday at 12:22 AM1 day by LadyCrimson Still gaming with my 9900k/2080ti/32 ram. Denuvo works orders of magnitude better than any other DRM that came before it, and most games protected by it do not get cracked or at least do not get meaningfully cracked - i.e., maybe one version of the game, usually one close to release, might get cracked, but then nothing after that: it's just too difficult and too time-consuming for cracking groups to really handle. However...while Denuvo used to sell perpetual licenses, they are now a real proper money-gouging "service" (and this is one of the only times I'll ever celebrate that) in that publishers must pay quite a hefty sum to continue to protect their games with Denuvo on an ongoing basis, and this means that even very big games eventually lose Denuvo - at the very least, the singleplayer ones that aren't earning the cash to continue to warrant it.Way I see it, this means games get protected for 6-24 months, which strongly encourages the people who really want to play them to actually buy them (which is good for the prospects of bigger singleplayer-only titles in particular, which have always been at higher risk of being pirated en masse relative to multiplayer titles), but it also means publishers will eventually push clean builds through Steam et al. somewhere down the road...which is good for those of us who either don't want anything to do with (or straight up can't play with) Denuvo, OR for those of us who would be waiting to buy something at a lower price point anyways. I think this is a fair compromise, and a much better and sustainable situation than those nasty perpetual licenses Denuvo was selling previously. Now that they've pretty reliably proven their DRM works and many publishers use it and will want to continue to do so, it makes sense they'd change their pricing model to take advantage of that, and the rest of us can luckily benefit from it. Edited 12 hours ago12 hr by Bartimaeus Quote Against stupidity we have no defense. Neither protests nor force can touch it. Reasoning is of no use. Facts that contradict personal prejudices can simply be disbelieved - indeed, the fool can counter by criticizing them, and if they are undeniable, they can just be pushed aside as trivial exceptions. So the fool, as distinct from the scoundrel, is completely self-satisfied. In fact, they can easily become dangerous, as it does not take much to make them aggressive. For that reason, greater caution is called for than with a malicious one. Never again will we try to persuade the stupid person with reasons, for it is senseless and dangerous.

The worst offender though is that school kid from Harry Potter, who looks 40+ after the touch of DLSS5. For now, it might be offered as an option which can be turned off, but look at what happened with raytraycing. There are already some games built around it from grounds up, and you cannot turn it off. Which in the end, makes these games inaccessible to some people, which are not able to afford last gen GPUs... And this slop needs two of them to run.Note: as one guy on Ars Technica noted, what you see in the video, is the best of the best screens produced by DLSS, which have been handpicked by the marketing gurus of Nvidia, and they still look like a cheap Instagram filter, which fails to keep the tone of the scene as creative director intended 🤷♂️ Sent from my Stone Tablet, using Chisel-a-Talk 2000BC.
