Surprisingly, I'd like people to be able to choose where they want to live, regardless of where they were born. Imagine that,

Yes we all support legal  and voluntary immigration but that's not what the immigration crisis is about  in most countries like the EU, US or SA

People are forced to immigrate due to failed leadership or conflict caused by failure of leadership, people arent choosing to leave for most illegal immigration. So why dont we focus on the reason they leaving which is where regime change comes into this crisis?

A communist state can not be allowed to succeed at any cost, as it sets a bad precedent. No matter how well (or not) run it is, it has to fail and if necessary pushed out the fourth floor window, to ensure it doesn't succeed. Otherwise the axiom "communist states always fail" doesn't apply anymore. Remember how you felt when you realized Santa wasn't real?

Maybe that'll change in the next decade, the US will be bored and realize it needs amphibious warfare training for China, so will invade 😛

Yes the US just have to afghanistan/iraq harder in their foreign policy, so that they can magically fix the mass immigration crisis. It's foolproof,

But Cubas not Communist, its socialist?

And why you getting mad about  failed ideologies, we know why Communism failed. Its not a Western conspiracy theory, it doesnt work and doesnt end inequality or change the majority of peoples lives for the better. Denying people basic freedoms like  the right to vote and not allowing freedom of speech is not a good thing and doesnt create a sustainable society

I think it's a combination of sunk costs and resentment. It doesn't make much sense and hasn't worked since before the posers here were born, but that applies to numerous policies of the US.

Im not sure, but it sounds like something he would do.

What happened is Obama reached out and wanted to normalize relations with Cuba but he didnt ask for concessions around Cuba giving its citizens normal rights like the right to vote for opposition parties in a free and fair way

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_political_parties_in_Cuba

But then because nothing changed Trump basically  reversed Obama's policies and Biden continued the US isolation and sanctions

Obama meant well but his initiatives failed because the Cuban leadership  dont want to make any real Democratic changes. So Trump was right to end Obama's policies, you dont reward one party states who repress and control their citizens

am knowing this is all wrapped up in legal jargon, but am curiously shocked. we didn't believe cannon would so overt show bias for trump after the smackdown she received from the 11th circuit court o' appeals. boy were Gromnir wrong. now admitted the main issue o' the doj being able to investigate and hold onto classified, secret and top secret documents is beyond her reach, but am hard pressed to recall a federal judge so obvious showing bias for a plaintiff in a civil action.

cannon granted trump a sought for delay as well as allowing trump to functional tell judge dearie, the special master, to go screw himself on all o' the judge' requests thus far.

...

again, we don't have any legal explanation for this ruling (same as her previous effort) so our only practical explanation involves political bias where judge cannon recognizes she literal cannot rule against trump interests if she ever wishes for a future gop appointment to either ag position or appellate bench. no democrat administration were ever gonna pick her for anything anyways, so she needs the good will o' gop leadership if she wishes to ascend politically, but this is so not the way it is s'posed to work and have never seen such blatant preferential treatment from a fed judge, particular following the chastisement she already suffered at the hands o' a unanimous 11th circuit.

this is genuine unchartered territory for us.

hic sunt dracones.

even six months ago Gromnir woulda' waved off the possibility o' an overt biased district judge angling for a scotus appointment, but it is a brave new world. admitted the more likely scenario for judge cannon is that she takes a high paying fox news gig, but am getting tired of being wrong 'bout what is implausible... and keep in mind Gromnir is the guy constant chastising folks for pretending as if trump couldn't or wouldn't do the previously unimaginable.

am recognizing how there is always gonna be a marjorie taylor greene or mark meadows... or worse. even so, the only positive we saw from the post 2020 election meltdown were that while traditions and norms meant nothing to elected officials and ordinary americans, federal judges were uniform and lock-step opposed to overt efforts to overthrow democracy, with the possible and noteworthy exception o' clarence thomas.

regardless, we warned people time and time again that trump would set the republic on fire if he thought it were to his advantage, or if he believed he could get away with doing so while exacting vengeance 'pon those he deemed disloyal. we berated the naivety o' those who saw january 6 as some kinda proof american democracy had an would always stand firm and resolute.

Lula looks like he is way ahead in the polls, I hope he wins because that will be what the the majority of the Brazilian people want and I think he will do a better job than Bolsonaro especially with all the corruption we seeing in Brazil at the moment

I realize there was corruption with Lula when he was president but I have been concerned with the direction that Bolsonaro has been taking Brazil. And then we need to accept  the  final results of the election either way, lets not see a repeat of what happened in the US with some Trump supporters claiming the election was stolen. The will of the people needs to be respected in all free and fair elections

I just hope we dont see the corruption we witnessed under Lula ( the first  time around ) and Rousseff which is always the same. Socialists like them claim they " want to end inequality " but they more concerned with enriching themselves and staying in power

We do have a saying here:

Give a cake to the socialists*, and there'll be a part missing, the rest goes to the people. Give it to conservatives, and the entire cake will be gone and only crumbs left over. Give it  to (extreme) right-wing demagogues, and even the box goes missing.

*Means our social democratic party, not socialists in the sense most of you people take it.

And a joke:

Ron De Santis, an American and a Mexican are sitting at a table. They're brought ten cookies. De Santis eats nine, then points to the Mexican and yells: "Careful, the Mexican wants your cookie!"

Polls in Brazil are always wrong. Dilma was supposed to win for senator in 2018. She ended up in the third position and was not elected (the first two were elected). In 2014 the difference for president ended up being much smaller than what the polls said. It was a surprise. And there were other cases too. By now it should be expected, but who wants to think about Bolsonaro having more votes than what the polls show?

I bet the difference will be smaller than 14 points, very likely less than 10 points. The article below talks about higher abstention rates for Lula. Maybe poorer people have less motivation to go vote and most of them vote for Lula. I also have the impression that many Brazilians don't make up their minds until a few days before the election (or maybe even until the election day) which would not be accounted for by the polls. And there are also people who are ashamed to reveal that they are voting for a candidate. These will be more common among Bolsonaro's voters.

Whee, that reminds me, we'll also have a presidential election next Sunday. That'll be amusing, but only mildly. I'm going to cast my lot in with the guy from the Beer Party, because there are no real alternatives (well, there's a Nazi with a decidedly strange name for one*, a gay Nazi, a lawyer Nazi and some other joke candidates to pick from too). If it comes to a second round, which seems rather unlikely at the moment, I'll go with the sitting president, so he can serve his second time, or potentially more likely, cost us a funeral with full honors (currently 78, heavy smoker and the term is six years).

Oh, right, the reason, well... our current Mr. President disqualified himself after saying that it might be time to observe what's happening on the energy markets. Observe, mind you. Not do anything about it. In late September. No, you dillweed, the time to observe was last year, and to act - well, it was high noon in February.

*Mr. Rosenkranz, dunno, is that just me showing some everyday racism or is it weird that someone with a name like Rosenkranz is part of a party that grew out of NSDAP leftovers?
