Finished Reacher s3. Last episode probably was the best one in s3. All in all was better than s2, but still not as good as s1. At this point I can't even tell anymore what exactly made s1 so good, though.

We're about half way through The Residence on Netflix. I'm a sucker for a mystery even though the Shondaland logo at the beginning put me off, because I've not liked any of those shows before, this one has grown on me.

So I finally gave in and started watching Star Trek: Strange new Worlds and... it's surprisingly not garbage so far. Kind of a miracle?

There's two ways Strange New Worlds can go for someone: either you're like me and end up hating every character except Pike, that by default makes the episodes bad, and you start nitpicking, or you don't, and can enjoy the series for what it probably is, the best of the nuTrek shows. Personally, I'd rather be forced to watch A Night in Sickbay on a loop than subjecting myself to any more nuTrek TV or film dreck.

No mind to think. No will to break. No voice to cry suffering.

I just finished it with the wife as well. It was a lot of fun. I'm excited for the Neagley spin-off series.

The Pitt, episode 13 - well that was a corker. To me not surprising, in terms of where it all went, but the actors pull it all off. Noah Wylie especially.

Also, YT threw this in my algorithm and it made me laugh. I was never a huge Friends watcher, just sometimes after work in syndication, that sort of thing, but I remember that bit. Apparently current disc versions of the show now sold (and rerun cut versions) cut it out because of the song. they lost the rights to use it when copyright ownership changed hands or something (maybe to Disney?), so out it went. Shame. At least one can see it on YT.

I've been binge watching horror series on AMC+, including Darryl Dixon, Mayfair Witches, NOS4A2, and Dead City. What do you know, it makes the world feel almost normal again. At least it cleanses the political palate somewhat. Maybe I'll try The Terror next?

Dead City was pretty good, imo, but the Darryl Dixon show felt stupid. Managed to watch 2 episodes before I gave up on that.

The Terror was really good. Never watched that 2nd season tho.

The Terror S1 is excellent. The cast(ing) is absolute god tier. I'm not sure if the more, um, stereotypical book's author elements worked as well on the screen as on the page, but that was a fairly minor complaint.

(Dead City had the problem that everything after the Knock Knock scene in ep2 was a let down since it reminded you Negan didn't have to be mopey- and it followed all the old and by this point exceptionally tired Walking Dead tropes. Probably not as much as the Rick/ Michonne series, but still, opportunity lost to do something actually different. OTOH, that Knock Knock scene is absolute cinema, and New York was much improved from last time I visited.

Personally I preferred the Darryl Dixon series though it too was more than a little tropey and not as interesting as it should have been, except for the scenery. Also quite hard to suspend disbelief at the Parisians' willingness to speak English)

I was the opposite; Dead City didn't draw me in to the characters or the story at all. DD had better character development.

I, too, cannot recommend The Terror S1 enough (never watched S2, heard bad things). The cast is something else, but also the story, the slow burn tension, the cinematography, the soundtrack  - all components work very well together.

P.S.: Terror's cast reminded me of Chernobyl which also works exceptionally well as horror, episode one in particular is one the best horror masterpieces I've ever had a pleasure to be chilled to the  bones from.

I  am also watching AMC series at the moment

The Terror s1 is excellent and s2 is good but not as good as s1. And they busy with s3

I am enjoying Mayfair Witches and I started on Interview with a Vampire

I would highly recommend this series if you want a good Victorian era drama, its not a horror but if you want to see hardcore life of  a whaling ship in the 19th Century this is a must. The characters really make this series especially Colin Farrell

Sounds interesting. Yes I'm a fan of historical drama, including the Aubrey-Maturin series by Patrick O'Brien. (If you ever want to kill a year reading books, that's a good series to tackle. 😉)

Trust me on this you wont be disappointed, find a way to watch North Water if you dont have normal access to it

Its absolutely gripping and captures the harsh reality of that era and its very historically accurate around language and how the characters are  portrayed.  Apart from the main narrative,  which is very dark, the protagonist  Jack O'Connell has a side story as a British soldier who fought in India that is a big part of the events of the main story

Its one of those series you can easily binge watch once you start

I'd say The North Water is a horror series, just not a supernatural one. Not as much so as The Terror for sure though.

Took me a while to work out who Colin Farrell was playing, basically unrecognisable from his early self.

One of the requirements for his role was " put on weight "

" Drax’s sheer presence on the page demanded a startling physical transformation from Farrell. “Colin reminds me of Bluto from Popeye,” Graham observes accurately. “A colossus, a monster of a man.” Farrell, all brawn and heft, explains: “I ate a lot and lifted some heavy weights. I looked at Victorian boxers and dockers, trying to get the belly and the muscle. It was not done under the supervision of medical professionals at all and was really ill advised.”
