teknoman2 Posted September 2, 2021 Posted September 2, 2021 (edited) the news site is Greek so you won't find it if you search the title in English i didn't generalize about the media, i simply stated one example of how they end up spreading misinformation even if unwillingly. way too many people make an assumption based on an article's title without reading it and if the title is misleading it could start a huge wave of misinformation. I've already heard people referring to that article by only having read the title and thinking that AZ doesn't trust their own vaccine. one of them even said that he will postpone his vaccination to wait for a free slot for another vaccine. all because of a clickbait article name... that he didn't even click on here's a very well written summary of why many people refuse the vaccine https://www.tabletmag.com/sections/news/articles/vaccines-konstantin-kisin who's right and who's wrong only time will tell. but there's plenty of reason to not trust and very little, if any, to trust anything unless you see it with your own eyes. I tend to agree that many media houses will frame things based on their own biases and views even if they, for example, dont specifically say " we support BLM protests even when they are violent but we dont acknowledge the violence and blame the police " But if you take CNN they also raise valid issues and raise important issues so I feel they do more good than bad And also what is unusual in the US is the prevalence of " opinion pieces " where you have media houses, like FOX and MSNBC, that often report using opinion journalism and not " normal " journalism based on facts and not being biased both intentionally and unintentionally But I have definitely noticed what you have observed at times and I have raised this on this forum and other places. So in example we have months of violent protests in Portland and generally CNN doesnt focus on the violence and criminality of some the protestors but will focus on the police response and the deployment of Federal security forces as draconian https://www.oregonlive.com/politics/2020/09/100-days-of-black-lives-matter-protests-in-portland-timeline-and-photos-trace-the-arc-of-events.html Edited September 8, 2021 by BruceVC "Abashed the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is and saw Virtue in her shape how lovely: and pined his loss” John Milton "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” - George Bernard Shaw "What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. A medium is not media, to prove that media does something you need to prove that all the mediums do something. Also you make false statements about those protest which CNN is reffing as there were no deaths in said protest. Also even with questionable caption, CNN did show live footage from protest showing burning cars and they mentioned looting that occurred. So they actually reported everything that happened in protest. Meaning that it is questionable if there was actually any misinformation in that example you provided, it mostly show that person who made info graphic that day has questionable view what peaceful means

rjshae Posted September 12, 2021 Posted September 12, 2021 Potential COVID-19 treatment: Effective, cheap, available Quote In their as yet unpublished findings, Mills and colleagues evaluated the drug in 3,238 Brazilian patients with COVID-19 symptoms who were at risk of progressing to severe disease. Patients were randomly given fluvoxamine 100 mg twice daily for 10 days or placebo. The primary outcomes was emergency room observation for more than 6 hours or hospitalization up to 28 days after randomization; the secondary outcomes were viral clearance at day 7, the time to hospitalization, death, and adverse reactions. Of the included patients, 739 received fluvoxamine, 733 placebo, and 1,766 other treatments including hydroxychloroquine, lopivinar/ritovinar, metformin, ivermectin, doxazosin, and interferon lambda. The investigator reported that of those receiving fluvoxamine, the risk of emergency room observation for over 6 hours or hospital admission was lower compared with placebo, i.e., 77 of 739 compared with 108 of 733, respectively. No significant adverse events were seen compared with placebo on the viral clearance at day 7, mortality, time to death, number of days on ventilation, or other secondary outcomes. It's curious that an anti-depressant would look promising, but apparently it also has an anti-inflammatory effect. COVID-19 Treatment Guidelines Quote In a murine sepsis model, fluvoxamine was found to bind to the sigma-1 receptor in immune cells, resulting in reduced production of inflammatory cytokines. In an in vitro study of human endothelial cells and macrophages, fluvoxamine reduced the expression of inflammatory genes. Further studies are needed to establish whether the anti-inflammatory effects of fluvoxamine observed in nonclinical studies also occur in humans beings and are clinically relevant in the setting of COVID-19. rjshae Posted September 13, 2021 Posted September 13, 2021 Long COVID: an estrogen-associated autoimmune disease? Quote What are the factors responsible for this syndrome? Organ damage caused by an excessive inflammatory response activated by the virus, but also an autoimmune reaction “unmasked” by the virus itself, perhaps due to molecular mimicry with some components of our body, could be responsible for the symptoms of Long COVID. The autoimmune hypothesis could justify the higher incidence of this syndrome in women. In fact, the immune response for both genetic and hormonal factors is stronger in women than in men and this represents a double-edged sword: the outcome of acute COVID-19 is more severe in men but autoimmune reactions are more frequent in women. Hence, the study of the appearance of autoantibodies in patient serum and the characterization of the specificity of these autoantibodies could be an important goal to begin to identify personalized and specific treatments also based on the sex of patients affected by Long COVID. If true, this doesn't seem like a good outcome. 1 "It has just been discovered that research causes cancer in rats."
