Do you guys have any examples, in the last 10 years, of where Microsoft has bought a gaming studio and its got worse? For example since they acquired Bethesda things seem fine and I dont see any problems with any Bethesda anticipated games

Microsoft nowadays respects the independence of gaming companies they purchase unless the company is running at a loss in which case they will intervene to fix things

So I dont get all these negativity about this development, its much worse on Codex with people really upset and venting. So you guys are more reasonable with your concerns

Obsidian. With their purchase, there is no more isometric RPGs planned. That's worse for the game industry as a whole, because Obsidian was one of the very few companies, who could still offer this kind of content 😢

Civilization, in fact, grows more and more maudlin and hysterical; especially under democracy it tends to degenerate into a mere combat of crazes; the whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, most of them imaginary. - H.L. Yes, Mamie are you sure that Obsidian wont be making anymore isometric RPG? Is this an official statement, a rumor or a guess based on games they currently developing that arent isometric RPG?

Well, all indices says to me, that it will not be PoE3. And believe me, my biggest gaming wish at the moment is, that my intuition is wrong about this one...

Well of course when there's finally some momentum up to get rid of Bobby Kotick as CEO he goes and sells the company to Microsoft with no doubt a solid chunk of cash going to him above and beyond the value of his shares. Looking forward to Obsidian's Call of Duty RPG.

Guess at some point they're going to run into regulatory problems with buying up companies though, especially in the EU. Actiblizz may be on a pretty obvious downslope, but it's still got as big chunk of the market.

Microsoft paid $68 billion for Activision so yes I think Kotick will be okay

I am an optimist when it comes to Microsoft acquisitions, but in past Microsoft has not been good in managing their studios. So far so good, but no title so far has been fully done under Microsoft's umbrella, so we will see how will things be going forward. As far as we know, Microsoft strategy is to buy studios who make good stuff, not interfere and let them continue making good stuff for them. We will see if they will live up to that promise, if it will work, and if the future Microsoft strategy won't change.

That said, they offered this content as a last ditch nostalgia fueled pitch and were financially succesful with it in one release out of three. Considering team being burned out on PoEs, and PoE2 not making money, I would expect Obsidian to move to something else, Microsoft acquisition or not. If anything, Microsoft deal gives me hope for PoE3, if the team at Obsidian will ever feel like doing another one. XBOX Game pass is a perfect place for smaller projects which might not necessary sell on their own.

EDIT: Holy crap. That AcBliz purchase includes CoD. No more CoD for PS. Unless they permit a GamePass on PS? Is that Microsoft end game? To strongarm GamePass wherever possible?

Well, even though PoE2 apparently under-performed, I wish this will not stop them to make part 3 in isometric view as well :( I have enjoyed the games and the setting :(

I kind of think that the fire has burned out for those kind of games in Obs, which is fair enough. Let them do something they are passionate about.

I enjoyed it too. My hope is that they return to it down the road. It will probably be a smaller project overall. The tough part is we need Avowed to be successful to keep the IP viable, but if it is too successful, they will probably never go back to isometric. That's what happened to Warcraft.

I forget why is isometric some sort of superior perspective ?

It's not, but it allows the environment to be drawn instead of modeled, which in my opinion looks much better.

Do you have any examples of games where the player can successfully manage a party of 5 or more in first person or over the shoulder?

Not much off the top of my head, although that is sort of a narrow specification, no ?   But is just funny to read that moving away from isometric will be "bad".

It's not, it is just different from other games, I am really tired from the open world stuff like DA:I or Skyrim... So games like PoEs and PF are really nice to play once in a while...

No one is saying it is bad to do and play something different... Though moving completely away from such type of games is bad... I enjoy these type of games, and I would miss them again, if they would disappear again, like they did after IWD2... 🤷‍♂️

According to steam, I've spent about the same amount of time playing The Witcher 3 as I have Deadfire. TW3's camera would be "bad" for Deadfire and Deadfire's camera for TW3 would be...TW1.

Anyway, the point is that some people like party based RPGs and they (we) would be sad if we didn't get to do that anymore
