Hawke64 Posted June 22 Posted June 22 (edited) Arcadia Fallen There were occasionally unavoidably unwise options and somewhat odd, though well-meaning, social commentary. The game was rather nice overall. Some story paths do not offer choices. This part of the main quest always felt off - why does the PC have to save the locals who clearly want to be left alone (technically, exploited by another local who was digging magical fossil fuels)? I strongly suspect that the mages were the stand-in for immigrants and/or LGBTQ+ persons (including the conversion therapy subplot), which is not unusual, but does not quite work when the story needs the PC motivated, instead of saying "Lol, good riddance" and riding into the subset with the party. Adding a likeable NPC or two who are neither party members nor wizards could have helped. There are options to choose how the PC feels about things and they are clearly communicated. But no option to lie to the person in power who threatening you. The PC is unavoidably honest. The florist mage is very nice and trying to integrate. One should always use password managers and memorable, but not guessable, passwords for them. The alchemist should have thrown acid at the attackers or at least a smoke bomb, but there was no option to do so, only to run or to fight. To be fair, the world being destroyed can threaten one's research. Ironically, he was right. I was honest with a child and the child disapproved. But I got an achievement for it. That particular quest lacked any tough moral choices, though. And the PC lacked the perception to find the McGuffin before the quest. The alchemy mini-game. The challenges are on the right. It is rather fun. It gets a bit spoilery from here and onwards. Spoiler Well, I had hoped that he would die in the process, thus, solving another issue. 2 chapters later, he managed to kill himself without much assistance from the party. It did not help that the locals had it coming. Seems to be only one additional costume and it's a flower crown. Technically accurate. Arcadia Fallen II (Demo) The game did not trust the players to be completionists and befriend all possible NPC. Disappointing. The scene was slightly animated (the carriage was moving), so I did not notice the painting in the background being so stylistically different. Edited June 22 by Hawke64 added the screenshot from the sequel. 2

Hawke64 Posted June 30 Posted June 30 (edited) Flynn: Son of Crimson https://i.imgur.com/kBHDeno.png Spoiler https://i.imgur.com/DpjgNTN.png Arcadia Fallen For some reason, the dialogue log occasionally shows incorrect options. It is mostly funny and I would not have noticed it playing normally. https://i.imgur.com/WXcGT2y.png https://i.imgur.com/25H7G9d.png Finished the side quest about the forest restoration. I think these are all the options for the final "battle". I had one less on the first playthrough. Not sure what are the conditions for the 2nd one to be available. Hawke64 Posted July 7 Posted July 7 (edited) En Guarde! The game looks very pretty and sounds very campy. Sephonie I spent about 15 minutes reassigning the controls and the other settings. The default FOV, which seems to be still present in the cut-scenes, was ridiculously high. Hellpoint This was happening rarely, but more often than I would like. Defeated the boss but died from a projectile. And my untimely demise spawned a green NPC invader with my equipment and slightly lower stats (source: I looked at the save file. The thing is there as a "ghost"). For some reason, it took several tries to get the Imgur links to be shown as images. Probably, should report as a bug. Edited July 7 by Hawke64 2 1
LadyCrimson Posted July 7 Posted July 7 ...at last, a city that might be big enough. ...unfortunately I don't like the way the RWG generator works anymore - well, for stupid mega cities anyway. It's still "ok" for normal maping. But even there they come out a lot more ... generic ... then in past versions. The illusion of the random is disappearing. Just simlar splat patterns and repeating/repetitious city tiles. 1 1 “Things are as they are. Hawke64 Posted July 13 Posted July 13 The Outer Worlds Unfortunately, no unique dialogue options so far. Cookie Cutter Well, it was gory. Well, it got more gory. None of the screenshots seems to require a spoiler tag, as the gore is not exactly realistic. And this is the sidekick. I am generally puzzled why this was chosen. The MC is chosen one. The first boss. It was one of the situation where parrying insta-kill made sense - the boss was reasonably sturdy otherwise. I had to rebind the Menu Controls first, because S or D were used there and kept resetting the bindings. Zoom In and Zoom Out are impossible to rebind. Sephonie The first boss. I think, it gave a traversal ability. And at this point I uninstalled and refunded. Somehow, seeing a burnt mutilated corpse described in detail in a chill puzzle platformer about environmentalism was unpleasant. Spoiler 1
Hawke64 Posted July 20 Posted July 20 (edited) En Garde! Cookie Cutter A boss. The final boss, I assume. Getting the ball to the socket was slightly challenging. Not Ornstein and Smaugh, but close enough. Gore and spoilers. Spoiler I struggled to see the MC here during combat. Still, I am quite happy about the absence of the contact damage. Wrong texture. A main boss and some gore. Spoiler Softlocked - activating the pink thing required energy, which I did not have, while getting back was not possible either due the elevated surface. The platforming section which I discovered to be optional after spending about an hour to complete it. Mail Time The character creator was rather nice and minimalistic. LadyCrimson Posted July 23 Posted July 23 My new NMS pet - TulipHead. It was simply spawning all over on one of my home bases now. I haven't explored much/seen any of the other new exotic fauna. On the 55" OLED TV, this is way too white-bright/blown out. The visual upgrades are mostly nice/good, but bright white noon sun/clear skies/water on some planets were ugh. Turning TV settings down a bit more (I already have such pretty low, since dark room) helped tho. 2 “Things are as they are. Hawke64 Posted July 25 Posted July 25 Mail Time Can't say that I find substance abuse jokes particularly funny, but I have collected all mushroom hats. The end-game indication is very clear. Spoiler This is one of the few bugs I have encountered. Cookie Cutter Defeated Puanani. Firstly, the late-game NPCs seem to lack portraits, secondly, I do not get the humour. And the icons bugged out. The miniature versions of the previously defeated bosses are featured as regular enemies throughout the final area. Also, the larger versions of regular enemies. Spoiler I am not a fan of Undertale (after 30 minutes, I decided that enduring the poorly made controls for 15 hours would be a waste of my time), but it does not seem funny. The insta-killing spikes became unavoidable. The game did not pause when I trapped in the dialogue, so the guard on the left continued hitting. There are random terminals with lore. Final boss and ending. Spoiler The developers. On one hand, the MC's objective, to find the scientist, was achieved, though the scientist died, and, apparently, was reborn as a robot. On the other, the said robot is elsewhere and the MC is not aware about her existence. Additionally, the world-saving part, while having some hooks mid-game, is not finished and would have required as much playtime, thus, story, level, and enemy design, as the existing game. Pumpkin Jack The game is surreal in the same way as the older platformers. 1

LadyCrimson Posted July 31 Posted July 31 (edited) At last, I might be able to carry enough "stuff." **just kidding. I do modify backpack size (the money/gold line is where I normally have it, default is 3 rows less) but outside of "godmode" you could not fill that many slots and still be able to move, even w/maxed bonuses, heh. 1.0 made the general center X center cursor huge tho, and I've been trying to figure out how to make it smaller. It's the one that shows up even if your "hands" are empty, just a giant grey X. I can make text used in UI's smaller, make the UI generally smaller, alter pieces of the UI (like health bars, toolbars) change columns and rows to silly levels, make that center inventory/chr/crafting/storage window-area the size of a dot if I felt like it (you have to make the center bit smaller to have such a tall rows inventory) and there's ways to remove the ranged weapon aim-down-sights crosshairs etc, but I can't figure out how to make that stupid X change. There's also this giant white circle icon that shows up when repairing/upgrading blocks. Maybe they're an actual image. Still, must be a way to scale it somehow.... Hawke64 Posted August 5 Posted August 5 Pumpkin Jack Quite a few of objectives were "Find N of X". The battle ended at the same time I died. The cut-scene still played. An easter egg, I assume. The most irritating mini-game. The final boss. The Outer Worlds Edgewater. Spoiler It was somehow uncomfortable being unable to explain the reasoning in the first set of choices. But relatable, I suppose. I gave them the town, though. The Roseway area has a few quests where the NPC tell the directions somewhat clearly. In this case, there were no road to the storage facility, but it technically was to the left from the old lab when heading out through the south gate. 2
Hawke64 Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Soulstice I used Discord to share the images, so they might not last. The MCs. Spoiler The main bosses. The MC going berserk. Looks very cool. 1
Serrano Posted August 18 Posted August 18 Company of Heroes is still looking and playing really good for a game released in 2006. I cannot believe it's been that long, I feel incredibly old. 1 1
